Joel Schumacher didn't have full creative control over Batman and Robin. In fact, Schumacher wanted to make a darker Batman movie akin to something like Year One, but WB wanted him to make a toy commercial for a Batman sequel. So no, Schumacher isn't entirely at fault. Batman and Robin suffered from studio interference.

Nate, the part in Crime Alley you're mentioning where you hear Hugo Strange's voice? You triggered a tape that Strange left there for Batman, where he basically mocks Bruce and his pain and the reason he wears the suit each night. In fact, you can see that he even leaves a bouquet with the tape and a note that says "It will end where it began."

Idk if it’s just me but I tend to give “bad” to “mid” games a fair shot until I’ve played it myself. The only batman game I’ve played outside of the Arkham series is Batman Vengeance on GameCube. Frustrating in some places but it was neat.

Yeah, Schumacher sadly had a bad rep in a handful of his movies. It was definitely not for lack of trying to make a good one. Though studio interference or not, I doubt it was the studio's idea for the Batnips and Bat-ass.
