Love the fact that for the armor units engaged, there were plenty of misses or lower end effects. That's what's bothered me about so many other games where you get hits half the time. Not at all like most actual engagement reports where there were many shots taken before hits or kills were obtained. Good fun game and review guys! thanks

Thats the one thing I really enjoy about battlegroup. I think I'd enjoy the armor rules a bit more if they had a bit more granularity for tracking vehicles, fires, etc.

Good report! We played this mission recently but unlike you, my opponent did take defences like trenches to put his initial defenders in. In this mission the defender gets to place all the units that occupy the defences (like trenches, which are cheap) plus 2d6 extra units! He had almost his complete force on the table at the start of the game... In the attack/defence scenario's it is really important to agree beforehand who will attack, so the other player can buy some defences.

I put a boatload of defensive terrain models on my christmas list. Hopefully Santa doesn't drop the ball! Attack / defend missions and the Recce missions are my favorite. Youre right though, knowing ahead of time makes for a much better game since you can tailor your list to do their job properly.

Great report and table, thanks for sharing. I think Russians should have bought some artillery and get those su-152 since the beginning as they resulted in unused expensive units in the end. On the German side I'd never have bought a FHQ in a Panther due to the unrealiability rule, especially if there is just one Panther on the table. Also I never buy supply truck for a 500 points game. We rolled up the mission after we had our lists so some of the gear wasn't optimal like those 152's :(

I do like the BG rules although at the same time I also have some issues with them personal opinion of course. Do you play Flames of War and how does it compare to BG? If its at all possible to compare the two, I've never played FoW myself. Thanks in advance

Steven Ferguson we have about 40 battle reports for Flames of War on the channel. Even though I'm not a big fan of the new version I did really enjoy FoW version 3 but its very different compared to BG. Flames is more like the 80's action movie approach to WW2 gaming. Lots of armor and explosions.

Keith Plymale All you need to do is use a die to track casualties for infantry teams. Besides that it works the same as with individual basing.

Peldira Studio Busy here too with real life stuff. I barely have any free time at the moment! Flames of War has fallen out of favor around here, we've mostly moved on to Battlegroup and other historical games.

Are the armor values for this game at all remotely historical? As in that Panther is nigh invulnerable when head on to T-34s n stuff?

They have a pretty good armor penetration table that feels spot on. Theres also a chance to immobilize tanks you cant penetrate.

@@CMDRFandragon if you stay mobile or shoot at long range its much harder to hit with AP. Plus the damage of the guns drops over distance so its harder to penetrate from one end of the table to the other
