I hate when a company feels they have to release a movie based game to collide with the release date of the film. Goldeneye came out 2 years after the film and that is named the best game based off a movie. Also I remember reading that Ledger had recorded lines for this game but don't know how true that is.
@liateRdnalkcoB8 жыл бұрын
Of course nowadays, titles move in and out of the public eye much quicker than when Goldeneye was released. But yes, rushing for release dates = terrible adaptations. A movie isn't complete until its complete, and a game based on it should be based on the complete state, so having them release simultaneously is a recipe for disaster.
@Tardivex8 жыл бұрын
+KevinT1149 I think it has more to do with how each contract is made, for instance in this video it's said that their rights to "use" the movie would run out in december of that year, making it impossible to release it afterwards, although I do agree with you that it needs more time to be a good game
@paradoxzee68348 жыл бұрын
Yeah it was out 2 years after the movie but Rare really pushed the deadline for the game, I remerber reading when Nintendo got the beta version of the game it was so buggy they say to Rare to stop the project that there was no way they fix bugs in time. So Rare payed the project theyselfs

+Tank207 I don't think EA is to blame in this case. They bought the license with a strict deadline already and gave them a lot of resourses to achieve the goal, it's just that there were a lot of development problems. Even tough EA has done some dickish things, you can't blame them for shutting the studio down after losing that much money (and they did offer the chance to relocate). This would have happened no matter what publisher it was.

It's not EA's fault, they should have picked another engine and rebuild with it, it would have given them time to finish the game instead of spending a year trying to stabilize an engine that they did not understand. This is why developers shouldn't be rushed to have a game adaption of movies. Even when they do come out, they tend to be mediocre anyway. With the Arkham series now done, they should do a series of games based in the world of Nolan's trilogy. Just imagine the gameplay of that series put into the world of the Dark Knight. The Arkham series was developed by Warner Bros Studios, who sold previously the rights to Batman games to EA, but after the contract expired, they could make whatever they wanted. They probably anticipated the moment the contract would expire and started making a game before that. EA can't sue them for making a game with their rights as long as they don't fill in a patent or do anything official to show it to the public.

This game can still happen. It simply just depends if people want to make it or not. Movie tie-in games shouldn’t be tied to the year right before, during, or after the release of the movie. That literally doesn’t stop from someone making a game from something they and others will like, plain and simple. The Dark Knight Video Game (2024) can still happen if people/companies stop being greedy, stupid or scared. And it would make a lot of money if done right. I don’t know about you but a game where you play as Christian Bale’s Batman fighting against his version of Joker and gliding around his world and using a different Batmobile that isn’t a tank but a car with many gadgets and weaponry including a built in bat-bike thing, is already different unique and has potential to be entertaining. It would just be Arkham Knight just not in the Arkham Series or style if that makes sense. Kinda like Gotham Knights except has more potential to be great

+Psycho Bastard ...no. Eidos Interactive owned publishing rights to make a Batman video game at the time, but didn't have anything planned until the TDK project was canned. As soon as word got out, they hired Rocksteady to develop a Batman game, and thus Arkham Asylum was born.

2008-2009 huh? Well it was a necessary sacrifice... ;) And if Pandemic (the real Star Wars Battlefront games!...) had to die so the Arkham Trilogy can be born, Well it worth it! ^^ Plus Rockstady listened to you Nolan's fans: they made the suit and "batmobile" of The Dark Knight in Arkham Knight...

Already said so elsewhere, but great work Liam. If you like these videos, I definitely recommend supporting his Patreon for early access to these goodies. Deserves it. :)

I had a friend working on the game. He was working on the backgrounds. And even leaked me some images of what he was working on. He didn't tell me what the title was until they had announced it. He was one of the employees that went to LA to finish Saboteur. Apparently the accommodation they stayed in was pretty fancy.

An example of a studio's own downfall. In this instance, they made some bad decisions, or consequences of decisions led to them not being able to deliver the project and bleeding money so their parent company had no choice but to shut them down and recoup their losses. Shame, because The Dark Knight was the best movie out of the trilogy and the game would have sold ridiculous numbers. It would have been Pandemic's biggest title.

How awesome would it have been for Heath Ledger's Joker to be in a video game!!! Such a shame it never got to happen.

I can't help but think that current EA would of just said "It's fine, ship it as is and well fix it with DLC"
