Battle Los Angeles is a movie I love because of the unique way it portrays an Alien invasion. The aliens act a lot like a modern military force throughout the movie, dragging their wounded and displaying squad tactics much like the Marines in the movie do unlike most films where they're this hugely inhuman and unknowable force
@Starfleet85552 жыл бұрын
I mean the movie wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either. There are much better films to depict an alien invasion.
@adammathers48792 жыл бұрын
@@Starfleet8555 The difference is this movie did so in a realistic way. It wasn't flashy or incredibly compelling with its plot, but it felt like what one would experience if it actually happened. An alien militarized force lands on earth and begins assaulting cities, and the US military responds.
@jonathanpilcher3372 жыл бұрын
I don't think the alien formations being reminiscent of the us military suddenly makes the movie not dogwater, like it's still pretty par for the course of that whole wave of america being invaded in media during that early 2000s + a few years period of fearmongering
@adammathers48792 жыл бұрын
@@jonathanpilcher337 America being invaded has been a theme since the 1980s with the cold war. This is just a movie about aliens. Don't try to make too many connections. It's cool that the aliens were portrayed realistically. That's what everyone's trying to say.
@user-xsn5ozskwg2 жыл бұрын
@@adammathers4879 I mean, any film that so prominently features the US military exists within the politics of its time and it's undeniable that Battle LA was trying to do the same the Battleship did of "look, we need a big budget to fight da aliens, join the Marines!" It's just about aliens in the same way any other invasion film of a similar vein is.

Honestly the movie wasn't even that bad, it's a B movie schlockfest propaganda film but I mean aliens go boom so it's a good movie to have on if you just want shit blowing up on screen. What sucks is there's actually a bunch of behind the scenes info that actually gives motivation and some insight on the aliens that was never implemented into the film cause the producers were cheap. Long story short the aliens you see in the movie are basically slaves that are sent down by more advanced aliens to attempt to clear the local inhabitants so the ruling class aliens can take all the resources. They're basically sent there to die too cause they don't have a way off planet since all the aircraft are unmanned drones. They expected a sequel that they would of fleshed the aliens out more but clearly that didn't happen lol
@bunbungaming84462 жыл бұрын
Huh, I didn't know that I only saw the film once, and I didn't know if I liked it or not. I was thinking the game was a dumb idea though, cause the point of the movie was that the aliens had a weakness in there armor, and unless you aimed for that curtain part of there body, they wouldn't die.
@gangstalker692 жыл бұрын
@@bunbungaming8446 yeah I randomly saw an interview with the director when it first came out and he basically had to fill in all the gaps. I mean I assume they were just molded and hand guns grafted on since they were just cheap cannon fodder to die, he didn't go too indepth but an educated guess what maybe that's why the smarter aliens made them slaves cause they're hard to put down permanently
@bunbungaming84462 жыл бұрын
@@gangstalker69 oh man, I just had a thought. We might have been watching and playing a very diet Halo. The series is about a race of enslaved aliens, the games feature the Grunts, and the movies feature Hunters. But yeah, that kind of sucks that the director had to fill in the blanks in interviews, cause it seemed like there was gonna more to this than what we eventually got.
@subatomicseal77892 жыл бұрын

@ThatOneGuyWhoLostHisHandle2 жыл бұрын
@@pedroholsbach8592 Wait so any movie posing the US military in a leading good guy role is propaganda? How terrible, I guess we'll just have to pretend like our own fighting forces are evil and make some other country's military the hero for no apparent reason. I mean if you classify any glorification of one's own military as propaganda then what is wrong with propaganda as a whole in the first place? It would only be the extreme types of propaganda that straight-up lie to influence people that are bad no? But luckily it's not, propaganda is something that tries to manipulate somebodies beliefs through targeted advertising and if you think the goal of this movie was to do anything but make America's marines look mighty and proud then you're on some shit XDXD.

The movie actually has way more lore than it has any right to. The origins of the alien species. Their leadership structure, goals, biology, etc. It's enough to actually get me to want a sequel. Even as mediocre as the movie was. The game... oh the game. They figure out pretty quickly that what they initially thought was the head is actually just their eyes. Their brain is in the "chest" area. Dead center mass. But the game treats the "head" like a human head. Completely taking one bit of actually cool lore from the movie out of the equation.
