It's amazing to see the differences between Romita and Kubert. How Romita seems to have everything planned out precisely and there is no wasted motion. And then you have Kubert which seems scattered and frantic but comes out beautiful and dynamic in the end!

also don’t forget how many (maybe 1000) times John drew Spidey, its in his blood. If I were to ask him to draw something out of the ordinary, maybe he would do it a bit more loose like Joe did

I've been watching all three parts of this montage for years and I never get tired of it, especially the first part with Jazzy Johnny pencilling and INKING Spider-Man in front of your eyes.

Man, I wanna draw like that one day! I've been drawing superheroes since I was two, so I'm mostly self taught, but watching all the greats draw like Jim Lee, Jack Kirby, John Buscema and Todd McFarlane has really taken me a long way in the past two years! Keep up the good work comic artists!

The way Johnny draws Spider man, Still has me in Awe today! I wish in my lifetime I could have met him! Would have done anything to him him draw me a Spidey! A legend is gone in my eyes! Loved anything he did!❤️❤️😩😢😢

@@matthewfriend2230 yeah, I went to school with John jr and my grandfather used to be in the comic business coloring the prints of the pages that the greats like jack kirby Gil Kane and John sr did. Ya know in the old comic book when you look close enough you see those dots? Yeah my grandfather worked on some prints that where sold in NYC.

Why would anyone thumbs down on this? Too sedate a video? No annoying and intrusive loud music? Incapable of recognizing the simple but profound act of a human being creating something from nothing? This is one of the best youtube videos I have seen, and it says more than many hyperactive attention deficient brains can cope with!

So beautiful getting to watch John romita draw Spider-Man. And Joe kubert style is so awesome the way it figures gesturing and shaded he really packs some action into it and it's dramatic even without a story to go with it

I like how Romita, just does the straight up drawing in light strokes, than he just goes to darkening it, he doesn't even sketch them which is also cool

I think it's so incredible to see Kubert not even bother to pencil his idea and go straight into inks. I guess if you've been doing this most of your life, you build up a good bit of confidence:P

I actually write him a very brief letter in early 1982. A few month later in spring. While in Marine boot camp I received a letter back from him. To my surprise ith a small spidey head sketch on it. We reconnected again in spring of 86. Then over many years we'd reconnected.

the second "weird mean looking Batman" was being drawn by the late JOE KUBERT (whom founded the Kubert School Of Graphic Art in Dover NJ). Joe designed that Batman for DC's "Just Imagine" with Stan Lee back in 2002!

I can't believe I get to watch one of my main artist heroes and Inspirations, John Romita, draw one of my favorite heroes, Spider-Man! I was begging money off my dad, my biggest hero, to buy Spider-Man comics drawn by Romita when I was 5 years old! Plus Joe Kubert is on here too? It's too good

Interesting that Romita Spidey’s eyes have gotten larger over time, whereas someone like Bagley has drawn them smaller and smaller as the years have gone by. Weird how that goes lol

I think the ultimate key to drawing muscles is simplicity. When I try to squeeze is lots of detail into an arm, it doesn't work. Ya'know, with all the ripples and stuff. Once you learn how to draw simply but effectively, your drawings will soar in greatness!

man, they each used several brands of pens, of different thicknesses. most art stores have a huge selection, just get like 5 or 6 different ones from thin to thick.

there needs to be WAY more of these kind of videos. Where you can actually hear the pencil, rather than background music. And the fact that it's not sped up 19209310293 times is always nice too.

@Urbanmaniac111 , There are many different types of pencils, and pens that artists, comic/or other, use. Generally, I have seen comic artists use india ink brushes and pens. I have always used Pitt pens, and brushes. Micron and prismacolor also make good, fine point pens, sometimes used in inking. Sharpies can be used, but they are bad for archival purposes. Pencils are generally artists discretion. Some use a soft pencil, or 2b, others use harder pencils that appear lighter on the page.

Romita is using a Tombo ABT brush pen-- it's a marker with a flexible tip on one end and a hard tip on the other. Made in Japan. Romita is awesome.

In fact Romita uses two different inking pens, the 1st is the Sakura and the 2nd is the dual Tombow, brush tip and felt tip double end

Very interesting to see how John is rotating his canvas to adjust it to his most comfortable position. He knows he has more dexterity doing vertical lines.

The Pen John Romita is using in this video is a TOMBOW Double-Brush tipped marker pen. They have them on amazon and on a website called BLUE LINE PRO. Just google BLUE LINE PRO and when you get there, run the name of the pen through the website's search engine. You'll find the very pen John Romita is using in the video. Good Luck!

one of the biggest parts of making it look good seems to be shading, with dark and light patches.

Anybody know the name of that Ink Pen that John Romita is using on the Spiderman drawing? I've never seen a fountain pen like that one before. He doesn't have to dip it in ink and he can be a little rough on the point and it doesn't break. Amazing!

It's an artist pen, with a brush tip. You can pick one up at your art supply store for a few dollars. And they are the best!

I am only 11 years old and comic books have always inspired me to draw fascinating characters (including the Hulk) and teach me new techniques that modern (and old) artists use a'lot. But I have a few qeustions though: 1. Can Sakura of America pens be purchased at local art stores or only the website 2. What would be the best "tool" to use for drawing?

I know this video has been up here for awhile now but I'm pretty sure the pen John is using is a Sakura Pigma,they don't look like that anymore most likely due to Sakura updating the pens look ,Jet Pens have them
