I love Iceberg images and was shocked to discover that there is not one for the 2005 Battlefront II. I then resolved to make my own. In this video we check out some of the lesser known facts about this game, find hints at unreleased game modes and characters in the code, discuss Battlefront 3's strange history, and learn about the various voice actors in the game

@lordmartinofleithandcuddy6541
@lordmartinofleithandcuddy6541 Жыл бұрын
This is likely because in the lore, the stormtrooper armour prevents them being killed easily; when you see them being shot in the movies and series, they (usually, according to the canon) are knocked out since the suit absorbs the blow of the blaster bolt and spreads it across the body, thus necessitating further shorting if you want to ensure the trooper’s death.

I think the main reason why Dagobah is so eerie and unsettling is because none of us expected to actually use that area as a battlefield. Think about it, we see it in empire strikes back yoda’s hideout but have you ever really been like “hey let’s fight a war here”. Dagobah is the last place where a battlefield would be which makes the player think “maybe I shouldn’t be here, something just isn’t right”

I did some data mining on battlefront and I found out there’s a lot of extra stuff outside of the walls on dagobah that implied the map was actually bigger. There’s also a texture used, or meant for the cave, and the contents of it is a brick wall with ornate markings covered in vines. Perhaps implying the cave was an overgrown Jedi temple or the map had ruins. This is the only map with significant details outside of its borders btw.

In regards to your point on "Cut Heroes", there was a Cut Hero Skin for Luke Skywalker (Episode IV Farmboy Luke) that appeared in the manual for Star Wars Battlefront II (2005), but not in the actual game. DICE ended up adding the exact same skin into the reboot Battlefront II and the Community Manager, Ben Walke, referred to it as "the Prophecy has finally been fulfilled." "The prophecy" referred to the original 2005 game Manual. Nice little detail I thought you would be interested in knowing!

I think the answer for the narrator still being alive and fighting is that he was probably turned into one of Phase 0 Dark Troopers that serve as the Empire's enforcer unit. Whereas Dark Troopers are traditionally droids (though the big ones can also be mechs), the Phase 0 ones introduced in Battlefront weren't, they were cybernetically-upgraded Clones, chosen from the most effective veterans, and enabling them to fight on despite their advanced aging.

@ToaArcan

@@justindestroyer1 Phase 0 Dark Troopers are the ones from the Battlefront games. Dark Troopers were introduced in the Dark Forces game, with three Phases of design. Phase 1 was a basic battle droid with minimal armour, a vibroblade, and a riot shield. They were made of phrik, the same material used for the electrostaves carried by Magnaguards, making them resistant to Lightsabers. They also had jump packs. Phase 2 were bigger, and able to be worn as armour by human pilots. They were equipped with assault cannons and arc casters. These models are what the Dark Troopers in _the Mandalorian_ were based on. Phase 3 were even bigger, and packed with weapons, including seeker missiles, wrist-mounted blaster cannons, and rocket tubes in each shoulder. Then Battlefront introduced a fourth variety that was kinda like the Phase 1 and 2, but explicitly a human/clone that the player you could swap to at any point. These were given the retroactive lore that they were just Clone Troopers upgraded into cyborgs, as a prototype for the ones in Dark Forces. As such, they were labelled "Phase 0" retroactively. Dark Troopers in Battlefront carried a "blast cannon" (also known as a shotgun), and a light repeating blaster as a sidearm. In Battlefront II, these were switched out for an arc caster and a commando pistol.

I agree with the eerie feeling on Dagobah part. It doesn't help that it has a similar look and feel to the Halo: Combat Evolved story mission "343 Guilty Spark", where you're dropped in a foggy, swamp-like area, only to find that something has been killing and infecting The Covenant and UNSC Marines alike to become zombie-like creatures known as The Flood. Although the cave with Darth Vader's breathing was also spooky, I also found it fascinating because I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be an Easter Egg referring to Luke's journey to become a Jedi in Empire, where he went into a cave on Dagobah and fought an illusion of Vader.

My biggest gripe with this game as a child was always that when you played Geonosis instant action, that the clone commander unit was a phase 2 space marine and that they did not take time to model a phase 1 clone commander. Hot take: I prefer the idea of the clones knowing full well of order 66 and having the motivation to do it be "do it or you're a traitor." Early seasons of clone wars even hint at this like when the geonosis worms take over the clones, after they catch Barris, they say "if there's one thing we clones know how to do, it's catch a Jedi." The fact that this bit of information overrides the literal mind controlling parasite is more fascinating than "oh they just got a chip in their head making them do it."

