Reactions to series that are longer than 6-10 episodes usually get low view numbers compared to movies. If you're monetizing, the cost:benefit ratio can be too high. Plus, this series was amazing for about 2.5 seasons. Then it became a hot mess. And the ending was a muffled fart.

"I don't want to speculate, I just want to watch the next episode please." "I can see why this took off. It's very..." I think one of the notable things that works for the show is that it's both jarring and compelling. ASD (acute stress disorder; psychological shock/trauma) as a form of stimulant in entertainment. In our daily lives, we typically make choices to live in security and repose. But we can still taste the intensity when we watch a show of dangers and strange ideas. We respond to the threat, our response systems trigger to alertness, and our minds flourish.

It's pretty impressive how well this show turned out considering how cheesy the original show as at times. Edward James Olmos loved the script but had requirements for the show: " I don’t want to see any four-eyed people, or weird jellyfish people, or weird outer-space people. Creature From The Black Lagoon-ish type of people. I don’t want things that are out in outer space; you get to this world and all the sudden they have these creatures, giant creatures.’ I said, ‘I don’t want to see any of that.’" "I will be very honest with you, on my contract I put down that if I see someone that is like that, like some kind of science fiction-type idea of some weirdness out in space, I am going to look at whatever it is that I’m looking at on camera, and I’m going to faint. And I said, ‘You’re going to have to write, ‘Adama died of a heart attack.’ You’re going to have to write me out. Because I’m out.’ [Laughs.] And so they chuckled and said, ‘No, we’re more to the understanding of Blade Runner.’ I said, ‘Now, that’s really good. There was no monsters in that, they were all human beings.’ Well, it was replicants and Cylons, but you know."

I am happy that you are watching this series. It is amazing. I liked the original, but I fell in love with this version. The entire cast are incredible. Edward James Olmos almost didn't play Adama. He wanted no aliens in the show. If he saw one, he would have a heart attack and leave the show. Starbuck was a man in the original series. Normally I am not a fan of gender or race swapping, because writers are lazy. They believe the character's only defining arc is due to their race or gender. Battlestar Galactica writers did not do this. Starbuck was an incredible well rounded charter with flaws and achievements. She ended up to be one of my favorite characters. I do not mind the swapping if the character is a person I can get into. I would love to watch you react to the entire series.. It is one hell of a ride and it will have you on the edge of your seats. This is not an improvement over the original. In the original they used energy-based weapons, not bullets and missiles, because this was for an advanced culture of humans that existed at the same time, not some 150,000 years before us. Characters were excluded, changed and the series became so convoluted as to not even be a re-make but a complete re-working. Heck, in this series they even changed the whole Boomer (who was a black man in the original), to Athena (who was actually the daughter of Adama but excluded for some reason and made into a new character).

The quick zooms during the space scenes add a feeling of reality to the situation which kind of tricks your brain to go along with it.

What a nice surprise!!! I absolutely LOVE this show. The 70s original was cheesy as hell - this reboot was a sharply written and well directed character-driven affair with exceptional performances all around. In particular, the pilot miniseries and the first proper episode are master classes in tautly-constructed scifi television the likes of which hadn't really been done before. Edward James Olmos is always riveting; Katie Sackhoff (as Kara "Starbuck" Thrace) is absolutely luminous in a down-to-earth way (if you'll pardon the expression), playing a character that was male in the original show; Jamie Bamber (Lee "Apollo" Adama) perfectly embodies the mix of rage and family and integrity and frailties and it was only much later that I learned even his accent was part of his mostly masterful performance (he's British). I could keep going because pretty much the entire cast is wonderful to watch. Thanks for this early birthday present!

Don't get me wrong. The original had some good things too it but it never really said desperation. E.g, when Galactica took Damage in the newest version, that damage carried over. To the point where five years of constant pounding plus shortcuts in its build led to it literally falling apart. Also even things like the fighters. Felt more real. How they were running out of parts and couldn't replace them so easily. Shame the Pegasus was destroyed so quickly. And the character interactions too. All I said was above could be said of Babylon 5 too. In Babylon 5 the story mattered because it was planned. The characters were engaging. The different races have different tech levels. Good and evil were constantly blurred. Characters went through arcs.. Brilliant..

I think the general consensus is that the 2003 series is better. The original series had only one season with 24 episodes and I'm willing the bet the vast majority that know about it only know because of the 2003 series.

