This scene was the culmination of Laura Roslin for the entire series. Her fade afterwards was immensely tragic, but her defiance here, despite the sickness, despite the odds, is absolutely thrilling.

Yes, absolutely. Always felt it was a bit of a cruel and unnecessary decision to make her cancer come back as well. But yes an excellent character arc, truly one of the few that was consistently very well done and faithful to the original feel of the character throughout.

Smart, character-driven dialogue decisions. In the initial moments of being freed, Adama says "thank you son" to Lee and has a moment with Tigh where Tigh calls him "Bill." But the moment Adama turns to the men, to take back his ship, he refers to everyone by their rank, right through the moment he succeeds in taking back the ship. First he says "Lieutenant" to the lieutenant. When Tigh goes to blow that lieutenant away, Adama stops him by saying "Colonel." This continues up to the moment he retakes control (in another video, kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKqqeXp8nsx3a7M). As the room is being secured he orders someone to connect him to "the President." He calls to Roslin, "Madam President! This is the Admiral!" and "I repeat: Galactica secure!" All words of formality, showing the entire crew, through his words as well as his actions that in this moment he is reestablishing order, how things are supposed to be. That man is a lieutenant, this one a colonel. She is the president. I am the admiral. Galactica is secure.

This show never forgot the little details. Yes, after years on the run, not knowing who exactly the enemy is or where they are hiding, after learning that some of our allies are "the enemy" and some of the enemy are actually allies, or willing to be … yeah, everyone's a little scrambled. I love the reaction of the Six (Sonja) to the pure fury bursting from Roslin. A big part of the Six line's drive is to understand and experience human passion - love in particular. I think Sonja's reaction is in part because she realizes that Roslin is coming from a place of outraged love, to a degree than all but overwhelms Sonja.

It is a testimony to how well this show was written as well as the pacing. In only four seasons we saw each of the main characters go through transformation and whether it was a good or bad one it was always fascinating. My personal favority is Gaetta. Seeing him be such a loyal junior officer in CIC transforming to a different person (albeit misguided) speaks to the nature of this whole show. A few people left fighting for survival and trying to find a new home.....always on the run....always losing more people in the process and the Cylons constant persecution of the Rag Tag Fleet. Those daily pressures caused many crew members to go crazy with some opting to kill themselves. Bravo BSG writing team,

Ah very interesting thought. I get that the stars are a symbol of authority, respect, power, rank, etc, but at the end of the day they're two hunks of metal that Gaeta can barely even stand to look at. Hoshi gives them back to Adama saying they were heavy. The show seems to hint that without Adama the fleet will just fall apart several times. I don't think Gaeta ever wears them.

@@tails0420ify No. Quality is what the owners decide the price tag says it is. I am not saying 2004 BSG wasn't pure awesome (it was!), but I AM saying prices are arbitrarily inflated on everything today simply because they can.

Look at the world through Gaeta's eyes, everything he did was completely rational. It just all went so wrong. Dee's death kind of broke him, and after that it was just one bad decision after another. His fate really was a tragic one, even more because literally everything he did would've seemed "right" from his own perspective.
