I got a GreenWorks 80v battery operated pole saw and I gotta say, for work around my yard it just does a fantastic job. I have a big yard and the previous owner let their yard just get nasty (not their fault, they are in their 90's) so I have a lot of vines, growth, and etc. The battery lasts as long as I feel like going for, I can't cut logs with it but DUH.. but I still do it anyway. Really happy with it and I'm hoping yard work keeps using batteries because I think we're finally at the point where they are up to the job. Glad to see you enjoyed it, surprised the 40v was able to last for your entire job

I have always used gas powered tools but a destroyed some of them with the gas you get these days. I was shocked at how well the battery last for these tools. I just blew all the sand off my driveway today with the battery powered leaf blower. Thanks for dropping by..

I got this unit yesterday, used it for 1-1/2 hours today, cut tons of high 16-foot limbs with no issues, and still had 1 bar of battery left. This is a game changer and for $225 is a bargain. The battery life outlasted me by far. It will bog down when the chain gets pinched with wood fibers so be mindful that it's not a battery issue but a keep clean and spin the chain backwards to dislodge the stringy twigs. It does use a lot of oil but just use 10-w40 cheap oil and it works just fine.

I can dig ryobi stuff because it's affordable and usually works for what I need. Non commercial around the yard stuff. I bought a 40v leaf blower works incredible for the price. Going to grab a 40v string trimmer for the mother in law to use.

I'm glad I stumbled on this video. Just bought me one, should be here tomorrow. It's good to see reviews where the tool is actually being used. LOL. I am so tired of sifting through so called "reviews" when all they do is take it out of the box and never actually show the tool in use. "Unboxing" videos, in my opinion, are completely useless and pointless, but to each their own I guess. Anyway, thank you for showing the tool in action.
@BackyardMaine
@BackyardMaine Жыл бұрын
My pleasure.. I think the tool works great. The only issue is the chain oil container is small so be sure to keep that topped off. The battery will last through two or three oil fills. Also the chain gets loose easily but its really easy to tighten.

@@BackyardMaine I actually purchased the electric corded on. I got a heck of a deal on it, brand new in the box, $44.99. I won't be using it every day, so the cord is not that big of a deal. I couldn't pass it up for the price. A few days ago, they were having Black Friday Spring Sales . . . Given that It has a "factory blemish" and the sale, that's why it was so cheap. But thank you for the tips, I will be sure to keep my on those things. It's really nice to have someone like you pass along your findings and experience with using the tool. Thank you

Actually snagged one of these today at a pawnshop for 75 bucks tax included. Everything in the box except the instructions. Even came with about a pint of chain oil. Gave it a quick test and it does indeed cut really well. Did have to tighten the chain a tad, but even with no instructions, easy enough to figure out.
@BackyardMaine
@BackyardMaine 3 жыл бұрын
That's a great deal. Keep an eye on the chain oil level because it runs out pretty quickly. I add oil three times on per fully charged battery. It's a very useful tool. Good luck.

You can fix your handle issue by moving it up to the top of the next section. Works especially well for me because occasionally I also add a 3rd section for a bit of extra length, and that position provides for far better leverage.

Great review on this tool! FYI your trees will heal better if you limb the branch off before you do the cut near the base. Can't recall what that process is called, the instructions did mention it though.

I got the 18v one last week and hell i think i cut a tree that was like 6-7 inches thick to pieces with it 😅😂 Cut down like 4 o 5 trees with it last friday with no problems... Oil doesnt leak at all and i think i refilled it like 2-3 times. I know its for pruning small branches but im getting rid of some pretty thick trees with it.

I've got the same saw, but I must offer the one critique that the cuts are a bit ragged. As you see in this video, if you don't do the three cut method, the weight of the limb will tear away at the bark just before the limb falls at the end of the cut. I use the three cut method, and for some ragged cuts, I come back with my pole/arbor saw and clean them up, now that I'm cutting back a 1" stump, rather than a 10' (heavy) branch.

Everyone hate on ryobi so much it’s annoying. I get it, it’s not Milwaukee or dewalt or whatever but let me tell you. I’ve had 2 ryobi drills in the last almost 2 years and the first one I have still works. The 1 speed started clicking and speed 2 still worked fine but about 3 years ago I upgraded. The green ryobi drill replaced the blue and yellow one from 2007. I dropped the 2007 drill off a 6 foot ladder on concrete multiple times. It’s an 18v it out last my dewalt 14v I had at the time. Anyways I digress, I bought an electric ryobi expand it weed whacker 40v, a couple weeks back, because after having a 2 yr old 4 stroke weed eater I can’t get started. Pull and pul for 15 mins and nothing. Anyways, the ryobi whacker works fine for my front and back yard and edging. I’m looking at getting this pole saw just to trim small branches and honestly I think it looks pretty damn good.

Just wanted to ask a question. I have a regular gas powered chainsaw and you need to get a running start before you start cutting. I notice you just put the saw on top of the limb then you pull the trigger. Is that what they recommend? Couldn't find it in the manual.
@BackyardMaine
@BackyardMaine 3 ай бұрын
It’s going to cut best and the battery will last longer if the chain is spinning at full speed just before making contact. I did want to cut everything on the way to the branch so I might have waited too long.

I have some Holly Trees that are about 12' tall and need to be pruned from growing taller. Is this overkill to trim simple Holly type (smaller 1/4" dia.) branches? I think this looks like it would work fine, but thought to reach out.

I think the hedge trimmer would be better for that job. 1/4” is pretty small and I think the saw would shred them more than cut through clean.

First time I used this tool I was very pleased with the performance. I hung it in my shed with the little hook at the base of the saw housing. I didn't have to use it again for a few weeks. When I needed it again the chain oil had leaked out and soaked the foam rubber on the extention handle. Any ideas how to keep this from happening or repairing it.
@BackyardMaine
@BackyardMaine 2 жыл бұрын
I have had several chainsaws over the years (just three now) but the oil leaking out is a common problem. For that reason I always store them flat on the ground so that if they do leak nothing gets damaged. The only true fix I have found is to clean them well before storage. I'm no expert but that's what I do.
