I honestly think this movie will age well. I'm already seeing a lot of people coming around to this film. Now I'm not saying everyone suddenly thinks it's a masterpiece. But people are definitely appreciating it more, especially after ZSJL. For me I've always loved BvS.(Ultimate Edition). I understand that the movie is very flawed. But it's equally ambitious. It takes big swings with these characters to tell a BIG story. That is something I appreciate. It took the most famous traditional heroes. And deconstructs them to their lowest point in order to build them back up. And I loved this take. Anyway. No matter other people's opinions. I'll always find great entertainment in this film.

8:56 The conflict did NOT come to a halt when the two realized that their mothers had the same name. Hearing that name only enraged Bruce further, as he most likely thought it was some trick. It wasn't until Lois showed up and explained that Clark was referring to his own mother that Bruce calmed down. Learning that Superman isn't just the alien monster that can wipe out all life on Earth, and that he has a mother that he cares for, huminized this god-like figure that Bruce had spent the past 18 months obsessing over. In that moment, Bruce just saw a scared little boy trying to protect his mother, as he once did; and this snaps Batman out of his kill-rage. I really don't understand why that's so hard to understand...

@@DuneLover1472 The killing was just wrong for Batman, it was a chance to get one of the most comic book accurate portrayals of the character but they had him just killing people and it’s wrong I’m aware he’s killed in other films and even in the early comics but Batmans no killing rule is such an essential and interesting part of the character and having him cross that line is a line too far, him killing so much makes him just as bad as the villains he faces The comic they based their version off mostly which is the dark knight returns, that Batman similar to Batfleck is darker, battle hardened, older and more cynical yet he still sticks to his No killing rule, he’s just more brutal in his combat now I thought it would have been a better choice to have him go to the brink of killing but not go through with it, at least then it keeps in character with Batman And it doesn’t even make sense in universe for him to be killing people. If he’s killing low level thugs why doesn’t he just kill The Joker? 20 years of been Batman surely he’s had plenty of chances and if he has no issue killing people then surely he’d be killing villains like that

The concept behind the scene is solid! It *couldve* been really impactful. If it weren’t written in a silly goofy way. People call it silly because it was written poorly. The Martha scene is fantastic - it snapped Batman out of his kill rage and made him see Superman as not some strange alien murderous threat but as someone with a mother who he's trying to save. When you watch a movie the first time you watch it for the movie you hope it will be and what you want it to be. When you watch it the second time you watch it for the movie it really is. I admit I did not like BVS when I first saw it opening day in IMAX. It was not the movie I was hoping for when it came to "batman vs superman" BUT after watching it a second time, watching it for what it is... I appreciated it more and with more viewings of the Ultimate Cut I loved it even more. It was a unique comic book film for its time, it came out when sugar sweet Marvel movies were dominating. The fact that this film is still talked about and still polarizes people speaks volumes. Side Nots: The terrible name 'Batman v Superman' was the studios demand not Zack's. It's pretty unfair he gets all the flack for it when he himself didn't like the title.

Most of the complaints are really superficial or misunderstood. There’s so many layers to discover if you rewatch it. I actually personally love the Martha scene because it also has multiple layers that unfortunately went over people’s heads and they sadly ended up only taking it at face value. My only issue with this video is the purposefully obtuse characterization of the Martha scene..Its ok that you dont like it but Im sure you know that its not so much about them having the same name. Martha is a phrase thats said or shown several times throughout the film. In the opening montage, Thomas Wayne saids it....Lex Luthor says it repeatedly to Clark on that building rooftop. Its trying to convey through foreshadowing that "Martha" will have significance. I get that a lot of folks didnt catch it and when explained people choose to hold on to the "our mothers have the same name" narrative....I could speculate that its more fun or appeasing to the ego but I really dont know 🤷🏽‍♂

In a market of formulaic origin stories and superhero comedies, BvS stands out to me even 7 years later. It dared to be different. It dared to question things about Superman and Batman we as an audience have taken for granted for years. It gives Superman an actual arc about his relationship with humanity and vice versa. If Superman existed he would NOT be universally accepted. He would be questioned, feared, admired, and hated. And as a regular guy ultimately that would wear him down until he found a strong purpose to carry on. Barman is a guy who has routinely traumatized himself over and over again for 20 years as Barman. He's watched his efforts amount to nothing and all he got out of it was a broken body and a dead Robin. Now aliens are coming to Earth, destroying cities and killing his people. Of course he's going snap and throw his rulebook out the window. Nothing he did mattered so why should his rules? The movie allowed our heroes to be extremely flawed and lost in their darkness, but also showed how these titans found their way back to the light. It's funny to me when people say Superman was too depressed yet I personally know people who say watching Superman goes through depression and conquer it gave them hope they could do the same, which is exactly what these heroes are supposed to do.

