Thanks Max, appreciate all your tips and clues for the new GoldWing. Keep them coming as you become aware. 👍🏻

Thanks for that observation. I have take the cover off for a few installs under the seat, and getting the cover back on that side was always a chore. Now that you pointed that out I can follow your suggestion and warning, and make that a non-issue.

Great comments on the Battery Tender installation. On my 2018 Goldwing my charging adapter is fused @ 2 amps and I ran the wiring under and back of the battery bracket forward to the frame. My Battery Tender is a maintainer not a charger. I never install anything on the Battery Post unless it's fused protected. I had a 2005 Goldwing for about 8 years. This new bike is a steep learning course for me.

I didn’t use any of the crinkle tube but I routed it away from anything sharp. A simple placement of some Gorilla tape over the sharp edges of the battery hold down strap will mitigate that as a potential cutting issue.

I unbolted the battery hold down and ran the cable between the battery and the bracket. I then ran the cable over the top of the fuse box. I can pull out the cable without removing the side cover.
@Traxxion4 жыл бұрын
Just be certain the cable isn't grinding on the sharp edges of the hold down bracket when you push and pull the cable.
@bradleygunderson97554 жыл бұрын
@@Traxxion With the cable running over the top of the smooth battery and under the hold down bracket which is also smooth I don't think there will be a problem. Also used the plastic tubing where it goes under the strap. Getting to the plugin is a no brainer with it running over the fuse block. Just reach inside the front of the side cover and pull it out.

Thanks Max, btw, what kind of highway footrests were those?
@Traxxion4 жыл бұрын
They are called Beachcomber, I believe, by Show Chrome or Big Bike Parts. Not 100% sure.

Thanks for the info re the terminals. Most riders fit this sort of accessory I would reaaly love manufacturers to work with the likes of Optimate and build purpose made connection points into the structure of bikes. How nice would it be to have a connection all ready to use in one of the panels or panniers
@Traxxion5 жыл бұрын
The manufacturers are missing an even bigger bus... they should just sell their own chargers. Honda should have a Hondaline battery charger. If they were smart... haha... it would have a proprietary connector...
@mikejacks19395 жыл бұрын
@@Traxxion I guess the likes of the Hondaline product will be from a manufacturer such as Oxford Optimate but re-branded. Big companies say they listen to customer feedback, I wonder how much of that is actually true
@Traxxion5 жыл бұрын
@@mikejacks1939 since the new Goldwing is the exact opposite of what everyone I know wanted, I would say they don't listen at all.

Would it be smart to wrap the battery hold down bracket in duct tape to remove the sharp edge risk to a short? Am thinking this is a good idea.
@Traxxion3 жыл бұрын
I put the cables in krinkle wrap.

Max do the 2018 and up goldwings have battery issues with there bikes.Not starting.
@Traxxion2 жыл бұрын
Yes, some early ones had defective batteries. There is also another problem with just "flicking" the power knob to off... it doesn't shut the bike down. You need to turn it to the left and HOLD it for 3 seconds or so to shut the bike down completely.

is it possible to run the pigtail through the back of the saddle bag (drill a hole) and have the connector hanging inside the bag? just leave the door open while charging?
@Traxxion2 жыл бұрын
I don't know why not... but I also don't know why you would. I wouldn't add a hole to a water tight space unless it was absolutely necessary. I have seen a nice port you can buy and plug into like a USB port that you can wire to the sidecover. That's the best setup I have seen.
@danpeppers55642 жыл бұрын
@@Traxxion you can make the hole water tight, I thought that was a given and wouldn't need to be spelled out. Plus if it's in the side cover, each time you remove the side cover, you have to disconnect the wire to the bat. If it's inside the saddle bag, it would be rare you would have to disconnect it.

Could you please show us how to completely remove the battery?

Disconnect ground, then positive, then remove the strap. Battery comes right out.
