John Buscema.....The Master of Superhero and Human Anatomy. Nobody draws Captain America or Silver Surfer better than John Buscema. R.I.P. John Buscema......You were one of the best!

Love the way he starts out drawing Captain America with his hand at the back of the pencil for the loose sketch then tightens up on the pencil for the detail work. Awesome technique!

The face and legs are a dead giveaway on a Buscema hero. I can't see his stuff without thinking of "How to Draw Comics the marvel Way." That was my comic art guidebook when I was young. He was a legend. Never seen Bill's process before, but it's what you'd imagine: Impressionistic, bouncing around from spot to spot. A dash of this, a splash of that. 100 percent unique. These videos are absolutely priceless. Love all three of them.

John is and always will be my first mentor in comic book art. Rip buddy. And I love the brush work on Elektra's hair, Sienkiwicz. Never would've thought of that trick and it's so simple. And using the whiteout to highlight the hair and other features, brilliant!

Sienkiewicz's Elektra may be my least favorite of this bunch but his way of working is definitely an interesting one. 90% percent of the time his style is very loose, then all of a sudden he seems to be very cautious as to what to do. In addition, it took me probably dozen times to watch this video before I noticed he was sitting on the floor which in itself gives this a somewhat cozy "off-duty" feel. I like it.

That's how u sketch, hold the pencil as if it was a brush, then U are not just using your wrist for movement of the pencil, but your whole arm and shoulder, plus U can cover more ground that way....A true master!

It has now been a decade and some change since I first watched this video and I still don't know anything about the guy that drew Elektra and I still find his drawing style mesmerisingly strange. He just places random dots and lines here and there. Nothing looks deliberate. Nothing looks like he planned it ahead of time. It both drives me crazy and fascinates me.

I am not stating that the artists of yesterday aren't quality artists. They were indeed artists first and foremost and understood a lot of what Mr. Liefeld doesn't. I have great respect for Kirby, Buscema, etc. But to look at some of what is being done today, the art at times can be breathtaking and really showcases things that were simply not back in the day. Plus the panel work being done these days is dynamic, and simply awesome.

it's most likely a sable brush - all of the old school comic artists swear by them, made from the hair of a sable horse from a specific seasonal coat. Pricey (125-150 US dollars) but if you take care of them, they're worth every penny.

@vidguy Thats a load of bunk. Taking the time to draw a stick figure and build off it is NOT the lazy way, unless you get off on some weird machismo of drawing completely freehand. Drawing a stickfigure is the best way to plot out a figure because you do it solely through gestures and instinct rather than detail. Unless you've got years of GOOD drawings to your name you'll still need the stick figure to get something good.

it's crazy to think that on bill's drawing the right side of his box outline goes inwards and then back outwards, because he was moving his arm to avoid the brush on the page. thats just a weird improve freedom i could never have in my work.
