It's not that unhealthy. She just threw a fight, that's really all it is in terms of unhealthiness. Think about a boxer who spends all his time training and sparring and during his amateur career he doesn't lose unless his opponent is better than him, then when he gets to the professional level his coach suddenly starts throwing him in the ring with bum-fighters to pack the boxers fight count. When the boxer finds out he's been fighting bums, he feels like shit and wants to go through a real fight again.

Mollymauk wasn't a genius, but while others perceived him as dumb, the narrow field of knowledge he had was completely outside of Jester's expertise.

It's not *that* unhealthy. As long as she doesn't keep doing it anyway. If she has the choice between walking around with an unresolved feeling that she deserves to be punished, and choosing a punishment for herself, and at least feeling in some tiny way that the scales are just a bit closer to even, then I think it's more disturbing than it is unhealthy. It's the feelings that drove her to it that are unhealthy really.

​@@maggieh3587 Yeah. Maybe I phrased that wrong. It was the *belief* that drove her feelings that drove the actions that were unhealthy. "I deserve to be punished." But also, my belief is that the ideas that "feelings will exist one way or the other" and "feelings aren't unhealthy" aren't *technically* true, but just things that you should subscribe to because they're beliefs that are therapeutic. They help you to deal with your mind more effectively, because focusing on your feelings can blind you to the underlying issues that drive them. The way I see it, if feelings were never unhealthy, and aren't things we should try to control in some way, then what is the goal of therapy? Also the way I see it, from a therapy standpoint, is that Yasha might not be equipped to challenge the belief that she needs to be punished, at least not directly, not yet. But maybe the idea that she has received some punishment can alleviate it a bit and let her begin to move on.

Analysing Yasha's fight: most of her suffering in her past has come from moments of not being in control, so she wanted to fight without raging while in control. I'm guessing she also wanted to feel the pain that she normally doesn't feel while raging (also to understand the pain she has caused and hope to find some escape in it). Losing while feeling this pain was wonderful because it was a huge release, but I think it also showed her that she can't be powerful and do what she does with the Mighty Nein without tapping into the barbarian side of her nature. This is why Caleb shared his understanding of what happened after the fight; he himself isn't as powerful unless he taps into the same power and spells (fire specifically) that he used to hurt the people he loved.

That entire Jester/Beau scene was great all around. Marisha talked on a recent(ish) Talks about how good Laura is at acting/RPing and how great it is to work opposite her, and you can see it in that scene; she throws so many things at Marisha including that "basically a god" line (so Marisha can emphatically deny it while wearing the Keyfish shirt), while in character working on Jester's insecurities with being a non-healing cleric, her daddy issues and her grief for Molly, and while out of character knowing that Beau has a crush on Jester. Laura is so good at this game.

Reading between the lines of Yasha's fight, she never had the intention of winning from the moment she walked into the building. The team just didn't notice because she was still pretty much acting like the Yasha they knew before Obaan took her. Short sentences, phrases, passive agreements of "Yeah, okay." She just wanted to feel something again, and pain was always her first choice before, never peace or solace, even around Molly. And every word she says to Kal in the fight is calculated and most are not aimed at Kal if you listen. Yasha is aiming most of the words at herself. "You are fucking weak" she sees herself as weak for allowing Obaan to take her over. Yasha's unhealthy recovery started when she walked into that building, not at the start of the fight itself.

And I think it's so beautiful to see, too, because it's so contrasting. His patron as a warlock and his pact are both combat oriented. @@jarman9031 a lot of times people who have PTSD do stuff like that either to "punish"" themselves (which im guessing is what yasha is doing because she feels so guilty about stuff) or to just feel something and honestly yasha prob has some at least slight lasting trauma from all the oban shit. another example is if youve seen the legend of korra, she does the same kind of thing when shes dealing with her truma.

I love how Ashley's play of the cage match basically just broke the game. Matt was trying to figure out how the heck to play it and basically was starting to try to invent ways to make her not lose. Fascinating

Invent ways to make her not lose? Who, make Yasha not lose? Or make Kal, the NPC, not lose? As path of the berserker barbarian, she literally has a class ability "Mindless Rage", immune to fear. It seemed more like Matt wanted to play more into the RP thing Ashley was doing with Yasha, like maybe having her back off for a round before coming in for more attacks, but then realized according to the rules he shouldn't have her do that. I didn't think it wasn't about who was going to win or lose, the dwarf wasn't going to quit, just feel weird about it.

Clerics have a lot of powers that can really mess with people. Imagine the last thing you see is a cleric casting blindness on you, as you run panicking from the fight a voice in your head whispers "behind you". You freeze in fear as you feel your strength slipping away from you and as you go to scream there is no sound that leaves you and then there is nothing... You were left blind weak and paranoid but alive, an example.

I loved this episode, there were so many brilliant RP moments and just straight up hillarious interactions. Besides the big, obvious parts (Caleb and Astrid, Beau and Jester, and Yasha’s fight), I loved: - the “gag me with a chopstick” line in Sam’s ad, and the fact that Sam proudly laughed at it as the only one - Taliesin looking straight at the camera and nodding when Beau suggest’s that Molly shot with spread shots for his ‘truths’ as to be sure a few of them would be right - Taliesin’s amazing comedic timing with the flute - Marisha’s intenseness when asking about the origins of the regulation on faith in the Empire, Matt frantically going though notes to answer, and the answer itself - Matt’s terrified expression throughout most of the Yasha fight.