I've watched this movie 3 times and I'm still finding new elements that solidify the story, and I've always seen it as cohesive. I have to say Zack Snyder did the material justice and it's pretty amazing that he put it together with only Man of Steel as the foundation. Yet we got an epic BVS battle for the main event, with Doomsday and Wonder Woman getting just enough time to not take away from the focus, and Lex Luthor being a leading antagonist without that even being the main rivalry! Furthermore, we got sightings of the Justice League cast in a manner that tied into the plot, even teasing the Wonder Woman movie with the photo she wanted to erase that was on the stolen drive. While not much screen time for the members, there was decent context throughout that was built upon. I mean, seeing the reveal of the members was like a post credits scene in the middle of the movie at the height of the action! Why follow and do the teaser post credits? To me this movie is the textbook definition of balance, which i feel was executed quite well considering the unconventional approach to the storyboard. Snyder... no, any director, who can do that without it feeling shoe-horned deserves props. This movie being a follow up for Man of Steel and a set up for Justice League resulted in an unusual formula WB had both established and relied on as the foundation for future films in the universe. In my opinion it's a welcome deviation from the typical trilogy formula. I hope WB realizes there are also people that don't hate the Snyderverse, and just because other people say it's scattered and incohesive, doesn't mean that it the case. Hopefully they'll see that and consider ways to include the cast in future films and tv. I do get how these characters might not be the prefered adaptations of the source material, and I agree Batman went too far with the killing. One is okay, maybe even two, if that was the only way to save someone in danger. Just my opinion, but that is a whole debate in itself.

This is what I call the ultimate guilty pleasure superhero movie. If you ask me which movie is better, BvS or Civil War, I'd say Civil war is faarr better. But if you asked me to rewatch one right now on gunpoint, I'd pick BvS. Despite being a lesser movie, BvS just has a weird effect on me. I love the score, the cinematography and the action. The visuals and the first two hours of the ultimate cut is just so easy to sit through for me. Its only the last hour with doomsday when things get overwhelming. I liked the political takes and themes, until the generic final battle at the end. I still don't think its a great movie but I can, and will, be rewatching or thinking about this movie far more than most comic book movies ever made. theres just something about movies like this, dark, edgy, less focused on cringy humor, etc that I like to revist from time to time. @@EduFabolous If we're talking about visuals or soundtrack, BvS is light years ahead of Civil War, so no argument there. Having said that the last hour of BvS was just painful to sit through for me. The first two hours were like a drama with moments of action sprinkled through out which gave it great balance (aside from unnecessary cameos from other superheroes). then all of a sudden its not stop action in the last hour. that was what annoyed me the most. They were so close to making a great movie with the juxtaposition of thought provoking questions regarding superheroes in real life while simultaneously having the villain's plans work out at the back, but at the end everything became who can punch harder (like a generic action movie, think Fast and Furious or some of the mediocre Marvel films). Imagine if in the climax of The Dark Knight, instead of the moral dilemma regarding the boats and two face was switched with Twoface suddenly coming to his senses and help Batman catch Joker, making light of the situation all the way using quips. I like BvS but it has way too many flaws holding it back. So does Civil War. the difference is that Civil War stayed consistent with its storyline till the end. Its the exact opposite of BvS. I despised the last act of BvS, while on the other hand my fav in Civil War, was the last act.

