In this video I go step by step in the process of transferring DeWalt DC600 Cordless Screwdriver Battery to 18650 cell.
I really hope this can come handy to someone who has time, tools and desire to do the same and bring the screwdriver back to the game for just a few bucks in expenses.

Before repeating this project please take note of the following: 1. The polarity of the cell in the video is wrong. Please, install 18650 cell in reversed way. 2. Better BMS with charge and discharge protection can be found in the description. The one used in the video is not providing good discharge protection.

great. i was thinking to something like that myself. just i was unable to open the battery. you showed how easy it is to "open" with dremel. and your implementation is much more beautiful than what i was planning - i was thinking that i will glue the charger module somewhere outside but you even found enough space inside. and you even added some glue as a 'fiber optics' for the status LEDs - wonderful!

It is an excellent cordless screwdriver. with two speeds. but it was better to change the battery to high capacity nimh. and keeps its original fast charger.

Be careful folks. In this video the polarity is swapped. NEVER solder on li-ion cells, use a spot welder to weld nickel plate on it or order them with nickel tags welded on it. This does not protect battery to over discharge so charge when you notice loss of power.

Hi @sergejmartirosian513. Thank you for your professional comment. This is one of my first projects and I agree with all your notes. I will re-do this video with the correct polarization as the current one affecting the front LED light. I will also use TC4056A BMS with Over-discharge and Overcharge protection. There I will suggest the use of nickel stripes spot welded 18650. I will be happy if you check the new video once it is ready and give your opinion. Can I write back here in these comments when the video is published and before this one is deleted?

Won’t it be lower voltage with only one 18650?

Thanks for your reply @emmettturner9452. The genuine DeWalt battery for this model is 3.6V. Standard voltage for 18650 is 3.7V (0.1V more than the original battery).

@@recyclestein thanks. I assumed the cells were in series since most of their gyroscope screwdrivers are marketed as “Lithium Ion 8V Max” batteries.

You are welcome @@emmettturner9452 ! I know what model you have in mind. Unfortunately there are no "8V Max" battery options for DeWalt DC600 on DeWalt website. All "8V Max" batteries fits for 7V, 12V and higher voltage models which using different connector bays. The only option for now is to buy Ni-MH from ebay for very high price (around 40€-50€) and these are not genuine. This was the reason for creating the video with DIY battery here.
