Great educational video, Dan. If anybody is thinking of buying a box wedge machine, this is the video to watch. You actually did look like a scientist with your matching blue hoodie and blue safety glasses.

Great comparison Dan nice 👍 that Don gave you his tip for changing out the wedges 😮😊❤

Yes Dan, I am impressed by Both Wedges. The Seven way is excellent if you want more for Bundle Wood. The Slash that comes off of the Split wood is excellent to start your Fires and keep them going. At home recovering and After my Final Angioplasty and Stent. Can't do anything for 2weeks except Walk around a little. Then gradually get back into things on a lite Basis. Tuning into Friday Night Live. Stay Safe my Friend. Ron from the Woodyard in Duanesburg NY.

If the weather out your way is gonna be the same as here you'll want to just be inside anyway...haha....but hope the time goes by quick and you can be back at it.

Hi Dan Great Demonstration I think the 7 Way Wedge on the 37 D Probably would give you more Peaces for your Bundle Wood Supply However you do get Quality Peaces from the 5 Wedge for your 37 D Thicker Not Much Waist So for 20 Peaces vs 33 I would Say it All Depends on how you want to Sell or have your Firewood 👍

Thank you for the comparison. I’ve wanted to know if I could use the 5 way for bulk “fireplace” wood and for heating wood. Didn’t want to spend the money for both. I think the 5 way is my choice. Thanks Dan!

Thank goodness I can now stop wondering what the difference is between the 5 and 7 way wedges😅 I really enjoyed the scientific tote you used to collect the wood🤣

I noticed that all the blades on both cutters look blunt, and are tearing the blocks apart instead of cutting them.
@hayesrutherford941510 ай бұрын
Good video, Andrew has one on this but not as "scientific" . This should help folks decide what is best for their needs. I will "make do" with tall 4-way, regular 6-way, and 7-way box wedges. No plans for selling bundle wood but feel like it would be possible with the regular 7 way.

Can you do this same video with the pizza wedge? Would be nice to see all 3 box wedges compared...
@Back40Firewood10 ай бұрын
I would, but don't have the pizza wedge...I'm guessing it would be close to the standard 7 way depending on the wood going through.
@Tonnsfabrication10 ай бұрын
I run the 5 way for home heating, it makes some nice firewood. The seven way is good for bundle wood looks like.
@Back40Firewood10 ай бұрын
I prefer the 5 way as well.

I may need to add a box wedge machine to my arsenal one day to make my collection complete.
@Back40Firewood10 ай бұрын
Once you go box wedge, you won't go back! lol But having the pull back arm bring the bigger rounds back for re-splitting is a huge advantage.

Do you sharpen your box wedges or are they the factory edge?
@Back40Firewood10 ай бұрын
I have not sharpened them yet.

I don't mean any offense to anyone with this post. But I really don't understand why some people are so worried about the slash. I consider the slash created by the higher number splitting wedges as a byproduct of the speed of those wedges. In both business and hobby, speed is paramount as the faster you can get a job done, the more work that you can get accomplished. It isn't really that many more pieces lost to the slash, and the slash can be used in your personal fire pit. Just my opinion though. 😀
@Back40Firewood10 ай бұрын
Yeah I don't mind the slash either when looked at to your point the time and effort a box wedge saves you.

May really be a horse a piece but I think the 7 way set a bit taller would make nice size camp and bundle wood. The 37D really does crank it out. 🔥

What is the difference between a pizza wedge and a regular wedge?
@Tonnsfabrication10 ай бұрын
I think the pizza is about 1/2" smaller between knives than the 7 or close to that?

Ummm size of the wood once it’s sent through???? Seems like a no brainer answer 😂
@WoodysRTBFirewood10 ай бұрын
Hey shifty, after putting all the slash in your laundry basket, I hope you don’t end up with some slivers in your underwear, that “wood”be a real pain in the ass. Cheers Woody !!!
@Back40Firewood10 ай бұрын
LOL...nope, those baskets are for outside/woodyard use only.

End result: The five way need resplitting. The seven way is the way to go is the one for your bundle wood.

Hahaha...those baskets are for outside/woodyard use so no worries.
@jbbrown790710 ай бұрын
I see the five_way makes four splits. The seven must make six splits. You dont count the original block, that is not a usable split yet.
@Back40Firewood10 ай бұрын
The top split might not be a usable split, but it is still a spit.

Is that the regular 7 way. Or the so called pizza 7 way. ????
@Back40Firewood10 ай бұрын
The 'pizza' wedge is a 7 way, but the distance between the wedges is smaller.
@BGWenterprises10 ай бұрын
@Back40Firewood OK it's the regular 7 way. There's just no reference to which it is in the video, Thank you.
@jbbrown790710 ай бұрын
The five way splits need to be resplit to be ideal size.
@jameshardy248110 ай бұрын
The wedges did not cut on the top of the wedge, making them a 4 and 6 wedge.
@Back40Firewood10 ай бұрын
Nope, the top is considered a split when pushed through.
@jbbrown790710 ай бұрын
I would call the two, a six way and a four-way.

@noelstractors-firewood5710 ай бұрын
Neat example. Poplar or popular wood. Is not to popular. But easy to split. Makes good kindling, if you can get it dried out. 👋👋👍🏻👍🏻🪵🪓🔥
