Just saying but I would love to see the battle of Monmouth and the reason is because it was the longest and biggest one day battle of the revolutionary war but another reason I would love to see the battle is because you see the battle took place in the Monmouth county New Jersey and that’s the county that I was born in grew up in and currently live in and I would love to see this battle because there wasn’t a lot of battle casualties but the casualties were mostly due to heat and you see this battle gave rise to the legend of Molly pitcher and she was a woman named Mary Ludwig hay’s and during the battle of Monmouth her husband William hay’s was in the continental army in the ranks of proctors 4th artillery of the continental army and during the battle of Monmouth William hay’s collapsed during the battle either wounded or suffering from heat exhaustion and you see as he was carried off the battlefield Mary Ludwig Hays took his place at the cannon and continued to swab and load the cannon using her husband’s ramrod and then at one point a British Musket ball or cannonball flew between her legs and tore off the bottom of her skirt and she supposedly said something to the effect of, “ well that could have been worse,” and went back to loading the cannon and after the battle George Washington asked about the woman whom he had seen loading a cannon on the battlefield and in commemoration of her courage he issued her a warrant as a non commissioned officer in the continental army.
