After watching this so many times, I love the parallel between Anduin and Arthas shown in the alliance end cinematic where Anduin is walking down the same hall where Arthas did except instead of celebration, it's damaged and battered. Anduin looks up at the sky in the same spot where Arthas did back in WC3. Just beautiful

Do you think the reason Anduin muzzled Genn with that "enough" shout was because Genn called Sylvanas filth(y), referring to what she is, an undead, as he had done countless times before? Anduin has this recent experience in understanding what the forsaken are and not discriminating, something that Genn was involved in. To me Anduin is just tired of Genn losing his temper and insulting the forsaken for what they are. That "enough" says it all in my book... And I think it's the first time Anduin actually shouts like that, he definitely sounded like Varian. Or, to take this in a simpler manner, the shout was just intended to end the squabbling :p

That's the exact reason. Anduin does see the Forsaken as "People" unlike most of the living races. But he does believe that Sylvanas has no salvation, and that the Forsaken are just under a cruel ruleship.

Your idea was actually spot on. She was testing Anduin all along and wanted to make him stronger. She needs him in order to achieve her goals. Even now in Shadowlands, she could easily break his will and turn him into her slave, but again, she offered him a choice and tried to convince him.

Anyone else notice at the start of the cinematic how closely it resembles Arthas' betrayal cinematic in Warcraft 3? The music kicks in almost instantly with the exact same two camera angles it follows in the Warcraft 3 one? Glad to see someone love Jaina as much as I do. I've been looking forward to a story focus on her and Anduin ever since MoP. So I'm really enjoying all of it right now! As for the theory about the Sylvanas smirks: I would really love that, but honestly, I just think there's only one reason for it: It makes her look cool. You know, the arrogant smile of every villain ever, whenever they feel superior or after they've done something bad. It's most likely just that, in both the BfA cinematic as well as in the end here.

Sylvanas gets amusement from the anger, sorrow, reactions of others. You see this with Summermoon in Darkshore and a few times with Anduin. Sylvanas likes when they fight back, keep trying ... makes breaking them all the sweeter. Sylvanas has more in common with Arthas than she wants to admit. When she does, we may see a redemption/sacrifice arch ... and her becoming a tragic savior.

Maybe Sylvanas has a weird boy crush on Anduin. She did have the "I'm liking what I'm seeing" look/smirk after Anduin's mass ress/heal in the BFA cinematic. 🤔 Good theory tho it does seem far fetched at this point in time. I'm eager to see how the story plays out. As much as I'm happy that Sylvanas turned out to be a cray burn-it-all evil lady (as I've been touting since she ravaged my home and killed my Prince), I'm still hoping there's more to it than meets the eye. It'd be a boring ending otherwise. On the other hand, I'm super duper happy that Jaina turned out to be super duper badass. In more ways than one. Garrosh gave into hero worship; all that he did was to prove that he was a hero of the Horde. Everything became a deed of greatness under Garrosh. But Sylvanas doesn't care about any of that. She has integrated some of Garrosh' traits, but she's also learned from him. Honor is actually bad for the Horde. Thrall literally handicapped Orgrimmar deliberately, because Thrall wanted to teach orcs how to work to achieve greatness. Orgrimmar has become an import hub for this reason; it is dependent on import. And therefore, it is dependent on good relations with the surrounding area. But what if good relations stop? Like with the night elves? What if the Alliance attempt to siege Orgrimmar? Then Orgrimmar is compromised. It is too hard to defend and it's not able to function without imports. Sylvanas knows all this and rather than seeing this as a reason to be cautious, she sees this as a reason to be ahead of the curve of everyone else. In the novels, it is clear that she actually has come to appreciate what honor is. She appreciates great warriors, even Saurfang, even Thrall. But she also knows that honor and hero worship and martyrdom have crippled the Horde. And not that Azerite is here, war is inevitable. Greymane will eventually come for the Undercity. If Greymane comes for the Undercity, the orcs, tauren and blood elves would have to defend the Undercity. Which would mean that Silvermoon is compromised or that the night elves can attempt to assault Darnassus. The moment that the Horde is reactive, is the moment that the Horde has lost. So Sylvanas has to stay ahead at any moment. When Saurfang fails to kill Malfurion, Darnassus is lost. Sylvanas wanted to maintain honor. She gave Saurfang explicit orders to protect the honor of the Horde and take Teldrassil honorably, so that war could be ended before it could begin. Saurfang failed her in that, which means that, now, the Horde has to play by Sylvanas terms. Now, it's no holds bar war. The Horde has to win or it will be destroyed. It's delicious. Sylvanas gives characters choices every step of the way and each time, they find themselves having to choose the utilitarian option and follow Sylvanas' cold, calculated logic (fueled by Azerite). But it also shows that sometimes that doesn't work in Sylvanas' favor, or the Horde's favor and sometimes, it doesn't go as Sylvanas might have originally wanted. Saurfang chooses to stay behind and die with honor. Sylvanas chose to give Saurfang that choice and Saurfang chose to die. It's delicious and brilliant and I love it.

