zehman11 I mean, because there's less physics, it makes it easier to pull certain maneuvers, so you can still apply certain tactics. Obviously you can't do something in War Thunder where you force the other pilot to stall because their engine is weaker, but you can still manage to pull maneuvers, so learning the tactics would still increase your skill as a pilot.

great video. very professional. im level 19 bomber and i enjoy evading enemy fighters. throttle down hard immediately corkscrew downward left fly low and slow as possible. Fighters dont handle well at low speeds and i can usually coax them into crashing into a structure. PS4.

Though it's probably considered common sense now, at some point around WWII, pilots began to realize that the best way to avoid getting shot to bits by bomber gunners was to either dive attack from directly above the target, or to climb attack directly below. The need to be directly in a blind spot is heightened with WWI era bombers because of their gunners' increased mobility and ability to aim higher or lower than their WWII counterparts.

With tactic 1 the reason to stay above your opponent is so that when you attack you can dive down on top of him, giving you more speed. Planes at the time were very slow, so a dive to acquire more speed, could be the difference between life and death, the drawback though, is that when you fly above your opponent, you loose sight of him. Although he can still see you. But, although he may see you, and you can't see him, if he spots you before you dive, he really can't do much, he can't climb to meet you because the planes of the time were weak, if he tried to climb to get an advantage on you, he would most likely stall and fall to his death.

The reason you want to start from a higher altitude is so you can dive and exchange altitude for speed. In aerial combat, the plane with the most energy has the advantage, so the best position to be in is high altitude moving fast.

Thes tactics are from Dicta Boelcke, a set of rules for flying aces written by Oswald Boelcke. These were considered fundamental tactics for aerial maneuvers.

when I see you attack bombers, you tend to go where the "body" of the plane is. when I attack bombers, I focus on taking out one side of the wings, and both wings on either the left or right side. I feel this helps a lot when taking down bombers, and once that is accomplished, targeting the "body" is much easier. It throws off the judgement and accuracy of the tail gunner, making it easier to shoot down. just some tips I think would help you as a KZbinr. good work

Also, in WW1 many planes had SMGs such as the Villar Perosa or semi-autos like the Selbstlader 1916 mounted, and they only had a couple hundred rounds. Later they started to mount machine guns and could chew through all of their ammunition in only a couple of seconds. Thats why they only fired when they were close. They didn't have infinite ammo or fuel. Much of the time, they were aiming to kill the unprotected pilots not the wood and fabric planes.

Yeah it's a safe bet the tactics would hugely differ in rl😂 most of those planes were canvass and wood with a leaky old engine. They would have been downed super quick and the German triplanes manoeuvrability was to much for its frame in a dive or high G turn it was prone to tearing itself apart. Red Barron had one specially modified to combat that as he wanted to keep its superior turn radius and climb rate. The pilot and engine had no protection as the enemy bullets would pass through the fuselage like butter. Most of those planes were just flown taking a chance and hoping it would work the way it was meant to, it was the equivalent of the alpha phase in aerial combat. Absolutely love the history of aviation as my great gg was a mosquito bomber over Germany and my great uncle is an aviation engineer. Great vid and il be trying out some of your tips 👍

What? How does the bomber require skill? You fly over a group of enemies, drop bombs, turn around and come back. Where is the skill in that? In the attack plane and more so the fighter, you have to learn how to dog fight, how to maneuver effectively to escape from other fighters on your tail, how to actually aim at moving targets unlike the bomber than just carpet bombs an area and hopes for kills... You're high as fuck if you think the bomber takes more skill than the other planes in the game.

Matt I WBA When you drop like 3 primary bombs from really high up you're likely not gonna hit shit, and even then those 8 secondaries are still delayed substantially, your target will most likely have run away by the time they detonate, sure you're dropping bombs doesn't mean you're doing anything for your team, the bomber is slow and lumbering so literally everything on the ground is a threat

Sorry but that still doesn't counter the thought process and split second decisions that go into being successful with a fighter/attack plane over a bomber. Judging the drop time of bombs in correlation to your altitude does not take more skill than all the variables that accompany a fighter or attack plane.

When using a fighter I always use the tactic with the high flying and diving behind the enemy. For me it works. 90% of the time they notice me when it's too late.

one thing you should keep in mind is that back in ww1 believe it or not pilots couldn't see their plane in 3rd person perspective so the amount of situational awareness of you have compared to them is off the damn charts.

