Confused. If you're using a laptop and the BMS_test application already to monitor the batteries...do you even need this gizmo? Doesn't using the application/laptop connection update the batteries software? The BMS_test monitoring software is "alright" ...good amount of useful information, but needs modernization. It looks like a college kids Excel project from the 1990s.

That’s neat and I can see a use for it instead of lugging around a laptop. Can the laptop software also bring a battery out of a soft brick? Suggestion, instead of just waiting 10 seconds at the end it might be nice to see the updater blinking green LED to go solid green indicating that it has finished and the update firmware and firmware on the battery match. Just a random thought.

Nope. You can actually do this with a Wifi Bridge Extender or a repeater.

@@wadebrewer7212 Not THAT simple, but most Wifi Bridge Adapters come with instructions and you can find @KZbin Vids with people demonstrating How to (fill in the blank), etc.- But I actually ordered the Updater shown in this Video (it was FREE from Signature Solar (for me, since I had purchased batteries from them before). I guess it worked, but I have 2 EG4 batteries - each are different. One is a LifeP0wer 48v, the other is one of their "LL" Series (48v)- The updater only worked on the "LL" battery (yes, I unplugged all COM cables and set the DIP Switch to ZERO. ONE THING I CAN'T FIND INSTRUCTIONS ON from @eg4electronics IS, HOW TO UPDATE DIFFERENT SERIES OF EG4 BATTERIES (that are hooked together via COM in Parallel) ANYONE??

Anything for the new PowerPro battery? Signature Solar sent me the cable and I have followed the video and the printed procedure for firmware update and cannot get it to work. My two powerpro batteries will not talk to each other.

What is the benefit to updating the battery? Will it work for the EG4-LL? Will it fix the state of charge (battery is 53+ volts but screen shows 66% charge)?

You have one of those too? I've got six EG4LLs. They're all at 53.2V. 5 of them say they're 100%, the 6th says it's at 24.

Assuming all batteries have at least 10 deep cycles on them, charge them all to full together (53V = full, ignore the SOC % readout) and hit the reset key on the front of each battery while they are idle, on, and not charging/discharging.

@@trashlordxx1893 I don't think mine have ever been deeply discharged. The lowest they've ever been is about 80%. Is that a problem?

@feetachemail could be a problem potentially, nothing wrong with trying though. The worst that will happen is nothing will be corrected until they are deep cycled! If they are all new I would just deep cycle 7 - 10 times and not worry about the SOC % readout until after.

@@trashlordxx1893 can you explain what "Deep Cycle" means and how to do it. I've had my batteries down to about 60% and then the next day the sun recharges them.

My issue is bms allowed a cell to charge to 3.412 V, and now it is perma stuck in an overvolt MOS fault state with no way to override the fault to discharge it below the required 3.4 v on that cell....so I am currently stuck with running this bms management to just use up enough power for that fault to clear and discharge the battery to a usable state again....please make a way for it to alter the cmos to override that fault temporarily incase the bms messes up and allows it to brick itself like they have for me....two batteries....both bricked because I can not clear that fault by simply discharging the battery a small bit....

Hoping the fault will clear once the cell falls back below 3.4 v on each battery, You really need a better way to clear/temp disable faults to bring issues like these batteries back to life...

Flipping breakers and hitting the reset do nothing to clear that fault to allow for discharge....both of those should have worked.

Over voltage protection did work well, just be nice to be able to stop charging and correct the situation quicker.

Over voltage was my fault to be fair, was trying to equalize them and pushed the specs to their limits, will not go that high in the future. 58.4v was just to high, live and learn.

Allow Cmos to not fault over voltage below 3.420 for 180 seconds to allow you to put a load on it to discharge if possible after a reset.

Tried this on our 48V LL's and didn't work. They sent us the little gizmo,and we followed all the instructions, watched this video -multiple times, tried multiple times to do the update, and all we get is a red slow blinking light after the update completes. Batteries don't restart or anything.. Troubleshooting guide in the misley 5x7 instructions says bad cable or switches set wrong, and something else, can't remember the last one. But, we tried different cables, double checked the dip switches, still no love, won't update. I'm pretty fed up with the EG4 products and Signature Solar, regret having embarked on this project using their products. We are stuck now.

When I connected my batteries, the instructions were upside down and backwards. You're going to have to figure out your dip switches by using the test software to see what address they are at. Once you figure that out, set them accordingly.