@@EduFabolous If we're talking about gods fighting, MoS had a much better fight. BvS had a good concept but personally watching it all take place in the night ruined it for me. It had it moments like when WW showed up to save Batman with Epic music in the background, or when all 3 of them worked to kill Doomsday, but other than that, it was underwhelming in clarity, while overwhelming in cgi chaos. I don't mind seeing gods fight and leave carnage, but I need to see it properly to enjoy it. MoS did a far better job in that department, with a significantly better villian I may add. As for Civil War, I agree that for the most part the consequences were microscopic. One of many reasons I did not like the Airport fight as much as others, aside from horrible sense of geography. Seriously, if you rewatch that scene, its hard to tell where each character is at during the fight, they keep changing places despite being in an airport. that aside the best part of that movie, at least for me, was at the end when Tony finds out how his parents died. its kind of a thing for me that when usually comic characters get super serious, its entertaining like little else. Seeing Ironman ready to kill was a ton of fun. So much so 90% of my memory of that film is that 3 way at the end. As for the retconned part, I assume you're talking about the part Cap leaves the letter? I personally don't think it was retconned because it was Cap trying to reconcile, Not Tony. If it had been Tony, it would've ruined the movie. It fit Cap's character to a boy scout who favors one group member over other. Those BuckyXCap memes didn't come out of nowhere. BvS is, interns of filmmaking, more "cinema" I guess. it has far better shots, visuals, soundtrack, overall technical stuff, but personally, despite its own flaws, one thing Civil War had that BvS didn't was set up and pay off. BvS came close but the eagerness of the studio ruined it. It was hard to focus on how Superman came off to the world when we kept getting meaningless cameos. I personally think that if they deleted WW all together and just focused on Batman and Superman only, this movie would've been awesome. Civil war is not awesome per se, but its one of the better marvel movies since just like BvS, it had conflict between their main superheroes, but while Marvel had them duke it out at the end without outside help, DC had them in the middle. Airport scene took place in the middle and the main trio fight at the end. When you think about it, it was the opposite approach in BvS. they had the newcomer superhero, WW, fight at the end and steal some of the spotlight while in Civil War, the spotlight remained on the main ones. They had fricking Spiderman and they only had him appear in the middle. He was a cameo too, but unlike BvS, they limited the cameo in the right place. I really think they could've just ended the movie after the Batman and Superman fight. Batman saves Martha and Superman arrests Luthor. Luthor's failed plan would've proved Superman innocent and it would've also worked in pissing Lex off worse, to the point of a mental breakdown even. Then in the sequel he would've created Doomsday in his peak crazy state, due to the humiliation and stuff. they just crammed too much in BvS. anyway that's just my opinion. Sorry if this reply was too long.
@EduFabolous
@EduFabolous Жыл бұрын
@@captaindeadpool313 yes, I think I agree with you on most points, for me just the cinematography of BvS makes it a far better film without dwelling into the other stuff, but I agree with most stuff. At first I thought the same as you for the Doomsday fight but over time I actually think it’s one of times real super heroes were shown fighting like that and the CGI has stood up really, with doomsday being kind of underrated but overall I agree with you, if the movie ended after the Batman and Supes fight would be good but what we got was also great, with Batman redemption starting with Supes death. As for civil war, that airport fight has to be the most Disney thing I have ever seems, should be huge stakes but you just watch for the fun of it, but I loved spidey there (don’t like holland that much though ) And BvS has so much rewatchability is not even funny, for example the Lex montage of other heroes most people say it a shameless plug for other movies (which it kind of is) but the way they handled it I think was the best I have seen, because all that data just proves lex was deep into finding some one or something to kill Supes, and the fact he chooses Batman ( which is not in the montage ) just shows how deep down Batman is, Lex had multiple heroes to try and influence to deal with Supes but even lex new Batman would be a better bet. Lastly, I feel MCU movies barely know what is cinematography or sound, and for that reason alone they cannot be good films, just enjoyable content But I agree with you a lot actually, you at least seem not to be bashing BvS just because it’s more serious

The movie should have just been about them overcoming their differences to stop Luthor from using kryptonian tech to gain an edge over the world, only because Krypton destroyed HIS city Also, Doomsday should have been saved for his own movie.

