To all the hardworking volunteers of the Texas Battleship Foundation, thank you! Y'all have truly outdone yourselves, the restoration looks absolutely fantastic! While so many in our nation are trying to sweep away our history you have stepped up to preserve it for generations to come! Just another one of many reasons why I'm proud to call myself a Texan. God bless and Come on Texas! 🇺🇲⚓⚓

A few years ago I played World of Warships and got USS Texas to play. I did not know very much about the ship at the time and was really surprised that it was so blue. That game is *very* accurate with color schemes of historical ships and sure enough I see this vid and there is the blue just like in the game. Cool to see history come to life.

@@ThirdCoastDrone So much has been invested in restoring the Texas that I cannot imagine wood decking not being replaced too. So, my questions are whether real or synthetic wood will be used since synthetic wood might be a more durable, less maintenance intensive, option. Also, if selected, would real wood decking be painted in authentic (US Navy paint code "20-B") Deck Blue paint?...or would it be left in its natural lighter, and therefore cooler, shade for being exposed in the hot Texas sun?

She give you an idea what the battleships of Pearl harbour looked like. So many picture them as grey, like post war battleships, when in truth many of them were the same blue as the Texas. I look forward to seeing her with her decking all fixed up. Should look sharp with the fresh blue.
@andrewreynolds49493 ай бұрын
The all-blue paint as seen here was a wartime scheme. In 1941 most battleships were in the Measure 1 dark grey scheme (though Texas was not)

Can anyone confirm the paint color? It seems reasonable to believe it's Navy Blue 5-N to represent the MS21 camo she ended the war in. It seems deeper, more saturated then what I'd expect MS21 to appear. I wonder how closely the paint color was matched. Like USS North Carolina, where they took some liberties changing Dull Black to a dark blue for appearance purposes.
@VKiera3 ай бұрын
Their Facebook has confirmed its navy blue, horizontal surfaces will be deck blue eventually. The Texas crew's goal is to make her look as much like her late 1945 appearance as possible at the end of the war.
@tim_davidson63443 ай бұрын
Yes, I noticed that the North Carolina was incorrectly painted in camouflage Measure (MS) 33 instead of the correct MS 32. The most obvious difference between the two measures is that MS 33 used Navy Blue instead of MS 32's Dull Black. It's hard to say if the Navy Blue paint being used on Texas has been formulated correctly based only on observation. The Texas paint is new and the North Carolina's may have faded somewhat with age. Also, lighting (time of day, shadowing, weather conditions, etc.) can affect the paint's appearance.
@samstewart48073 ай бұрын
wow! I hope they get rid of all the gun pods clogging up the deck. They were ww2 additions. Removing those would make walking all around the ship much easier.
@tim_davidson63443 ай бұрын
While they do contribute to deck "clogging", I prefer that the ship look as historically accurate as possible during her WWII years of service. Also, kids are going to want to sit in the 40mm gunners' seats. I was wondering if replica 20mm and 40mm guns could be manufactured and installed at a "reasonable" cost for even more realism.

The difference seems to be that the current paint is glossy while true WW2-era Measure 21 was matte. Glossy finishes hold up to the elements much better and are far easier to clean. Same reason why most restored WW2 aircraft have glossy finishes as well.