Sylvanas is playing Anduin. The Alliance suffered heavy losses at both Tel and Undercity compared to the Horde. She's playing on them being vengeful and hateful because those are two states of being she knows well and can capitalize off of.

If you recall during the scenario, the part called 'Blast', if she wanted to kill Anduin she had him dead in her sights and could have easily shot him with a black arrow, but instead shoots a blight wagon. I really can't wait for next week to see how all of this starts to unfold. I still think she's evil as f**k, but it's obvious she's got alot of plans...especially for Anduin.

Perhaps given Bolvar's history with Varian and Andiun, they (Syl and Bol) are building Horde and Alliance for that war. That would make all this morally grey and very interesting.

It just occurred to me, people tend to see Sylvannas' tactics are devious and honor-less (they are, but they are effective), and tend to blame her being an evil undead for it. But when she was guarding the Sunwell from Arthas her main repertoire was inflicting massive casualties to the enemies armies with traps while giving ground to wear them out.

If you fly back to Lordaeron as a holy priest, and suicide in the fog of poison, your passive Spirit of Redemption can be killed repeatedly, thus you will never die unless you cancel the buff on your own. Plus, if you have the revive debuff from the graveyard, you suffer much less damage in the poison which can be easily healed up. Then you will find the elevators are blocked.

5:55 if they are honoring similar laws of warfare as we do, killing an obviously unarmed target that posses no obvious threat or danger is a warcrime by Geneva's convention even if that target is war criminal herself. I think that's the reason Anduin doesn't do it and the rest of them clearly follows his lead. Anduin even addresses it when Genn gets a little heated. Plus she probably could've Banshee herself out of there anyway.

*If* Sylvannas is training Anduin to become stronger, it's not for the reason you're thinking. Not to make the Alliance stronger, but to make the figurehead of the faction seem powerful enough that the rest of his people can lean on him for support. Break that support and everything that it supported will fall.

I can't see her consciously trying to strengthen the factions, but I can see her having a role in saving them down the line in some way. Maybe she will have to do something terrible for it, and we will have to learn that our survival is truly the most important thing, no matter the costs. It would actually give her some depth.

This scene makes me think hard of your theory and the previous scene where sylvanas remember her past while she burns down teldrassil, she could be potentially preparing the young king Anduin, making him not to follow his human predecessor footsteps like arthas did during Warcraft 3. Currently there's no other villains that could be alliance threat than horde, so this could be an interesting way to make Anduin a better leader of alliance.

I totally agree that horde YTers laugh at the Jaina scene and some call it comic as they do that because they don't have a hero as powerful as her (in terms of magic). Bad days for horde for sure. Loved the cinematics.

Sylvannas is seemingly like Kerrigan, the Queen of Blades. Though the Alliance need to rid of her, I think that there is so much more in play here - and I think that she will play a significant role to it. She is just so paradoxical that she both confirms and denies all theories about her and what she is doing.

I don't think Sylvanas is really prepping him, but I do think that this is the old god expansion, and will be revealed in 8.1, at Blizzcon. And I think since Anduin is essentially pure light, Sylvanas will somehow do a self sacrifice to save Anduin, so he can lead the forces of Azeroth against the old gods. That way Blizzard can say she's redeemed.

I think it's a couple of things - when her home was burned she was powerless to stop it from happening and then the Alliance king did NOTHING, and she's seeing this king DO something. And - this could very well be the first she's heard of this, and regrets leaving the Alliance when it seems they needed her most.

Your theory is interesting. Think of this Stlvanas has spent some time in the presence of Arthas as the lich king. She knows the current one may have good intentions but that will not last. Bolth the horde and the alliance will need strong leaders and ones they respect. She could be staging this to make both come to pass. With either Saurfang or Baine as a second choice for the horde warchief.
