Battlefield 2042 goes into early access on November 12 and fully releases on November 19. There is a massive amount of information to catch you up on. Even with a couple of preview events and an open beta, it’s hard for players to gauge exactly what the game will be like at launch.
In this video, we’re catching you up on everything. We have a full breakdown of the 10 Specialist characters available at launch, what classes they fit into, and what their Specialties and Traits are. Then we’ll go over what we know about the maps and how they are different or similar to past games in the franchise. Even though there isn’t a campaign, we’ll tell you the basics of the story, which involves a looming war between the United States and Russia and the "No-Pat "characters caught in the middle including Irish and Oz. After that, you’ll get a full breakdown of modes, including All-Out Warfare, Portal, and Hazard Zone. The latter, Hazard Zone, is probably the biggest departure from previous Battlefield games of the past--it's a squad-based competitive match consisting of phases, a battle-royale-inspired one-life system, and its own currency called Dark Market Credits. Finally, we’ll cover new gameplay mechanics like the Plus System and what we know about post-launch seasons, including their battle pass system.

I generally am for trying new things, but man the specialists really killed my excitement for this. Feels like they took the thing that made battlefield unique (and gave it the fps gameplay style that always made me prefer it over CoD), and replaced it with something that just makes it more reminiscent of everything else out there.

Felt the same way. And there’s a lot of things about the game mechanics I am not really on board with. It feels like they focused too much on how the game looks instead of how it plays. Movement to me feels choppy, unlike how fluid movement is in like 3 or 1. And with the specialist thing, like you said, they took something pivotal of BF games and just threw it out. Bet you the german medic lady is rarely gonna get used. Really no need for her. And some specialists seem so much better and useful than others.

Does anyone know how to Pre load the EA Play 10 hr trial on Xbox Series X? I can’t find anything in the Microsoft store that includes a Preload for the EA Play trial. The story is just a contrived attempt at rationalizing having "operators" from various countries and no uniform appearance. If all of the soldiers were US Marines or Russian army men, they would be limited to the operators they could come up with and sell to players. All of their story telling resources are devoted to writing silly backstories and coming up with a believable backstory for having what are essentially Avengers characters on both sides of a war was too hard so they just copied and US-RU factions from previous games. Just like the numerous bugs in the beta, it's a symptom of publishers putting profit above all else.

They also make it difficult to distinguish who is a friendly and who isn't since everyone can look like carbon copies of each other, that is not good for team based gameplay. This whole specialist system didn't work well in the beta, and still doesn't work now.

Nice coverage, GameSpot. Sadly, to me, it's disappointing that it's mp-only. I've been there-enjoyed that, in long-ago iterations of BF but with no campaign/training sandbox/"SpecOps" missions and the like, that preferred type of FUN is entirely gone. I want the BF experience but not simply as "livestock" for the lifers. I will not be spending my time or money on this one. Good luck to the newbs and other "meat" out there.

The only info I'm waiting to get a clear is when, not if, but *_when_* Portal will be able to establish servers that stay up 24/7 until the creator should choose to take it down. Having the ability to save favorite servers is pretty much mandatory, or else you will constantly have to find out tons of info for each individual server before even figuring out if you want to play at that given server. That is very tiring in the long run.

At the moment it seems that you can favorite certain portal creators do you can always find their servers. Hopefully they add a rental server option down the line.

@@lucaslehman5379 been doing it since release, no tank is resisting that combo. Just throw them over the tanks so they track directly downwards, shoot an RPG on the tank's side, it'll blow up. You can also use them to force chopper and planes to deploy flare. EM made are good to disable vehicle's countermeasures or for robot dogs and turrets, but I don't use them much. The cluster nades though, most custom servers deactivate them cause they're too powerful

Most tank players are sniping back from a distance. They need better rpg or rocket launchers to combat this issue

@@jrjl89 if a tank's sniping in the distance, you can easily get to cover. Your choppers and own tanks should be a tank's biggest threat, if they're not doing their job the issue isn't coming from the tank being effective

The only thing you can do for free is use the Battlefield Portal website and create game modes, but you can't play them unless you pay full price for the game.
