Jim Carrey was riding a wave of success going into this movie. In 1994 he released Ace Ventura, The Mask and Dumb and Dumber. With that in mind I’m sure Tommy Lee Jones performance was a result of him maybe feeling he needed to try and keep up with Jim’s frantic energy which is why it feels like a little too much at times to Nicks point the result was in there not being any contrast. I Love the movie. Keep up the great work!!!

1:09:35 This plays into the Schumacher Cut thing. The revelation was supposed to be the Bruce finally finds his Dad's journal and learns that neither of his parents wanted to go see the movie that night and Bruce basically dragged them to go see it. It was supposed to send Bruce into a spiral that basically commits him to being Batman because he now can't be convinced that it wasn't his fault that his parents died. I would be fascinated to watch a fully version of the Schumacher cut just to see if it was any better because that sounds like the most soul crushing ending to a superhero film I've ever heard.

You've, intentionally or not, created a format that people really like. The plot is arguably the most important part of that format. I know it's my favorite aspect. Not a fan of this movie. There are definitley some laughs to be had at its expense, but so much of it feels half-assed. Val Kilmer seems like he doesn't want to be there - that take they used of him asking if it would possible to extract images out of someones mind...how, WHY? I can't even distinguish the Riddler from Two-Face, beyond their costumes. The score mostly just consists of different arrangements of the main theme and tacky song choices. The sets are sub Legend of the Hidden Temple quality with random lights to make it somewhat visually interesting I guess? The writing is garbage, which is to be expected with these movies I suppose, but at least in the last two movies you didn't have a character say that they were uncomfortable being waited on RIGHT AFTER taking it upon themselves to ask someome to wait on them. Bruce having any conflict over his identity went over my head - didn't seem to go anywhere at all. The weakest movie so far. It's bad.
@ianblackburn754 жыл бұрын
Tim, just because something "commits to what it is" does not mean it's good. What it's commiting to is a complete pile of shit. There's a reason the Batman movies got better when they cut out the camp. If the studio had let Burton commit more towards the darker elements of Batman, we might have got modern superhero movies a decade earlier than we did. Forever and Batman & Robin set the genre back for years.
@kindafunny4 жыл бұрын
I didnt say it was good. In fact I said it wasn't good. The others don't commit AND arent good. This at least hits what it set out to be. - Tim

@@kindafunny I don't understand that as an argument. Entertainment being subjective and all, if you like Forever more than 89, whatever, I get that, to each their own. If you liked the writing/plot/acting/music etc in one or the other more, ok I get it. But your "it commits more" critique makes no sense. Commits to what? If I understand you correctly I think your saying it commits to the campy tone more, which just brings me back around to my original argument. That campy tone is terrible, is almost universally derided, and sank the franchise to the point where they had to do a full reboot and move as far from it as possible. Commiting to a campy tone makes the movie worse, not better. Just come out of the closet man. Quit this "commits" nonsense, stand up for yourself and admit you love camp. It's the only explicable reason someone could like Forever more than 89. ;)
