I just did this on my mom’s 1970 VW Beetle because I got tired of manually disconnecting the battery while uninstalling the back seat in the process. It did take a bit of work, but I got it done in one day. All I did was rearrange the battery to face backwards, put rubber hose guards on the terminal wires to avoid the risk of a battery shortage and fire, and buy a ground terminal wire to accompany the kill switch. All I’ll have to do now is install battery terminal protectors like you did. One less step in disconnecting the battery now.

Hey man, Good work on the kill switch. I've just finished putting one in my 63 beetle. Just a couple of things. 1. Make sure you strap the battery down. 2. When I was all finished and done before I put the seat back in, I cut some 3mm rubber mat that went across the top and down two sides. Now, there is no way of anything shorting out. Even if a larger passenger sits on top of the battery. ✌️ Peace

YOU the MAN!!!!! I didn't do this mod cause I had nowhere to get 4 gauge wire with connectors. Use battery cables from Walmart, duh.

The previous owner replaced the battery before I purchased mine. He installed the new battery in a plastic battery box used for like a trailer. It fits under the seat and I ran a battery tender out the edge of the carpet. Some kinda kill switch is on my list.

Im going to do this on my beetle. Feel like the kick stands are too weak for the switcy but i like the idea of using it in that location. Might strengthen it like you did. Noce work

I just did so with mine and so far, this kill switch is definitely worth it.

You should color code the wires correctly.

why does this car have a red cable going to the ground? Is the ground actually a positive?
@chriscraft77022 Жыл бұрын
that’s how I got it.. both cables were black originally. Someone put a red cable on ground

I installed a kill switch on my bug and for some reason the cables get hot, any idea of why that's happening? Thanks.
@chriscraft7702211 ай бұрын
resistance causes heat you have a bad connection.. you need to take one cable off at a time and clean both ends until it stops getting hot.. were the getting hot before the kill switch? you might have a bad switch. Check resistance on the switch

I found the problem, I had one cable unplugged right behind the fan, so I put it back together and that solved the problem, thanks.. @@chriscraft77022

Are you connecting it to positive wires? If so, don't.