I don't think BvS is bad at all, in fact I think it's a great movie. But the problem is that it tries to do too much but for that I blame the studio and not Zack Snyder. The studio should have taken things more slowly and setting the DCEU more step by step with other standalone movies BEFORE BvS, like a flash movie or aquaman; this one could've taken place just in land with Arthur learn about himself, leaving the Atlantis for a sequel that ideally should've been the 2018 movie. Also a cyborg movie would've been perfect to explore the origins of the Mother Boxes 09:07 I disagree. In that moment batman realised that he was wrong about superman, he stops seeing him as a threat and starts to see superman as "human". Somehow that moment makes Bruce to have a little hope in his heart

Only real problems I had was the convoluted plot, and the fact that doomsday wasn't given a chance to keep morphing into his comic accurate form. And yeah the Martha thing wasn't my favorite decision story wise, but none of these things stopped me from having a blast in theaters. The fight between Batman and Superman was fantastic....the fight with doomsday still gives me goosebumps, especially when wonder woman makes her grand appearance and when superman drops in from space creating a sonic boom sound to show the trinity on screen for the first time. And I never had a problem with Jesse eisenberg . Sure I wish it would have been Bryan Cranston....but I've never cared for the lex luthor character, and liked seeing him portrayed differently than hackman or spacey. Cavill will always be my favorite version of my favorite comic book character and its very aggravating he wasn't able to continue and that Snyder wasn't able to finish his story. FFS: it is not that they become friends because "they realize their moms have the same name". It's been 8 years. Can we stop it with that? That moment in the film is actually beautifully realized: up to that point Bruce had seen Clark as an alien who could turn on humanity at any point and, not being from this world, he would have no qualms destroying it all. During their fight, as Batman is close to killing him, Batman's mask is half broken showing both sides of the personality of Bruce: the man and the symbol. His 'human' half has glowing eyes the closer we get to the moment when he is about to kill Superman, showing how his rage has consumed him and he has become a beast. As he is about to kill Superman he hears a familiar name. In that second he realizes that there is more to Superman and that, after all, he has a connection to Earth. That just like he put on the suit to fight against the criminals that took his parents Superman cares for his mom as well, suddenly making him 'human' after all. Bruce's eye stops glowing as he realizes that, in that very moment, he has almost become the same as the one who took his parents from him. And if this mighty, all powerful being down on the floor is begging not for his life but rather for the life of his human mother, then maybe what Bruce thought of him was wrong. One characteristic of Snyder movies is that he doesn't spell everything for you like Marvel movies do. The is more subtext, symbolism, and giving audiences credit that they'll figure it out. The way subtle details are used in this scene to enhance the performances is great, but the point of the wasn't at all a "Our mothers are called the same?! High Five, bro!".

@8:58 It humanized Superman in Batman's eyes. It's not just "oh their mothers have same name, that's stupid."

for me, the most controversial thing in BvS was the casting for Luthor. movie-wise, MoS was the most controversial in WB's DCEU. 13:36 the additional 31 minutes in the Ultimate Edition add more context to the story than just violence. watching the theatrical version i felt some of the scenes don't connect smoothly, as if something was missing. they were remedied in the Ultimate Edition.

There's nothing controversial about lex though he's based on Lex Luthor Jr from Superman birthright hence why he wouldn't shut up about his abusive Dad and why he does things the he does in this film Lex Luthor Sr was abusive and cruel to Jr and messed him up mentally

The original name for this movie was Dawn of Justice. But the execs made Zack put in the Batman and Superman part.

Why is Joblo having some hack make this video who doesn’t even understand the most pivotal moment in the film. The Martha scene. It isn’t just because their moms had the same name 🥱🙄. All these years later and you still don’t understand such a simple scene. Bruce saw himself as the killer. He was becoming the one who killed his parents. That’s what stopped him. Not bc the Mom’s have the same name lmaoooo. It triggered a memory. The dude had ptsd.

The more I watch Succession the more I picture Roman Roy taking over Waystar and becoming this version of Lex, just like this movie implies there was a Lex senior who was abusive and cruel and probably the Lex that the fans were hoping for

I liked this film in theory and believe it was just the wrong film for it’s time; releasing at the pinnacle of the MCU which set a tonal expectation for comic book movies. It was a contrast to the MCU that audiences just didn’t like. People watching it for the first time today appreciate it more. The Martha scene never worked for me though. Pivotal moments like that shouldn’t need constant justification and commentary. It clearly didn’t register with audiences. There were much better and obvious motivations than Martha…

Imagine being such a loser you're still complaining about this movie, which was outstanding by the way. Especially the directors cut.

I don't know what others think about this film, I loved it very much. It has some issues but still it's one of the best CBM. The arc of characters throughout the trilogy is so satisfying. The acting, the cinematography, the music, the dialogues, the costumes everything was perfect. It depicted the society, the influence of media, the cruel and kind nature of humans brilliantly.
