The original contractor did shoddy low quality work and she asked him to fix it before she completed payment, he demanded payment while she was at work and she wanted to see that he had actually fixed it before she completed payment. He didn't want to wait so he immediately did this instead. That, or he was sure she'd see he didn't actually fix anything and knew she would refuse to pay him in the end so jumped the gun.

Search for the full story before you judge. The contractor refuse to show the receipt of the material had been ordered (which she already paid for), and she asked the job to be inspected before final payment. What he destroyed is UNFINISHED job. This contractor is a crook that why he ran when asked questions by the reporter.

Also how do you know the contract they signed or the agreement she had? Maybe she agreed to pay it in installments, or by period, or by progress. We dont know. On the other hand, I know the tile contractor that did the work in the video. I would not hesitate to recommend him!! Honest, wonderful work, and truthful. You cannot ask for more.

He did such a bad job and the pictures make that absolutely clear (not sure why they didn't include them in this video - they really should have but you can find them if you google this story). She already paid him $3,000 and had noticed various problems with the work (the tiles were unevenly placed and crooked, there was excess grout, some tiles were already cracked, and the edges and corners of tiles were sharp and pointy) - the guy continued to work, but didn't address any of those issues, didn't actually finish the job which included installing the shower and then demanded payment in full saying he'd done everything she asked for but wouldn't allow her to actually check before he got paid. When she said she was on her way to inspect the work he'd done before paying him, he beat her to it and smashed everything with a sledgehammer to try and destroy the evidence that he hadn't actually done the job he had been hired to do.

That was her roommate who doesn't own that house that could only beg them to stop. He knew the female owner of the home was at work and he knew that she wanted to see all the corrections and repairs that he claimed he made to the shower. They texted back and forth and he wanted payment before she could get home from work to see the corrections/repairs he said he did. Because he had major issues he did that needed to be fixed/repaired to that shower remodel job he did. She wanted to see the finished job before she paid the final payment. So he tricks the roommate into letting him and a woman into the home by saying he was there just to pickup the rest of his tools. He's carrying a sledgehammer and a crowbar. The crappy shower remodel job he did was broken, cracked tiles, badly misaligned tiles, tiles covered in grout, messy grout lines, tiles missing so much grout that she would have had severe leaks in that shower. The shower seat also had so many misaligned tiles missing so much grout missing that you could see inside to the hollow area of the seat. This is why she was contacted by contractors all around the world that wanted to fix her bathroom. This is why they wanted to do it for free because they felt this contractor made all contractors look bad with the crappy work he did and the fact he destroyed her bathroom and a connecting wall trying to force payment without her even being home to inspect the finished job. He also didn't get a permit when he remodeled her bathroom which was later discovered.

I’ve dealt with people not paying and we started to take it apart. Not destroy it like he did but in a more civil way. I totally think he was in his right. If someone says other wise they have never had to work in renovations or construction.

Stories like these enable horrible customers like her to think they can not pay for work done. There's always two sides to every story. $3000 is only maybe half or a third of what she was supposed to pay. As a contractor myself, I've never had an issue like this, yet would consider doing the same. I always tell people to check references and give daily updates of my work to address any issues. When I'm done, I expect to get paid in full.

this story is wishy washy i feel like it’s missing parts, if she didn’t pay then i mean he can take his work away, not saying that’s the best course of action, but for her not to pay a person for their work then for her to get it done again free of charge is weird. Im going to say this was probably on the owner's fault. She didnt like how he remodel it. She probably didnt communicated on what she exactly wanted. Always make sure both party knows and understand what the final finish on the project will look like.

It's her property, her rules. When you're asked to leave a home, you leave irrespective of what services you have rendered. Take them to civil court for non-payment if necessary, but if you stay and vandalize their home, that's trespassing and criminal destruction.

This guy actually did a terrible job and she had already paid him over 3k. When she asked him to fix it before paying him more he became upset and did this. She sued and won and he was charged. A bunch of contractors came together and fixed her bathroom.
