It's never mentioned in the comics but I think the Batman Who Laughs infected this Superman with Black Kryptonite. It's so weird that he was there right after the kill, the other "dark knights" were influenced by the dark multiverse long before BWL showed up. - Superman screams out of pain when Devastator exhales green kryptonite, kryptonite doesn't hurt Superman it only weakens him. Or was he in pain because the green kryptonite reacting to something else (like black kryptonite)? - "I held back for so long." It's like this Bruce Wayne knew something that he was part of the dark multiverse, and something like that was inevitable.

That whole world was born out of Batmans inherent fear of Superman turning against the world he swore to protect, of his best friend giving in to the allure of his own power, and the things he would need to do to stop him. I think the uncertainty, of never ever knowing what sent Superman of the edge, is a big part of that fear.

Given the context of what Batman was saying, it’s clear that Superman wasn’t Brainwashed or being controlled by something. Since this is the dark multiverse, a world that was never meant to happen, I believe that this Superman really did just snap and decided that he couldn’t take being a hero, a human anymore. This one actually has an excuse. The "Doomsday Virus" was an existing thing at the time, and had previously turned Superman into a ridiculously powerful fusion of Doomsday and Superman - the only thing that had properly gone toe to toe with Superdoom for even a second was Wonder Woman with her power limiter off, and even then she only briefly halted it. I guess the only change Batman made here is that this one exhales Kryptonite farts lol also that was a weird era of Superman

She’s not gonna get blitzed buut she’d probably lose eventually on her own. The fight would take enough time for others to notice though, letting the rest of the league dog his ass. flash could trap him into the speed force, Martian man hunter could send him into a mental vortex of cognitive fuckery, Nabu can turn his body into a pile of pastry bagels then rip out his soul and teleport it to the tenth realm of tragabathos or whatever fancy name for a magic place the writers come up with. Theres too many damn heroes on earth for superman to take by himself, a lot that have been wanked with feats comparable to his at one point or another in the comics, he’ll lose without anyone backing him.
