My Dad was in the US 28th Infantry Division fought in Battle of Hürtgen Forest and Battle of the Bulge - he never talked about WW2 era from mid 44 to May 45. The only thing he ever said about the Bulge was how cold it was - and he grew up in very Northern Minnesota ( which gets very, very cold in the winter) - so I have had to read books and watch old films to get an idea of what he went thru.
@2TrackMind-c6iАй бұрын
Minnesota gets a lot colder than that part of Germany/Belgium. Your dad just got caught up in the maelstrom without adequate clothing and not enough hot food. Troops in winter get very exhausted by exposure and hunger. It was hard to get them the calories they needed during those battles. The Germans were a lot worse off. I salute your father.
@yasumitsunaka6094Ай бұрын
The winter of 1944-1945 was actually one of the coldest in European history, with the temperature going below 0°F that was just a few degrees warmer than the average (not absolute temperatures) in Minnesota.
@2TrackMind-c6iАй бұрын
@@yasumitsunaka6094 True enough, and made worse by all the conditions I wrote. Not enough hot food, not enough winter covering, not enough sleep. Those guys were already skinny 135 pounders before the battle.

Germans writing Aus dem traum (the dream is over) on American vehicles, how Ironic. They still thought they could win at that stage.

Mostly, they did think that. But there were a lot of East Front troops that knew better.

@@cathode6252it is. Respect the dead. There is a small weird group of people going around, just looking for blurred pictures and then ranting about it. Some of these people are death mongers. They get off by looking at dead bodies, especially the eyes of dead bodies. It's like a drug to them.

I took a trip to the Ardennes a some years ago. I visited the area where the US column was ambushed and stood right where the German troops are sharing US cigarettes...There is a museum nearby and the owner told me it's still possible to see trenches where German troops dug in the nearby woods.

That jagdpanzer is totally unreal at the 1:54 mark, massive power tank destroyer basically germans made a tank destroyer that can destroy itself in a battle, so the allies had no answer to it, even the king tigers were totally blowing allies tanks out of the fields, one tiger got rid of around 20+ tanks during this battle i believe. 🦘🦘👌👌✌✌👍👍
