I love sitting around the fire pit just before dark and watch the aerial maneuvers of the bats flying around catching skeeters. Bats are getting fewer and fewer every year. I once cut down a dying tree and when I was cutting it up, I saw it was hollow and the sawdust was moving. I stopped sat down and watched 17 bats crawl out of that tree and fly away. Felt bad. Sixty Two ! That is awesome.

@CruzesLouisianaOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Hey man thanks for stopping by...I've heard that once ya get wasps its hard to get rid of em...if you use spray evidently the bats will never go in there...or a long time. I'm really not sure
@DEADorALIVEkayaking4 жыл бұрын
I put my bat house up 3 or 4 years ago and was convinced until this evening that I had installed a wasp house...that's all I ever knew was in there. No spray, but I'd occasionally beat on the post with a 2x4 when it was real cool in the mornings...the wasps would come out, but it was too cold for them to fly, so they'd fall to the ground, where I gleefully stomped every one that came out. That went on for sometime, until I stopped seeing wasps up there. Tonight, though, I happened to be looking up at the house and DOZENS of bats came pouring out! I think maybe I have Little Brown bats...they weren't nearly the size of those coming out of Cruze's house. I'm going to order another house and put it on the opposing side of the post this winter, so when they reach capacity in that house, they can expand into the other!

I’m curious, how tall is that post you have the houses on? I’ve had a bat box on a tree for a few years now and only one resident that I’ve known of.