I remember in online play on PC, detpack throws were a huge aspect to multiplayer and along with the healing supplies engineers had which made the class one of the metas for multiplayer. 2. Death Star hidden pyramids. On the Death Star map, to the right of the room that contains the laser is a collection of pyramids in the void. You can access it by a section of the wall in the cell block and walking on top of the roof with the jet trooper class. 3. Dagobah backrooms. My memory is fuzzy on the specifics but on Dagobah, theres a section on the map on the right hand side of the wall when your standing at Yoda’s hut. If you follow along the wall there’s a clump of branches you can jump into and if you do enough rolls, you’ll clip into the other side of the map into a large area that has tons of small ponds, piles of rocks, and creeks that loop around the entire map. If you just walk forward, you walk off the map for what seems like an eternity.

Regarding 3, another commenter here claims to have datamined Dagobah and discovered a significant area outside the map that utilizes a jedi temple texture.

The last one really spooked me. I think the idea of you being a soldier and you have to follow your orders wether you like it or not is the most horrifying thing ever. Knowing that your actions will cause a galactic empire and the fall of the republic you once knew is genuinely terrifying. I actually prefer this idea over the "inhibitor chips" they added in later down the line. The inhibitor chips seem like a light hearted excuse rather than you being bred for combat and then being told to brutally murder the very general you fought alongside with and just rolling with it because there is nothing you can do. Being told to murder the very person you trusted with your life is genuinely horrifying not to add that the man in the story starts realizing that going to war and dying is the only purpose in life he actually has and there is nothing he can do about it because he was made to be a soldier and nothing else is so depressing.

Quit? They can't because then they will have no where to go. They have no choice but to fight because that's the only thing they can do.

You're forgetting order 66 isn't the only order. Right before 66 is order 65, arrest/eliminate the Supreme Chancellor. These clones knew they'd eventually have to do a ton of things they might not personally agree with but they steeled on. Also pre-inhibitor chips, not all clones chose to execute their Generals. Some units like the Republic Commandos chose to ignore the order outright, and most who did execute it hated their Jedi Generals. Don't forget, not all Jedi were good leaders, and many got unnecessary amounts of men killed.
@shadow-squid4872
@shadow-squid4872 Жыл бұрын
The chips make more sense logically to me, as you would want to make certain that as many troopers as possible actually obey the order instead of ignoring it which not only makes that Jedi survive, but now they have most of if not all of the clones serving under them at their side instead of fighting for the Empire. The inhibitor chips aren’t something like mind control, all they do is *inhibit* the clones free thinking which assures that they follow all of their orders without question
@PosthumanHeresy
@PosthumanHeresy Жыл бұрын
In terms of the concept in isolation, I prefer them knowing. But in the story at large, it doesn't work with the rest of the plotting. The clones would never do it. Dictators are terrified of charismatic generals in real life because the armies will side with the general they served under and not the actual leader of the nation. The soldiers who live are loyal to the nation second and to each other first. A charismatic, kind, good general is like your grandfather. We know that the Jedi who fostered that relationship most served closely alongside their men, which _vastly_ boosts loyalty. Napoleon returned from exile and his men immediately turned on France and became his men again precisely because of it. Napoleon is the ultimate example of why Order 66 only works with the chips. Every main Jedi was a Napoleon to their troops. Palpatine was that ballsack in office. Realistically, "Execute Order 66" "Did you say Order 65?" "No, 66" "I heard 65, we're on our way." "NOOOOOO!!!"

22:32 Me and my brother actually found a more interesting version of this glitch years ago that I've never really seen anyone ever make mention of. Basically there exists a method where you can, with a shuttle/transport ship, do the landing and takeoff sequence over and over again in a loop, even outside the hangar. You see, the takeoff animation actually raises the ship upwards and forwards a small amount each time, and the landing animation obviously just looks for ground to hit, meaning you can adjust your elevation and position at all times if you keep the rhythm correct. Essentially what this would allow you to do is land anywhere outside the hangar in a space battle. The top of a star destroyers command bridge, near those big beam lasers auto turrets, on top of a rebel transport. It took forever, but if you kept up with the process of continually landing and taking off in space you could touchdown anywhere you wanted on the map. It's not a super crazy thing to think about now, seeing as this game is basically just a modders passion nowadays. But doing that shit back on the PS2 was wild.

Another funfact: The original version had the clones in white, cause the game was developed in the Episode 3 making. After the suddenly change of the clone army for more colorized clones, Pandemic tried to implement those changes in every map in the game, but by the end, they just stand with the Migueto, Kashyck and Corruscant soldiers, so they mix them up in the 501 army.

22:35 - It’s actually possible to perform the take-off/land technique to get out of the hangar entirely and “hobble” across the space of the map. When I was a kid, I would actually do that, land on the Acclimators, and walk around on the frigate looking up at the dogfights overhead. I miss that about old games. Certain things were just a little less polished with a few more tears in the screen which allowed players more opportunities to gently break the game and explore the “hidden features” or even “secret realms” of a beloved game.

