The Lu Wei Bing is a clear improvement on the classic Victor in terms of both looks and capabilities, though that comes at a price. Light Engines are damn expensive, but i like them the most, best ratio between safety and weight reduction out of all the Inner Sphere rectors. Modern twin light PPCs are reliable and accurate, their only drawback is the inimum range, but the MML launcher makes up for that in short range. Plus an ECM, that means suffering fewer hits, that´s always a plus.

The Capellans wanted even more salt in the Davions' wounds, so in addition to making the Victor, they gave it two larger brothers, the Lu Wei Bing and the Yu Huang. The Lu Wei Bing is a scary mech given how much ammo it carries for that LB-20X. Nice vid.

It's funny, everyone says Victor variant but my first thought was a Vindicator got really into weight lifting. Seems like an awesome mech in almost every situation, particularly with city fighting or close quarters situations. Armored, big gun, with some cloaking. Plus, economically and strategically sound with the easy maintenanceand repair. Agile brawler. Only complaint would be the missile system. Not bad as a support to finish an inclose hit or get the last ping on a runner, but like the ac5 in the 3025 era, feels like an after thought.

The MML5 is less than impressive at long ranges, but on the other hand it offers some tactical flexibility over a standard SRM rack. It’s an SRM with additional options, plus you can use specialty LRM ammo to lay down minefields or some other stuff. Which is also a known Capellan pastime.

Man, while the IS got somewhat of a tech jump by examining captured clan tech, I can't help but imagine what the clans would have faced if they invaded an IS that didn't make the rubble bounce with nukes, given it was closer than further to 300 years since they left, and what the IS was able to churn out roughly 100 years after the helm memory core. I suppose the performance of the clans in the dark age not being able to just roll over Cappellan forces with mechs like the Lu Wei Bing when there's very rough numerical parity as opposed to their initial stomp of the invasion corridor gives a clue. I'm sure a mechwarrior piloting a victor would have given a first, second, and third born child to be in a Lu Wei Bing instead!

Okay, if this would be a MW5 Mech, and because this isn't an omni Mech. So it have one big AC Weapon, one small to medium Missile and 2 medium Energy Weapon Slots. Which means, it could replace the LBX AC 20 with a Gauss, and both light PPC with ER L Laser or Pulse Laser. This would make Tonnage free, evtl. because I haven't have the Data of how heavy the Light PPCs are, for some more Double Heat sinks to compensate the extra heat from the new Energy Weapons. I know this may switch the Roles of that Mech, push it more in one direction as an Headhunter, but it may work good in that role. The only Minus I see in this right Arm is, that it could be easily disabled, more easy than a normal arm with Weapons attached to it. Also it could have a less good "range of fire" because of how it is mounted. It is more flexible than a Torso weapon yes, but for an "Arm" it is so unflexible like the Guns of a Black Jack or Rifleman. The Angel ECM sounds pretty cool and because of the Description here, I only see one System which against it maybe is Useless: TAG. At least until the Missiles are in it's "radius of action". For the MML, am not really good informed in how much they are different from normal SRM or LRM so i cannot say something to this. The Mech really sounds like a newer version of the Victor, bur with the quirk of a rigid kind of Gun instead of a right arm with build in weapons like the older model. Also there is only this one Model without alternative Configurations which maybe is, because it is so new or because of tech shortage in the capellan domain. So it may have some potential for improvements and Field versions. ^^ (Also, it have no CASE for it's ammunition? Strange...)

Now this is pretty interesting. I’ve stated before that I have some misgivings about assault mechs and the use of a lot of advanced tech but this is a pretty good response. Not for the first time the Capellans have a good head in their shoulders, I think the experience during the Succession Wars taught them that quantity and reliability of a quality all its own. It says a lot that these things are being produced in such numbers and are so easy to maintain that I’ve seen the drifting out into the periphery in the service of the Magistracy and the Concordat. And that easy to repair feature means that it’s easy to salvage so I’m sure there are plenty floating around in the chaos of the Free Worlds League, in remenant Republican forces, and whatever the hell is going on in the Suns. That alone is a testament to its quality. Overall, I like this machine a lot. It’s very much my style of a close ranged aggressive killer that also understands logistics. I’m not the biggest fan of how much ammunition it uses but nothings perfect. If you’d told me such a thing as a ‘Trooper’ assault mech existed I would have laughed in your face, until I saw this thing.

