This is exactly what I've been debating for my irons - hollow body vs cavity back with similar lofts. Very happy to see this comparison. I'm in the low 80's 7 iron swing speed group. I'm finding that the hollow body irons I have spin just a tad too low in the long irons and I get more roll out on the green than I want. Still holds the green but not as precise as I would like. I have the Pro 223 irons and find that I can play through 5 iron and get good stopping power. My choice was between playing the 223 through 5 iron or hollow body through 6 iron. If the 6 iron is strong enough then it can gap just fine to my 25 degree hybrid. I decided to go with the Pro 223 for the feel and looks. I think the additional spin helps me when coming out of the rough where spin gets knocked down and also with consistency. Really could go either way but the 223's feel great. This is especially important to me in 8, 9, PW, G. The hollow irons don't feel great to me in that part of the bag.

I bought the 243 they feel fantastic. The distance is surprisingly long. I had them bent to retro lofts and have gained distance over my Callaway Apex 21. I did get a four iron in the 245 and it is an absolute beast of the Teebox on a short par four. 243 are the best filling irons I have ever hit.great review as always!

I saw a Mizuno vid with Luke and he hit 241, 243 and 245 7 irons. Same spin, more height and more distance as he moved up the range. Descent angle also went up. He commented he should game 245’s across the whole bag. I have a full set of the original HMB’s and I love them. I tried an MP20 PW but still preferred the HMB’s. Go Mizuno

I went from Titleist T150 to Mizuno Pro 245. This was a mistake, since the 245 is more like the Titleist T200. I despised the hollow body feel and sound of the 245. Hence I'm now getting the Mizuno 243, since it's very like the Titleist T150, even with identical lofts.

Hi Nathan within the testing I matched the lofts as close as I could throughout all the datasets with the largest discrepancy being 0. 8 of a degree. I think on balance all the results given and any winner/loser etc is due to head design etc rather than a tiny amount of loft difference relative to it's static amount 👍🏻 Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍🏻

Can generally take a little while when changing irons to get used to teh trajectory and carry differences. When experiencing a peak height gain that also normally comes with a descent angle change which will change roll out distances ad so can take time to get used to. It's common and will subside with more time using them 👍🏻

Just got fitted for 243s and was expecting to blend the set. Mizuno told me that it's not needed with how they designed the 243. It's already blended down the set if considering a blending with 245 and I agree. A 241/243 combo makes sense tho, but it would look weird in the bag.
@AskGolfNut

Agree with the looks blend. I'd personally go heavily weakened 245 set into the 241s. Looks and lofts largely blended but the feel differences would still be quite apparent when going from one to the other 👍🏻

This is more normal than you think. I thought the same thing until I put the 245 down at the ball. It's big and chunky. 243 is so fast off the face that when I tested 245..only one or two balls maybe carried 2 or 3 yds further, and it didn't feel as good.

Drew and Tony, this is the wonderful thing about humans playing golf, they all come up with different experiences. Although it's sometimes counterintuitive, I've seen it countless times that the golfer with the smaller club head in hands actually strikes it better and gets overall better results with the smaller club head. This is due to the spray consistency of their strike with the smaller head.... The brain thinks this club head is tiny so I better concentrate here 😊

@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut Ай бұрын
@michaelcibula9552 Mizunos have very low bounded and even with the weakened off lofts, the amount of deloft at impact negates most of the bounce anyway 👍🏻👍🏻 only the Tour van would bend them 4 weak, 3 would be the absolute max that the normal custom fitting factory would do 👍🏻

Great comparison as always. I must admit, that the 245 in my eyes is just much nicer looking than the 243 with that odd wedge-like thing that looked stuffed down in the speed-slot... 😒 For that reason alone it would be 245 for me between the two, and then maybe bent a bit to fit distances better (if needed)
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut 3 ай бұрын
Agree for sure, and for me I'd look to weaken them off like Luke Donald to get them much much closer to that of the 241s. Then they'd work great for a higher swing speed player for sure 👍🏻

Have you actually put the HMP directly up against the 245s in a like for like test. I generally have always got surprisingly good results from golfers teasing these 2 types of irons. The 245s being the Players Distance iron is a bridging iron to that of the HMPs 👍🏻

Lukes 245s are weakened off a lot to basically mimic his old bladed lofts. I heard one say 4 degrees weaker.... I think Mizuno would only normally bend them 2 or maybe max 3 for retail. The spin of a weakened off 245 would be much higher than the one you'll test within a custom fitting, but the fitter would be able to tell you the expected spin characteristics with a weakened head 👍🏻

I bought a set of 245s less than a month ago. They are awesome. However, I've noticed the ferrules on my PW and 7i have come loose (i.e. there's now a gap between the bottom of the ferrule and the club head) and the club heads have moved to a closed position i.e. they are no longer square. I'm wondering if anyone else has had issues with the build quality of their 245s or Jay whether you've heard any other stories like this? I'm waiting on replies from both Mizuno and the retailer...

@@mortarlerroux3375 The retailer got it fixed for me very quickly. My clubheads were visibly not square anymore. You can check for yourself pretty easily. line the clubhead up on the floor against a straight line (e.g. a tile) as if you are going to hit a shot. Now look at your grip. Assuming you have the name of the maker e.g. Golf Pride facing up, it the brand name still in a centred position or does it look like the grip has 'spun around'? For me, seems there was a problem with the epoxy used in building the clubs. No problems since the retailer re-fitted the heads. If you do get them refitted, get the lofts and lie angles checked again...

@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut 3 ай бұрын
The difference in Loft between all the different head speed datasets was minimal at best, less than a degree on all of them. The difference even if those tenths of a degree we matched perfectly wouldn't in any way bring the characteristics gap close. These two heads vertically gear differently. These two heads work very well in a blended set and on their own, its just the fitter has to keep an eye on the golfer in questions spin rates for both heads to know what loft tweaking to do to gap them properly 👍

All golfers are different and we all bring our own characteristics to the game, that's why it's so important to coach the individual and not necessarily a teaching manual. @DuoenoG bounce really has, very little effect on things, especially when historically Mizuno have very little bounce and with the normal amount of defloft through shaft lean into, impact, again commonly there is literally no bounce being displayed. Ping have one of the most bounce spec'd irons on the market yet haven't noticed the bounce play any role in how one club feels and works compared to one with very little. Either way, whatever help bounce may or may not give on the fat shots (hit ground before the ball), unless dynamic lie is 0 relative to the floor, then the bounce won't work either way..... So long story short, it wouldn't be on my radar whatsoever to be an issue 👍🏻