Nice work on a classic game from a different time. About the entry on Dagobah, the creepy vibe is due to the uncanny valley. We know it as a mysterious place with life in it so expect to see that. Hey, ain't nothing wrong with loving a game to the point you you know it all. In my book that means you got good taste. P.S. I do have a part 2 to this Iceberg. Isn't too much new, but now I'm curious if you know everything on that one as well

I prefer the “they knew” version to the inhibitor chip version. It’s believable since the clones were practically raised on order 66 and informed in advance that there would be these “Jedi’s” they’d eventually be taking orders from; and if necessary would one day have to kill

There's elements of both I like and dislike, but there something so sinister about the "they knew" angle. It makes the clones, and by extention Palpatine, far more menacing since it was such a long term plan

They knew worked better with the orginal version of clones being without personality, but with the way the clone wars portrayed clones with domino squad and captain rex, it had them open up to the point where you had to make inhibitor chips or some other good reason to make them unable to choose otherwise it makes less sense that no one disobeyed orders, it also does make a Palpatine more evil, because he not only mind controlled enough soldiers for a galactic war, he had them kill people that were in some cases beloved by them, and then never explained what he did, or how he could do the same thing to them again

@@calebbarnhouse496 and that's one of the things I like about the Canon version, how Palpatine straight up took away their ability to choose and turned the Jedi's closest friends (in some cases) into their most lethal enemies

@@ciudad1696 it also makes him seem smarter as a villian because he could easily claim he had no knowledge of the inhibitor chips or its protocols, ensuring no one has any idea about it, both have advantages, and I like the idea of knowing they were gonna do it to be how jedi post purge felt about the situation when they went throughout there lives

When you talked about Gravity in Space. I knew about that for a long time. I played Battlefront 2 on the psp. The Dagobah map, I agree with how creepy it looks and sounds. I didn't know about the other version of the gunship. Great video! :D I subbed. :)

I haven't watched the whole two parts but I wanna say one of the dark depth items should be the "Zero Engine" Both Pandemic Battlefronts run off of the Zero Engine which was previously used for Battlezone II: Combat Commander, some visual quirks of this can still be seen such as the way water is rendered and the way the IFT-T/X fins move about like the hover tanks of BZ2, and even the way the treads on the ATD move.

25:48 Sorry if I'm coming off as nit-picky, but the Clones didn't know that they would betray the Jedi. They had a whole list of contingency orders drilled into them from birth, 150 of them in fact. Each one was treated as the most important order they could ever receive, as each one had a logical explanation behind why such an order would be issued. Order 66 doesn't seem suspicious when a good chunk of these orders dealt with removing the Chancellor from power as well. That's also why order 66 worked. Because to the average Clone who grew up brainwashed to be loyal to the Republic, and who barely interacted with Jedi, order 66 was just obedience to their way of life. No chips needed when your army is already indoctrinated and radicalized. (From a story telling standpoint, it allowed for more nuanced reasons for those who deserted and those who obeyed. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of the chips, I just like the original idea better) I *highly* recommend reading the Republic Commando series. It goes very in depth to what the Clone Army was like in the old canon.

I think what he really meant was that the clones were conscious and aware while executing order 66. It’s not that they knew all along, but that they received the order and chose to follow with their own free will, rather than having a switch go off in their heads

I don't think that is true in the context of SWBFII. IIRC the other contingency orders were fleshed out later in the Expanded Universe, RotS and SWBF only ever alluded to Order 66, which might very well have been a codename. Also, the voiceover in the Mygeeto and especially the Felucia missions makes it clear that the clones knew from the very start that they were going to kill the Jedi. "It was a good thing we were wearing helmets, because none of us could bear to look her in the eye."

Quick tip for that landing outside the capital ship hangar trick, you can actually land on a republic frigit if you walk off the ship above it in the space kashyyk map (I think it's space kashyyk could've been space mygeeto) which allows you to mess around & sabatoge the frigit's turrets by planting timebombs

The thing with the orders for the Original Clones (aka not the new canon), there were way more than 66 Orders. One of the Orders was to capture the Chancellor and another was to take over the Council. Another interesting thing is that the CIS droids had a similar set of Orders in case the Clones didn't work out. Strangest was that there's a very obscure Order that would've had the CIS and Clones working together to take over the Galaxy for Palpatine.

on dagoboh i would play as yoda and run at the bottom of the lakes. while running you can barely see him unless your playing him and if you get good enough you can pull some horror movie shit and have trooper after trooper vanish into the fog never to be seen and unable to attack the hidden threat. My friends hated playing me on that level with heros on.
