Ok, a few points, so you don't scream at us too much in the comments. :-) 1. We know that in many Eastern European languages the word "prince" means "the son of the ruler", "heir". In English prince means both "ruler of the princedom - knyaz/knez" and "son of the ruler/heir". 2. The lack of the cannons for the Ottomans during the battle of Vaslui is strange. There are a few explanations - they were left at the siege of Shkodra or were left behind with the baggage train, as Suleiman Pasha wasn't expecting a battle. 3. Dobruja remains an interesting case, multiple sources depict it either under Wallachian or Ottoman control prior to the conquest of Chilia by Stephen. 4. It is extremely difficult to research the Ottoman battles, the sources are often conflicting, so if you see something that you consider wrong, try putting yourself in our shoes - we have to go through multiple primary and secondary sources and logic our way to the coherent story. 5. We made a mistake with Stephen Batory, the name is right, but the portrait wrong. 6. We don't have time/resources to add subtitles in other languages, but English. He didn't have the time to assemble them again this time and the Mongol attack hindered that as well. Without the peasant conscripts he wouldn't have had more than 15.000 soldiers. Of course, these would have been the best troops by far.

In France the terrain was a major military factor preventing these kind of amazing victories, tradition, and the nobility were a political factor against this too. (The king spent 90% of the time trying to prevent his knights from mindlessly charging forward.)

well, he was brave, as we already know trough his actions, he was highly capable in military tactics and also very skilled in diplomacy. he was surrounded by enemies like golden horde, ottomans, polish, his wallachian "fellows" or hungarian foes but managed to outperform them using all the war lessons from the book, winning 34 from 36 battles that he personally participate and another 4 lead by his commanders.

Sultan Muhammad (“محمد” spelt Mehmet by the Turkish) the Conqueror personally led his first campaign at the age of 19, conquered Constantinople at the age of 21 and ended the Byzantine Empire. Within 10 more years, he led 11 more campaigns, and then another 6 for a total of 19 personal campaigns. The Sultan annexed the Serbian and Morean Despotate, Lesbos, the Kingdom of Bosnia, Karamanids, colony of Negroponte and the entire Black Sea. He also ended the Empire of Trebizond. These achievements testify for the Sultan’s ruling, religious, strategic and engineering genius. Mehmed II is by far the most respectable Sultan in the Ottoman History. He was not only a great commander, but also a brilliant diplomatic ruler. In addition, he had some high interest in different kinds of science, especially mathematics. He founded a moslem seminary and brought the greatest mathematicians of his time to Istanbul. I know the aria of Vaslui battle very well , My familly descends from moldavian soldiers compesated by Stephan with land on the surrounding hills. It was a muddy swamp valey ( now a lake) and in winter the fog is incredible thick and there is an echo so strange that amplifies the sonds. Spooky place and my grandparents told me stories with turkish soldiers ghosts.Stephan knew the place well because he lived in Vaslui in his youth.

I remembered watching and reading about this battle and this has to be one of the most planned and well-executed tactics in the medieval warfare. Battle drums to lure the Ottomans across the river and then force them to turn to the wrong side. Not sure if this was all planned out by Stefan or he adapt his tactics upon seeing the Ottoman crossing the river (I am not sure if he could have predicted that Suleiman will cross the bridge, since he was originally on the same side with the Vaslui town). Mehmed must have learnt of Stefan's talent and decided not to take any form of risk. He carefully ensure supply line and move slowly to avoid separation. The later battle of Valea Alba forced by Mehmed was a simple and standard battle in which Mehmed simply outnumbered.

Unfortunately, we don't know more about the previous battles Stephen fought, so it is hard to say. But, he won quite a few against the superior opponents, so he knew how to fight outnumbered.

Stephen ruled for 57 years(1457-1504), had 36 battles and won 34. And to thank God for his victories, he built monasteries. He's a legendary ruler and also a saint here in Romania.

I thought of fixing a few innacuracies, but your pinned comment made me change my mind and tackle other subject. I was trying to imagine to fit your shoes, guys, and that wouldn't be easy. This video containing so many details and wow, the cartography is op! Maybe you wonder what is with these principalities? Where are they today? Well, principality of Moldavia and Wallachia united in 1859 and Transylvania was granted to the newly formed principality after Romanian participation in the WW1, thus resulting, more or less, modern Romania! Extra facts: the name Valea (valley) Alba (white) was given to that particular valley where the 1476 battle was fought due to the high number of bones present everywhere there. Peter Aaron, Stephan's uncle lured his brother (Bogdan, Stephan III's father) into a trap at a wedding and it is said he personally beheaded his bro. Stephen never forgot this. After the battle of Vaslui, Stephan was not content with the result as some units didn't do their job properly so he executed some boyars for this. After Mircea the Old's reign, Dobrudja fell into the firm grip of the Ottomans and Romania would receive this province in the 19th century. Ty for this vid, K&G!

During this time, the Ottomans had many strong opponents like Skanderberg, Stephan III, Vlad the impaler, Sultan Hassan, King Mathias etc. Thanks to the strong leadership of Mehmed II, the Ottomans were able to ride through this tough period and continue to expand. Any lesser ruler would have failed under such tough circumstances and the Ottoman Empire would have probably shrunk, if not collapsed.

15:00 Stephen didn’t simply agree to pay annual tribute again like as you say here. More context was needed. Stephen and Mehmed negotiated more favourable terms for Moldavia which included paying less tribute than before and the Ottomans agreed as they did not want to deal with Stephan again. This was a huge win for Stephen. Stephen went on to rule for almost 50 years! He fought 36 battles only losing 2. He was a true tactician and military genius.

Well... I think it is the best documentary about this battle. This is the most famous battle in the medieval era for my country, Romania. I have to say that i am quite surprised by the way you made this documentary. In a very, very positive way. I know this battle very well (really well, have my word) but, as a true history lover, i know that you can always learn more, as you never know everything. I watched dozens(maybe hundreds) of documentarys of this battle. Some of them said things that were wrong, others weren't specifing them at all. But your documentary is the first one in which i hear incredible details, some of which I I honestly didn't knew( hit in the ego XD ). Anyways, just wanted to mention yet again what an amazing work you do. P.S: would you consider covering more of the romanian history(i.e. dacian wars of 101-102;105-106 or maybe some modern history, mainly from the Crimean War to the Cold War) I am asking this because my last request was of the Dark Age, and I received the Catalunian Plains:) Sorry if i sound arrogant, I am super excited every time you post something, especially my own history. The Chronicle of Moldavia - written by humanist Grigore Ureche ( 'ear' ) - describes Stefan as always knowing how to bounce back from a defeat. After the White Valley, Ottomans plundered Moldavia and took a significant number of slaves. However, as they were crossing the Danube back into occupied territory, Stefan suddenly appeared with an army and charged right at the Sultan. Mehmed is described as mortified and Ureche states that he ordered all loot abandoned, so that the Ottoman Army could cross the Danube faster
