If Alfred's first assumption is that Thomas and Martha Wayne are ghosts, why does he fire at them with a gun? Is the common assumption that a ghost can be affected by bullets? Traditionally ghosts are disembodied. Perhaps if he mistook them for zombies, his instinct to shoot-first would make more sense?