The BSG you are watching is the re imagined version of the original series from 1978. If you do a deep look you will see hints thruout the reboot pilot. Original cylons and base stars are a part of the museum. The music being played during the retirement ceremony is the original theme. The Galactica itself bears a striking resemblance to the original, as do the mk II Vipers. Many of the names are recylcled as well, Starbuck, Apollo, Adama and so on. This reboot is one of the few times a reboot was done right. But I have to admit, I still have a special place in my heart for the original as I grew up with it. The original opening is as follows : "There are those who believe that life here began out there, far across the universe, with tribes of humans who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians, or the Toltecs, or the Mayans. They may have been the architects of the great pyramids, or the lost civilizations of Lemuria or Atlantis. Some believe that there may yet be brothers of man who even now fight to survive far, far away, amongst the stars." The original also ended with the following : "Fleeing from the Cylon tyranny, the last Battlestar, Galactica, leads a rag-tag fugitive fleet on a lonely quest. A shining planet, known as Earth"

This series was/is addicting (for me & most who saw it weekly back in the day). I was never really able to put my finger on why, exactly. Then recently i saw an interview with Edward James Olmos (Commander Adama)...long after the series had ended. When he was asked to star in it, he agreed on 1 condition.... the writers make it about the characters more than the tech or battles. They did that throughout, which along with the underlying mystery of the Cylons held our interest through the years. Enjoy the ride. 👍

We find our later that there are multiple classes of Battlestar, Galactica is one of the oldest ones since she fought in the first war. She's kind of like the USS Intrepid or USS Constitution; they are keeping her as a museum because of her historical significance. The newer ones have the ability to do things like build new starfighters from scratch, but are helpless against the Cylons because of the computer networks they can slice into.

I've literally seen all of a minute and 10 seconds and I just HAD to point out how much I love that ya'll went from referencing The Office to literally sounding like one of their scenes. The way the husband goes "What if its like Stargate? Or Star Wars?" And the way wifey responds "Well it could be all of those" reminds me of The Office scene where Dwight is eating all his canned food and explaining how disaster could be tomorrow. And Jim responds, "It could be in a month. 2 months."

They both had the same problem. The writers didn't have a complete idea of where either show would end up. That less excusable for Battlestar Galactica as they ended the show on their own terms after 4 seasons. I give Lost more of a pass because they were one of the biggest shows in the world and there was a lot of pressure to keep things going past where they probably should have ended around season 3 or 4. Instead they ended up going further then they wanted to and didn't have anything planned to explain it all. Which is why it doesn't get explained. Actually, I think the ending of 'How I Met Your Mother' may be my least favourite when it comes to this issue. For it's first few seasons the show was on the bubble so they rarely knew if they'd be coming back. Then the show got huge. Again, maybe 4 seasons would have worked because, while this show was pushed to keep going long after it should have ended they'd planned out the ending since the very first episode. They even filmed the kids responses years before the finale when they started getting too old. So now a show has an ending they're stuck with because they already set up the thing with Robin being the Aunt. It probably wouldn't have been so bad if they hadn't cast someone as amazing as Cristin Milioti to play the Mother only to kill her and have Ted go back to Robin who by the end of the series had just married Barney. It was an insane ending. They both new exactly where the show should go while also having no idea since they didn't evolve the idea and stuck with something they came up with almost a decade earlier.

I really like this show. Like the original it has Apollo and Starbuck but Starbuck is a woman in this one. Hope you continue with the series. It deals with real human issues while fighting space robots. Fun fact: The red "eye" that moves back and forth on the older Cylons is the same as Kitt on Knight Rider. The reason for this is Glen A. Larson created both shows.

The original BSG was funded by a church, maybe mormons? And, it's based on the story of exodus. The church wanted to capitalise on the huge success of star wars to get people interested in a bible story. I don't think BSG converted many people but the reboot also deals with religious themes.

If you guys are going to do the full run, let me advise the recommended playlist for all materials (this is basically chronological order of the presentation, as Razor, though takes place during the events of Season 2, was released after the conclusion of Season 3 and before the start of Season 4): 1. Miniseries. 2. Season 1 (complete run). 2. Season 2, Episodes 1-17. 3. Razor (TV Movie). 4. Season 2, Episodes 18- 20. 5. The Resistance (Web-Series). 6. Season 3 (complete run). 7. Season 4, Episode 1-12. 8. The Face of the Enemy (Web-Series. May have to look at other web hosting sites to find all ten episodes, as KZbin often has most of the episodes, but are often missing one or two of them. Dailymotion I think may have some of the missing episodes on there. The series isn't available on any physical releases, so it's hard to know if it's included in streaming. This series was originally hosted on the official SyFy site, but has long since been removed. It's not a requrement to watch it, but it does give an explanation behind one character's actions in the events of Episode 13 and 14. ). 9. Season 4, Episodes 13- 20 (Daybreak is listed as a 3 parter, so it may be seen as 21 episodes on some listings). 10. The Plan (TV Movie). There's also a couple of prequel works, a single season of Caprica and Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome. Both are optional. Not many people are fans of the Caprica series, but I certainly like it. But, to each their own.
