The first battle to show Zizka's military genius (the one-eyed dude) who took advantage of new unorthodox weaponry (cannons, wagenburg defense line) and terrain. Though greatly outnumbered (5-to-1) and poorly equipped/trained, they had no other option but to fight because they were practically surrounded. First, they repelled the frontal cavallry charge and when other crusaders tried to flank them, they were immobilized by mud from dried-up fishpond. Due to fog/bad visibility, they expected the fishpond to be dry and solid enough for horses. They could not be more wrong... Light Hussite infantry then finished the job and seized the incredible victory (though with heavy losses on both sides).

Jan Zizka and his people about 400 armed peasants with a dozen war wagons and a handful of cavalry are headed from Pilsen to the newly built fortress town of Tabor (built by other Hussite revolutionaries). at 1.10 a scout arrives to tell Zizka they are being pursued by some 300 Knights Hospitaller from Strakonice. ZIzka tells his folowers to hurry as they are being followed by the enemy. They speed up, but the one of the riders says they can't go much faster and won't be able to escape. Then another scout arrives from the front and says there is another force of Royalist Iron Men from the town of Pisek (these would be the Pilsen Landrieden) about a half hour ride. They confer and decide that there is a force pursuing them and another one from the front so they are trapped and will have to fight. Zizka orders his followers to be prepared to fight. Zizka examines the area and decides they will set up in the most narrow spot against the pond on the dam with the emptied fish pond on the other side. He tells his men to set up the wagons defensively on one side and to place a number of crossbowmen on the other side with the emptied fishpond. The wagons are not in a real semi circle rather they are staggered. (This was an area well known for raising carp in fishponds and they would be emptied when it was time to get the fish) Another rider says the mounted knights have passed a certain town and are getting closer. Zizka asks him why he's stuck and he replies that with on first sight it looked like a dry field he didnt know it was muddy. Zizka then proclaims - not us that will be drowned but they will (something to that effect). As the Knights from Strakonice arrive they laugh and say look at those dirty peasants they think they can defend themselves. Another Knight says, even if all we did push them with our horses we could just stomp them all. Then one of the leaders says "noble gentlemen have patience we need to wait for the Royalist Iron men to arrive. Then calls for wine. Zizka orders flail men and other men with halberds and guns on the wagons and the rest on the on the dam. Zizka then says we will defend ourselves here. One of his men says Will we not face them in the field? He says no we will defend ourselves from wagons just like we would in a castle. The man says is that not against the chivalric code of fighting? Zizka states is it the knightly way of fighting to use Iron men against naked peasants? The leader of the Strakonice knights Jindřich of Hradec then meets the arriving Royalist Knights from Pilsen Landfrieden led by Peter von Konopischt of Sternberg. Peter von Konopischt states they were worried they would arrive only to meet the victors. Jindřich of Hradec states they didn't want to spoil that moment for them. He states I have the honour to offer you the attack on those peasant so you can stomp them with your horses. Peter states you arrived first you have the honor to go first. Zizka then orders his followers to hold their fire until they are close and upon his signal to fire the guns and crossbows. He then tells those in reserve to await his command. (Jindrich of Hradec was killed in this battle) Peter Sternberg was killed a few months later in the Battle of Vitkov Hill in Prague where the Hussites were even more outnumbered (5 to 1) There is a part 2 of this battle on youtube.

Ян Жижка Спартак средневековья. Один из величайших полководцев. Кстати есть версия, что он участвовал в битвах при Айзенкуре и Грюнвальде.

It is curious that Břeněk Švihovský, a prominent Hussite leader, who fell in the battle, is not named anywhere during the scene. The two other guys accompanying Žižka are Chval and Kuneš.

Břeněk Švihovský is a little-known personality, he was a participant for a very short time, and his brothers generally became enemies of the Hussites. In addition to Kuneš from Belovice and Hval from Machowice, there is also a bearded preacher - this is Vaclav Koranda.
