I think Hop is a great rival, he isn't a happy-go-lucky rival where everything is amazing. He has actual emotions and there's decent chunks of the game where he's depressed and down. This game really aces the rivals. It manages to have both the cheerful rival (Hop), the disrespectful rival (Bede) and Marnie is kinda like Lillie.

Hop's Character Development throughout Sw/Sh is Amazing, from being the Guy who Wanted to Trump his Brother and Become the Champion, Slowly realizing his irrelevance, and even tried again, but got Crushed by the Person he called his Rival.. Overall, After Hop Loses to Bede Off Screen, I feel like he was slowly going through the 5 stages of grief, but finally accepting it after his defeat in the Stadium.

I love the fact that all that Hop cares about is that he's here only because of you, YOU helped him follow his dream to compete in the Pokemon League, the fact that in this game YOU are the one that was always better makes him the equivalent of the people who kept training to beat their rivals. I was in the stadium during Champion Leon's match with Juno, and when he Dynamaxed Charizard, well, I caught on fire but the camera panned away so it wouldn't show me running around like a madman trying to put myself out. I then went to the pokemon officials to talk about this, and apparently there have been other cases reported with this. They need to put up some sort of safety barrier between us and the pokemon. I still have burn scars all over me, and it hurts.

You know what? I don't care what anyone says: I think Hop is defintely my favourite Rival, and this song is perfect for him. Really does feel like a personal final duel for me!
