After a heavy and costly victory at Saipan, it was time for the US Navy’s V Amphibious Corps to move on to the next phase of the operation in the Marianas. Their next target lay just three nautical miles south of Saipan, where the island of Tinian posed a permanent threat of raids and artillery attacks to future air bases on Saipan as long as the Japanese garrison consisted of about 9,000 men was not neutralized.

This is amazing. Regarding to the photo of the Seabees at 16:15, I am 99% sure that the 5th seabee from the left wearing a helmet, is my uncle, Ralph Lewis. He is no longer living, but I'd recognize his grin anywhere.

My father was a 19 year old Marine when he fought on Saipan, Tinian, Kwajalein and Iwo Jima, with a few more islands thrown in for good measure, and it’s good to see documentaries about the Pacific War….it was completely ignored for so long in favor of the war in Europe. I started seeing more books about Asia and the Pacific after Ken Burns released “The War,” but that was only about 15 years ago, or so.

I landed on Tinian in 2000. It's a 20 minute boat ride by commuter from Saipan. The base is gone. There is apark there. I stood on the spot where Littleboy and Fatman were loaded

As an 11 year old that was born and raised in tinian I found bullets and artillery from this was. I moved from there because my dad wanted us to come.I am also glad I left it hurts leaving tinian. There are good and bad spirits there you have to ask in chromu if you do you can do what you want you just have to ask.I ask if you have to go number 1 ASK before you do these sprites can do injuries and death. My uncle was swimming after 6:00 that’s when the spirits swim we have to respect them during when he was swimming he felt a pinch a couple months later his leg got very big.I came during that time when I got there I saw his leg I felt bad my family told my brothers and I we had to ask before we do something. When I do something in the jungle I ask so I don’t get hurt or die yes die these spirits can make you die some people die from not asking.I LOVE TINIAN FOREVER 670 FOREVER that’s my island number.

Text To Speech Engines are 30 years old and better than ever. ChatGPT isn't even the same thing. Also, it lies. Someone worked hard on this script and then had it read by a well developed TTS engine. So how about you either enjoy the content, or do better. And until then, stfu.

My father was there. I think it’s safe to say that the US commanders always thought events would go much easier than they did. Think of all of the bombardment on Iwo Jima, which didn’t touch the honeycombed underground entrenchments that the Japanese had dug into because the US reconnaissance didn’t figure that out. No matter how vicious the island fighting was, the biggest worry among enlisted Marines (according to my dad) was the invasion of Japan….one of the only incidents he divulged was how ecstatic they were that they didn’t have to do that!

I can't believe that the biggest topic of discussion in on this excellent video is how good/bad the TTS is and whether a shitty search engine wrote it. Kids, if you don't understand AI, TTS, the difference between the two, and how much work goes into making a video like this, you don't have to watch and you are most welcome to fuck off back to Facebook. Jesus fucking Christ. Excellent presentation, thanks very much. The level of detail is very impressive, and small TTS pronunciation errors really don't detract from the quality of the channel. So thanks heaps.

Limey guns inflicted heavy casualties on the USMC. It was suspected that the guns were moved from Singapore. In "Tarawa; 3 Days of Hell" was the limeys' allegation that the guns were sold about 40 years before. Japan was at war with Russia. The Russian Caesar was related by marriage and blood to Edward VII. Good series, but annoying that the narrator seems to go to special lengths to grossly mispronounce the names of all these places. Ta-RAH-wa?? SAY-pen?? EYE-wo-Jeema? I'm surprise he doesn't say EYE-wo-J-eye-ma. As a US Marine, I think I know how these classic battle place names are pronounced.
