Favorite hunting knives in no particular order: case full size trapper, case fixed blade hunting knife, full size griptillian with the spydee-hole / sheeps foot blade, a custom fixed blade that an elk guide gave me some time ago, and a havalon (the one you couldn’t think of with the disposable blades). havalon’s prob the best / easiest to use, but I like the others for a combination of sentimental reasons and traditionalism. Just got a small benchmade crooked river. Looking forward to trying it.

Unfortunately my family doesn’t hunt. I’m a first generation hunter and so I never got to go with a grandpa or dad or anything like that. I’m learning by my lonesome lol I don’t have kids and don’t plan on having any so I hope to leave the hunting tools I’ve acquired to a nephew or niece who shows interest later on. Regardless, the knife I use is a larger fixed blade that I made. And I use a hatchet that I rehandled and made a mask for to split deer sternums...if you can’t find the perfect knife, make it! Love the vids keep me coming!:)

The zippro (the knife you said is backwards) if for gutting bigger game. You would make a small slit at the bottom of the rib cage, then slip that under the skin, and slide it towards the groin area to open up the animal

In my hunting backpack I have a multi tool and a Mora of some short(currently the 546). I use the Buck 110 and the Mora get uses the most, I tend to uses the Mora more just because it's easier to clean.

I always gravitate to smaller fixed blades. Big difference between hunting and bushcrafting and they require different sized knives. Although, I do like the combo of a small fixed blade and a small or mid size hatchet, which to me is better than a large bushcrafting knife.

I thought it looked like one but I think it is actually supposed to be for grabbing your stuff like Jeff said. The picture was a tree stand but it is basically a repurposed squid jig
@TheAngryDracolope
@TheAngryDracolope 5 жыл бұрын
@@BUSHCRAPPING Take it from me it isn't even a repurposed squid jig, it has just been repackaged and re-marketed as a gear retriever. You can clearly see the joint that allows the lure to wobble like a wounded fish which will entice the squid to strike. You certainly wouldn't want to attempt to use a squid jig as a gear retriever as the tines are rather sharp due to being designed to pierce the tough flesh of a squid, and you would in fact damage anything you tried to retrieve with it.

My top brands are silver stag and buck. I like blade lengths no longer than 6 inches, any longer and they become cumbersome. Most people use their hunting knives to either just gut the animal or they use it to completely butcher it if they don’t have a butcher knife set. If your just gutting the animal too long of a blade and it gets caught up inside of it and can do more damage than being helpful.

No it’s not to big, I mean as long as you can control the blade good enough to not over penetrate so you don’t hit the shit sack or other organs then you should be fine. I find it that the size of your hunting knife is more of a personal preference though over an 8 inch blade can make it harder imo. Most people don’t process the whole deer anyways and pay to get it done so all they have to do is gut it but I’ve gutted a deer with a 10 inch machete once and it work just fine especially since it had a lot of belly. I use the tops Mohawk hunter usually when I’m out hunting bc it’s lightweight has a 5 inch blade and is just a great all around knife.
