This is, in my opinion, the best scene in any of the Batman movies ever. Purely because it gives us an insight of how close he and Alfred are and because it personalized a hero who is usually scene as cold and morbid. I absolutely love everything about it and it's simplistic beauty.
@danielappleton15310 жыл бұрын
Although he wouldn't put it that way, Alfred is the father - figure that the murder of his parents took from Wayne. The only quibble I EVER, ever had with Burton's Batman was making Jack Napier the murderer of Bruce Wayne's parents. A departure from canon.

You also have to give it to the set piece and its symbolism. The long table, large dining room, really cold and unpersonal, then the smaller kitchen where it feels cosy and sincere. All of that, portraying layers of Bruce Wayne's mind. The facade and the heart.
@hkr00656 жыл бұрын
I started warming up to this movie more as an adult. I liked it as a kid, but the Wayne stuff bored me. As an adult, I can appreciate the visual symbolism much more clearly now. I like how much of an enigma Keaton's Wayne is. I think the contrast betwen this nebbish normal guy and his extravagant wealth attracted Vicki to him. It made her almost want to 'figure' him out on a primal level. I like how the movie allows us to infer a lot of things rather than explain everhthing to us. I love the Nolan films, but the beauty of Batman 89 (and Returns) is that it allows the viewer to come up with their own conclusions about who Wayne is.

Keaton does his double role brilliantly and believably. Whenever he's masking his inner self under the shell of a millionaire playboy, he is warm and smiley, making women laugh. But in the bat suit, he's tough, silent and brooding, releasing the darkness in his soul. Even when he's Wayne, you can still see just a glimpse of his dark side, you can tell that he is hiding something, but even then you could not believe that he's actually Batman without knowing.
@Anomalous6025 жыл бұрын

Remember: The only Superhero movie franchise before this was Christopher Reeve's Superman-All four of them-and Christopher Reeve was in perfect health. Imagine Reeve with his 6'4" frame standing next to Keaton's 5′ 9″ height. The Dark Knight would need milk crates just to have an eye-to-eye conversation with the Man of Steel.

Wow, Bruce Wayne practiced social distancing with guests like about 30 years before the COVID-19 pandemic even existed. Guy does social distancing before it was strictly necessary just because he's shown to be a socially awkward billionaire in public. And wow, Bruce you have a long dining table where you and Vicki sit on either side. It's a great representation how Bruce Wayne always keeps his girlfriends at arm's length due to his secret vigilante work as Batman and not wanting them to be involved in it at all due to their safety. But he's grown to trust Vicki enough to at least later in the film as Batman, let her into The Bat-Cave and I mean before this point, he only allowed Alfred in due to him being the most trusted person in his life even caring for him for when right after his parents were murdered. Bruce Wayne practiced social distancing before it was cool, definitely.

In my opinion, Keaton played a pretty realistic Bruce Wayne. Think about it, a man who never recovered from the trauma of watching his parents gunned down in front of him, dresses up like a bat and beats up criminals in the night? He WOULD be a social awkward, very distant, erratic and aloof guy. While Bale did a far superior job as Bruce than he did bat man, I felt like in public, he was just way to charismatic, eloquent and refined. Like, he really didn't have a problem making friends or at least trying to get people to like him. This Bruce is more believable. He struggles finding a balance for his ordinary life and his caped crusader life.