Right, get that MML5 off there, it's doing exactly sod-all and is fooling nobody. I have huge issues with the 'I'll have one of each' approach to arming a 'mech. Go big or go home. Use the saved space for MOAR AC AMMO SO YOU CAN DAKKA ALL DAY!!! Apart from that, this is a decent mech, I reckon! Nippy enough, good armour and it's got that sweet Jump-Jet and AC goodness I like, Though I'd personally prefer a UAC/10 because I like to be able to shoot the enemy from some sort of range, rather than having to stand next to them and fire the big-gun, and the beagle is delicious gravy. What can I say? AC/20's have their place, but for me, that place is absolutely not as a primary weapon. They're an 'I win' button for when things get messy and personal, in my book. Those are just my tweaks though - stock, it's a decent machine. Nice!
@44R0Ndin2 жыл бұрын
Sort of agreed, but I think a little differently. IMO a weapon that takes ammo means you need a supply line, and supply lines get cut easily. Energy boats are where it's at. But get that ER stuff outta here. Too much heat, even WITH IS DHS being reintroduced forever ago (from the Dark Ages perspective). Everyone seems to forget that even in the Dark Ages, you should respect anything that mounts an IS standard PPC. I don't mean the ERPPC, most of the time you can ignore units mounting more than one of those because they're spending every other turn not firing some of their weapons because of the "Oh my god everything's on fire" levels of heat the ERPPC puts out. The normal IS PPC has always hit like an AC-10 with more range, and yes, sure there's "some" heat to deal with but in the Dark Ages era IS double heat sinks have been re-introduced for a really long time and are more than capable. Don't waste heat on an ERPPC or ER Large Laser when you could mount TWO standard PPC's for only a little bit more heat, which literally doubles your DAMAGE provided both hit, and doubles your hit chance as well since you're firing 2 weapons instead of one. Range doesn't kill things. Nobody in an assault mech is scared of an LRM5 or an MML5 firing LRM ammo even if it does have a really long range. Damage on the other hand, that is exactly the thing that puts mechs, people, vehicles, and practically everything else out of action provided you can apply enough of it. The only two advanced PPC relavant technologies that I like are these: The Heavy PPC, and the PPC Capacitor. Ideally those two technologies would be combined. Doing that would create a great replacement for the LBX-20 on the Lu Wei Bing. Notice how the way those two PPC technologies I mentioned improve on the original PPC "recipe" is that they let it do more DAMAGE, in exchange for it taking more weight and/or crit slots. More damage kills things quicker. More range kills things the same speed, further away. As for the rest of the weapons on the Lu Wei Bing, I have more plans: Ideally the MML5, its two tons of ammo, and the 2 Light PPCs would then be replaced by a combination of Snub Nose PPCs (which let you deal DAMAGE with NO minimum range, a shortcoming of most kinds of PPC that even I'll admit is sometimes a reason to fit an IS ERPPC on a "short ranged" mech), PPC Capacitors for said SNPPCs, and/or more DHS for keeping everything cool. Alternatively, if the heatsinking needs are extreme (and with this many PPCs on board that's probably the case), I would instead cover the minimum range bracket with 4 medium pulse lasers and the rest would be double heatsinks. Am I stupid or is ammo stupid? I try to make it so that the only thing in my lances that carries ammo is the LRM carriers or artillery vehicles or Arrow IV vehicles.

Just a point of order here. Once you hit the 70 ton+ for inner spere mechs you have two options. Guns or speed. To deride a mech for going 65kph at 85 tons is just, well, silly. Even with super chargers, MASC and other options the tradeoff is too great. You can be the quickest mech in the world but if you dont bring enough guns to the fight its not worth the BV. For inner sphere mechs, if you're crunching cost to capability ratio your best option is a slower but more heavily armed and armored machine. Speed is life yes but honestly for heavy and assault units your best defense is "Kill the bastard first and who cares about running"

Lu Wei Bing ... is going to sand paper you to death? LBX scatter shot makes this gun perform like a short ranged LRM. Use solid rounds or just mount a LRM-20 and use the saved weight to mount 4 medium lasers. The MML-5 is "efficient" if you were seriously thinking about using a SRM-6 and a LRM-5 on a mech... but even as a bonus the extra ton of LRM ammo probably could of been spent on a better weapon system. Compared to a Battlemaster the Lu Wei Bing is just under gunned. The 8 tons assigned to jump jets could make a huge difference in changing up the weapons package for this mech to make it armed like an actual front line assault mech, but that would cripple the mobility the Lu Wei Bing is gambling on to give it the edge it needs to win an engagement with other assault mechs. Even comparing the Lu Wei Bing to Victor variants from the same era show the Lu Wei Bing in a poor light. Any of the 10 series of Victors is better armed, though not as armored. I honestly think the better weapons packages of the Victors give them a better chance of winning than the slightly better armor of the Lu Wei Bing. The Lu Wei Bing looks good compared to a Victor... the original stock model used during the succession war.

But the beauty of the LB-20X, is that you can take both solid and cluster ammo.

Glory is forbidden to Capellans. They can't have nice things.

If that were the case, then why do they own like, most of the Republic Territories near their border? XD

LBX-20 is garbage screws up this entire build. The scatter gets wide too fast. It would have been better off ‘downgrading’(upgrading) to LBX-10 for tighter grouping at close range for better armor penetration/critical chance, or longer projectile velocities to carry out to share distance with its other armament. Its is certainly not an enemy assault killer, as the bigger ones utterly rape at medium laser/AC-20 ranges(180-270 meters), which can be managed easily on visual spotting alone. Its best bet would have been to dictate range as the faster mech, and keep battles at 300-400+, where much of the longer range firepower such as missiles, can be warded off better with its ECM.

Why would you name your Mech after an ancient search engine owned by one of the most evil companies in Earth's history? I smell ComStar conspiracy here...

I don't care how much of a bastard Alaric is, I'd still root for him over Daoshen "Hey, sis, let's make a baby" Liao any day of the week. And yes, I say that being aware of Alaric's parentage. No one gets to choose who their parents are. The 'Mech looks pretty sweet, though. Even if I greatly prefer the Suns, it's nice to see the Cappellan Confederation slowly pulling away from being the Zoidberg of BattleTech.

No matter how good the mech is, it's Capellan, therefore it's garbage.
