You should take the time to completely think it through. It's an expensive investment and meant to last forever. I like how you both make a board then combine them, best of both. I'm doing my bathroom later this year, need to remove the tub and install a walk-in-shower. I will have to replace the floor, looking at small hexagon tiles with a pattern inset. Close to what you've found for pattern, so good to see your design ideas. TY