Really, thanks for clearing that out. Goo thing the rest of the game is realistic such as healing a bullet wound in a few seconds, reviving a soldier to perfect condition, repairing without using spare parts, spotting and sprinting endlessly. Anything else you want to add?

all I'm saying is that it's not really all that smart to attempt to apply actual ww1 tactics (they were designed to attempt to perserve the pilots life rather than do the max amount of damage an get kills) in a game designed around being fun over realistic. no need to rude. further more you act like 3rd person perspective doesn't actually factor in at all when it's the probably one of the largest differences between the game an the actual war. having a 3rd person perspective gives a player a incredible amount of information that simply isn't in the cards for a pilot who has only a first person perspective. the reason you want to line up shots an only fire when your sure you have a good bead? it's because in real ww1 running out of ammo was a big deal. not so much in the game.

Ive found a good tactic to instantly kill someone in a plane so you equip the bomber hunter loadout with the smaller fighter then use the speed boost to ram into the back of the plane then use the firework missles and insta kill

The original poster is simply restating the Dicta Boelcke: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dicta_Boelcke Never breaking off the attack simply means not losing initiative. If you run you give the other guy a chance to attack you. Shooting from range only works in game. In reality gunner is much harder. Even in other games like IL-2 Sturmovik series gunnery is much more challenging. You don't have the convenient aiming circle. I would advise against being complacent about being attacked from above. If your opponents aren't dropping you when they have an overwhelming energy advantage they suck. If you feel you can ignore "boom and zoom" attackers they don't know how to fly or the game engine isn't good enough. It's clear to me you've put some thought into adapting these rules to the game and your own play style. That is far better than simply repeating what you've heard elsewhere. This is good video so keep it up.

well one time i use ram as russians do at ww1 - enemy pilot was flying on attack plane very low to sea and i came from sky's but miss time to match speed with him, i was piloting bomber interceptor so only option to kill him fast was ram him using wheels. i did it and he goes to water, on the other hand i was pushd back up and fly away without any damage. what i want to say - it is possible to do great ram, stay alive and kill enemy without damage to your plane, but only benifit will be killed enemy plane cose u recive 0 points from it even if u hit him first(not tested if he crashes at ground, not at water as it was in my case)

I've been taking down fighters already have over 502 kills highest being the Dr.1 and Sopwith iv'e engaged enemy aircraft only not ground, my rules are fly high and catch them by surprise, if there are AA's take care of them first, if being chased flare and turn towards them, if after a fighter wait for the right time to get as much bullets into his machine, if after a bomber dump your trench fighter shots on the fuselage and only engage if you know you can win there are more experienced pilots out there and there's will always be one person more skilled than you

For me attacking ground targets are easy as hell. My typical load out is the Trench fighter. But I often find it very hard for me to take down other aircraft. Most of the time I'm always fighting much more skilled pilots than man and they knock me out of the air fast! It's almost a joke. Or the converse I'm matched up on servers where the pilots are way worse than me and they are push overs. It is very black and white for me.

For number 2 . i disagree, it is situational, it comes down to skill. as soon as you feel that the AA gunner or pursuing fighter has competent skill , you should break off. otherwise stay on target. Many times I have made the right call on the skill of two enemy pilots on 1 vs 2. I give chase to the better pilot and not let go. with 40 to 60 health I know I have enough to finish off the other

Lol these rules are called dicta Boelcke they was created by the founder and original first ace of ww1 Boelcke a German ace in Ww1 he also had faith in his pupil who would later out shine him in the war manfred von Richthofen also known as the red Barron these rules set the grounds of dogfighting and are still being used today

Yes and there are two more of them which were not mentioned in the post but were something we adapted to in Planetside 2 even without knowing about it being WW1 tactics. There are several reasons why dicta Boelcke doesn't apply much to BF1. The maps are to small, to predictable combat, to few players (planes) and many more reasons.

Im a noob pilot (4 stars with the attack plane only) but for me its very difficult the dogfights, when a plane is chasing me i dont know how to take away from me, i do some random turns and change my fly direction but it doesnt work very well. And when im chasing another plane it go away from me very easily. I think if you do a tutorial about it it will be very very very (very) usefull. Sorry if my english is crap, im still learning. howthehell It's not to do anything with PS4, Pc, or Xbox one servers, there is different variations of maps, you have Giants Shadow, but you have 2 more variants of it. One being no fog, two being fog, and one where it's fog throughout the map.

Hey MattiAce. Love your videos dude. I've been a fan of yours ever since I searched up "how to fly in battlefield" and you popped up. Now I dominate the skies and ground with the attack n fighter planes. So thanks for all the tips and keep up the awesome work. I do have a question though. How do you get your plane mini map so zoomed out? I have it on 500 setting and it still does not show the way yours does
