This comic is so famous for Robin's death that I didn't know that it was in the middle-east. Or that superman is in it. Or an actual historical figure Ayatollah Kohmeini is in it. Or that Joker becomes an ambassador from Iran. This comic is kinda bizarre.

Like it's such a bizarre comic and so absurd that it really seems like they intended for the readers to vote for him to survive. And then people voted to kill him and they were like "oh, no, we only have like two weeks before printing, shit" and they just had to cobble shit together.
@wtk6069
@wtk6069 4 жыл бұрын
My understanding is the story would be printed basically the same except a few pages of difference. Compared to Jim Starlin's other comic work, even the rest of his rather serious Batman run, this story was just over the top and borderline absurd at times.

well to be fair Joker did much more to Supes than Bats at once, tricked him into killing his wife and unborn child and as a direct result lead to the complete destruction of metropolis and very really nearly all of its inhabitants. It was simple and no less engaging. If fact Jason thinking he could take the Joker himself adds a layer of depth to him. I like to think that even back then he knew the Joker deserved to die and that Bruce would never kill him.

I will never understand the people who hated Jason and voted for him to die. He was a sad, traumatised fifteen year old kid, lashing out in the only way he knew how. But he was still good and trying to do good. He really didn't deserve the treatment he got then or the constant blame for his own death in the years that followed (subsequent comics always seemed to forget to mention Sheila's involvement and the fact Jason went in because he thought she was in danger, rather than recklessly thinking he could take the Joker down alone)

Believe me when I say this Batman had gone through some of his most darkest moments in his career as a hero from the late 80s to early 90s. Batgirl (Barbra Gordon) was paralyzed for life originally by Joker, Robin (Jason) gets killed by the Joker, and of course Batman getting his back broken by Bane.

I'd like to see an alternate universe where the fans had voted for Jason to live. I wonder how that would have affected the timeline, I'm pretty sure Tim Drake and Damian would still be Robins, The only big change is that Jason's future persona would not be Red Hood or if he still were , He'd likely no longer be using guns and He'd maybe even stay at Gotham more often

But why did the fans vote to kill JT Robin? Well, JT Robin killed a pimp and lied to Batman about the incident. There were other things too. But this was the last straw. He threw the pimp off a building. If I remember the conversation went something like...... Batman; Robin, did he fall or did you push him? JT Robin; He slipped.
@NickthePobrecito
@NickthePobrecito 4 жыл бұрын
That’s not why they killed him. They voted to because he had the same origin story as Dick Grayson. He also came off as arrogant. He only came off like this because the person who created Jason Todd, didn’t like the idea of Batman having a sidekick so he made him seem horrible so that he could one day be reconciled. Also, the guy who Jason pushes off of the building had just forced a young girl into hanging herself. Also, keep in mind that Jason is a lot different than every other Robin. His rage is what empowers and defines him, and even Bruce understands that. So this is why, he kills. It’s the most effective way, and he personally doesn’t agree with Batman’s ways of returning them to Arkham Asylum because they’re just going to break out and do what they do, just to repeat the process. Jason knows that from personal experience. Although, today, Jason and the Batfamily are on good terms and often work together.

This means that Batman has been punching the joker with so much rage over everything the joker has done not realizing that it was done by 3 different people , this would send Batman into a crisis as he has punished 3 people for the wrong things the world's greatest detective has not actually caught the culprit after all 😯

After hearing the whole story for the first time I can see why this is one of the darkest stories of batman career. I'll be honest the story itself in my opinion is over the top rediculous. The fact that Joker would dress up in an Iranian garb is just baffling, and while I understand the US was having problems with Iran at the time, it just does not seem like something Joker would do, at least to me anyway. Really happy to finally see how Jason's death played out and it's truly tragic how he met his end. He wasn't perfect (then again who is) and while he did make some questionable descions as Robin, he died a hero, giving his life for the mother who gave him little love in return. Finally in my 100% honest opinion DC should never have bought Jason back as to me it cheepens what the Joker did on that day. I understand that in comics nobody stays dead, and maybe in a reboot he would have been bought back anyway, but it really would of been better had he remained in the grave to truly show how low the Joker is willing to go to push Batman closer to the edge. Thank you very much for showing this story Comichistorian, it was truly a joy to see as I've never read it and finally got to see it, thanks to you. :)

Jake Rutigliano I prefer it to be a DC Original Animated movie than a movie because it'll mess up. If A Death in the Family gets made as an animated movie, it has to be a sequel to The Killing Joke and a prequel/tie-in to Under the Red Hood while avoiding continuity issues.

Bernardo Lima When you need to watch a KZbin channel to have a movie explained to you, something must have been wrong with that movie. When a massive rift is formed between the fanbase, something is wrong with the movie. Of course it wasn't the worst ($250M budget and Zack's cool action style keep it from going there), but there's no argument that it could have been much, much better... and not in the way that "oh- ALL movies could be better" either.

Jason Todd, his mom, and those 8 Prisonguards, their deaths are on Batmans hands because he refuses to kill the Joker. It should be pretty clear to Batman that Joker will never be redeemed and functional in the normal society, and spending tax-money on keeping him in a jailcell is a waste of taxdollars. Batman should've just killed Joker and thereby prevented the death of these 10 people.

chad fulani He was a troubled boy with a violent streak, and Batman gave him martial arts training and a utility belt of weapons. It's not Jason that's the failure. It's just that Jason's upbringing was a failure on Batman's part. His death, of course, is another kind of failure for Batman.

+Just Some Guy with a Mustache. However, he learned to value other people's lives and not just his own, still tried to save the person who betrayed him because it was the right thing to do, and died in the attempt to save a life. Isn't that how a hero is supposed to die if they do in fact die?
@Just_Some_Guy_with_a_Mustache
@Just_Some_Guy_with_a_Mustache 8 жыл бұрын
chad fulani True. But Batman himself acknowledges he should've given Jason another outlet than this. His death is a failure not so much for himself as it is a failure for Batman. He failed to save this boy he put here in the first place.

@frofunk718 8 жыл бұрын
+Just Some Guy with a Mustache. Also true, but everyone looks at jason as a failed robin or a cautionary tale. Not as he should be truly seen. He was a robin who didn't have support, love or guidance (grayson, drake, and damian) and still managed to not have his harsh life make him the person he could have been. Yes, i understand who he is as the red hood now. Just saying that after constantly compared to dick grayson, having to take care of himself (which no robin or even bruce had to do), he managed to still care enough to want to fight crime and say fuck everything and everyone
