Kings and Generals animated documentary series on the history of Ancient World and Ancient Greece continues with the first video in the wars of the Diadochi - successors of Alexander of Macedon. Previously, we have covered Alexander's conquest of Persia ( • Alexander of Macedon -... ) and his campaign in India, as well as his reforms, plans and death ( • Alexander: Indian Camp... ). In the aftermath of his death, his generals - the Diadochi, started dividing his empire during the Council of Babylon and deciding who will rule the empire. Meleager's coup attempt failed and he was killed. To the west, the Greek city-states led by Athens rebelled against Antipater, leading to the Lamian War, while in Asia, Ptolemy famously stole Alexander's body, striking one of the first blow of the coming war ( • Lamian War - Greeks Re... ). This led to the First War of the Diadochi in which an alliance led by Perdiccas and Eumenes faced the alliance led by Antipater and Ptolemy at the battles of Camel's Rampart, Hellespont, Orkynia and Cretopolis in 321-319 BC, which Antipater and Ptolemy won, dividing the empire again during the Partition of Triparadeisos ( • First War of the Diado... ), which in turn led to the Second War of the Diadochi, the battles of Coprates river, Athens, Megalopolis, Gabiene and Paraitakene, the end of Eumenes, as well as Philip III Arrhidaeus and Olympias ( • Battles of Gabiene and... ). Initially, the winners were in accord, but at some point, new alliances formed with Antigonos on one side and Ptolemy and Seleucus on the other, leading to the Third Diadochi War and the battle of Gaza of 312 BC.

I think you definitely finished the series with Antigonids . Their story is full on interesting from once the greatest empire in the Asia to holding the few enclaves in Greece. Then his son Demetrius took macedon and fight the selucus , lyscimachus, and phyrrus simultaneously. Then he again lost to phyrrus . And reduce his territory to few enclave again. And then his son antigonus ii re-establish the his kingdom in Macedonia and antagonids rule Macedonia until romans tookover . Full underdog story.😌

This new series on the Diadochi is incredible. This time is so interesting, ushering the Hellenistic Period that lasted for centuries. This might be a bit early to ask, but is it possible we could see a new series on Pyrrhus and his wars? Or maybe as part of this series? He is considered as part of the Diadochi as well.

Frustratingly little information survives to the present times giving the intricate historical details about the.ever changing fortunes of the Diadochoi as each sought to consolidate their own power base and shape events in ways that benefitted them. Especially compared to the depth of chronology recorded during Classical Greece. Hardly anything survives regarding the Babylon War. It's such a shame so much history made during these exciting, turbulent, changing times wasn't recorded with the depth that later western dominated eras were

Well done, but a couple of questions will you be mentioning Alexander’s other son Hercules and his mistress Barsine Because I believe they’re still alive around this time, and also towards the end, also conclude the series with what happens to the respective dynasties for example, Cassanders dynasty ended with his demise as his sons were answered from the throne by Demetrios also I was gonna say that head picture for SELEUKOS . You might want to change it to his original statue form that you put in the first series because that’s actually accurate

The Wars of the Diadochi ( 322 BC - 281 BC), or Wars of Alexander's Successors, were a series of conflicts fought between the generals of Alexander the Great, known as the Diadochi, over who would rule his empire following his death on June 10, 323 BC. First War (321-319 BC), Second War (318-316 BC), Third War (315-311 BC), Babylon War (311-309 BC), Fourth War (307-301 BC). Ptolemy I Soter was the successor of Alexander the Great who went on to found the Ptolemaic Kingdom with the capital Alexandria centered on Egypt. The Ptolemaic Kingdom (305 BC - 30 BC) was ruled by the Ptolemaic dynasty until the death of Cleopatra VII in 30 BC. Roman Empire province of Aegyptus (Egypt) with its capital Alexandria (30 BC - 641 AD) was CONQUERED by Sunni Muslim Rashudin Caliphate with its capital Medina in 641 AD. Clickbait describes a situation in which the title and the content are different. How is that the case here?

What did Alexander predict happening after his death? I think he said "there will be funeral games in good ernest". And if that's what he said, he was sure ****ing right. :-) I hope I at least got the quote right. Unless the whole thing is apocryphal. In any case, I like funeral games!

You know.. as much as I appreciate this channel and such channels, even history as a whole. I am very saddened by the gradual decline into a pay for knowledge world even on something as trivial as youtube. I fully understand and support a channels need, especially at this size, of trying to find ways of revenue for itself. But surely that could be done as well through other means of giving to members, rather than hiding so many great depictions of stories from so many viewers. Perhaps through shirts, coffee mugs or giving members a look into the creation process and detailed analysis of particular sources, or perhaps giving the members a chance to read the sources themselves with your support of course. I get it but I also wish you could show all of that history hidden behind a pay wall to all these great listeners and viewers. Take care, Kings and Generals

Is very interesting that the area of Israel and Palestine beside of Siege of Jerusalem by the Babylonians or the Siege of Gaza by Alexander the Great was also the place for a battle of the Diadochi Wars!

Well not exactly, the ptolemyians didn't hide behind their civilians, because there were no icc and icj, which are to reward this practice

“Hiding behind civilians” is the excuse to ethically cleanse the population, the actual goal of the war, which the ICC and ICJ correctly term a crime against humanity.
