It's amazing to see the differences between Romita and Kubert. How Romita seems to have everything planned out precisely and there is no wasted motion. And then you have Kubert which seems scattered and frantic but comes out beautiful and dynamic in the end!

Man, I wanna draw like that one day! I've been drawing superheroes since I was two, so I'm mostly self taught, but watching all the greats draw like Jim Lee, Jack Kirby, John Buscema and Todd McFarlane has really taken me a long way in the past two years! Keep up the good work comic artists!

@@matthewfriend2230 yeah, I went to school with John jr and my grandfather used to be in the comic business coloring the prints of the pages that the greats like jack kirby Gil Kane and John sr did. Ya know in the old comic book when you look close enough you see those dots? Yeah my grandfather worked on some prints that where sold in NYC.

I actually write him a very brief letter in early 1982. A few month later in spring. While in Marine boot camp I received a letter back from him. To my surprise ith a small spidey head sketch on it. We reconnected again in spring of 86. Then over many years we'd reconnected.

the second "weird mean looking Batman" was being drawn by the late JOE KUBERT (whom founded the Kubert School Of Graphic Art in Dover NJ). Joe designed that Batman for DC's "Just Imagine" with Stan Lee back in 2002!

I think the ultimate key to drawing muscles is simplicity. When I try to squeeze is lots of detail into an arm, it doesn't work. Ya'know, with all the ripples and stuff. Once you learn how to draw simply but effectively, your drawings will soar in greatness!

man, they each used several brands of pens, of different thicknesses. most art stores have a huge selection, just get like 5 or 6 different ones from thin to thick.

@Urbanmaniac111 , There are many different types of pencils, and pens that artists, comic/or other, use. Generally, I have seen comic artists use india ink brushes and pens. I have always used Pitt pens, and brushes. Micron and prismacolor also make good, fine point pens, sometimes used in inking. Sharpies can be used, but they are bad for archival purposes. Pencils are generally artists discretion. Some use a soft pencil, or 2b, others use harder pencils that appear lighter on the page.

Romita is using a Tombo ABT brush pen-- it's a marker with a flexible tip on one end and a hard tip on the other. Made in Japan. Romita is awesome.

The Pen John Romita is using in this video is a TOMBOW Double-Brush tipped marker pen. They have them on amazon and on a website called BLUE LINE PRO. Just google BLUE LINE PRO and when you get there, run the name of the pen through the website's search engine. You'll find the very pen John Romita is using in the video. Good Luck!

Anybody know the name of that Ink Pen that John Romita is using on the Spiderman drawing? I've never seen a fountain pen like that one before. He doesn't have to dip it in ink and he can be a little rough on the point and it doesn't break. Amazing!

It's an artist pen, with a brush tip. You can pick one up at your art supply store for a few dollars. And they are the best!

I am only 11 years old and comic books have always inspired me to draw fascinating characters (including the Hulk) and teach me new techniques that modern (and old) artists use a'lot.
