Onenote for all generic heroes that have a fight immediately after ability. They can take the quicksilver draught to give themselves strike-first and the FAQ means that if your opponent doesn't have any strike first units, you can activate the ability and have the secondary unit fight right after, effective gives the opportunity for strike first on any eligible unit and that hero in an enemy combat phase. It can also be used offensively in your turn to give you a full 3 activations, again assuming the opponent doesn't have any strike first units.

@@thehonestwargamerstreams Really the point of it is that you chain off that hero into your big unit for massive damage before your big unit even gets hit. That's where the juice is.

@@Strade8 Depends who's turn it is. So lets say it's the enemy's turn with those stipulations. Opponent's strike first goes through, then your strike first. If your strike first is a hero that lets another unit fight after then it's 1 of your friendlies near it, then your opponent and so forth. If you don't have that then it goes (assuming enemy's turn): Enemy strike first, your strike first, opponent's unit, your unit, back and forth. If it's your turn it starts with you following the same pattern I showed here.

Rob, as a new AoS player whom is working on a Stormcast list that is not only competitive, but fun to play, this video has been extremely helpful. I've gotten my butt kicked with my current list and am re-working it with help from this video. It's hard to theorize what is good and what isn't when you're a new player and you've really helped me narrow down what units I want and how to spend my hobby money. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into this and the sheer level of detail you went into.

i just picked up the skaventide box to hop into AoS. your overviews and opinions are helpful in helping me understand the game more. i've watched some spearhead so far, but haven't looked at the full game rules much yet. glad to see some of the stormcast models i've most wanted (Stormcoven, Vigilors) aren't going to be just for fun paint projects, but will get fielded.

The Knight Relictor can only take Warrior Chamber units which restricts your Ruination Formation. Would rather have the Lord Relcitor who can add Ruination Chamber units, Warrior Chamber Units and 0-1 Knight Exemplar Heroes for 130 points. The reason why Reclusions are becoming popular is because they are 140 points for a unit of 3 and they are usually reinforced have 3 health each, Save 3+ ,3 attacks and they have a champion for an extra attack. They resistance non-core and there are a lot of characters that can buff them. Lord Terminos has a similar movemet and can make them attack immediately after he resolves his combat and they get a +1 to hit and Blessed Weapons with accces to a lot of heals. Lord Terminos recently had his points reduced to 150 points and he hits hard and has the ruination ability.

I'm getting into 4e after playing during 2e. What I've found is that A) the Warrior Chamber battle formation is logistically difficult to pull off in both on-table play and list building, B) there's not much worth buffing out of the Warrior Chamber except Annihilators, C) my nearly 100% Sacrosanct army is going to be doing a lot of proxying from now on. I like the concept of the Ruination Chamber but it feels like there's not a good "ah yes, this is the unit I base my army around" unit. It's mostly just heroes. It feels like it's missing an additional non-hero unit.

Vanguard Wing needs to be like guaranteed or maybe on a 2+. Seems like such a feels bad to not get a formation ability if you roll a couple 1's and 2's on it the whole game.

@@lemursteaks Its not about the stats for me. I wanted the warhammer that 2(or 3?) different settings are named after to be special. Slayer of Kings has a fun rule. Maybe Ghal Maraz could have "If this weapon kills an enemy hero, on a 4+ replace a hero that died" to evoke its purifying nature like it did successfully with Tornus. The whole warscroll is just boring. Ofc there exist a points cost where this is a good unit. I'm just sad this guy is outshined in terms of flavor. And all they had to do was keep his cool : pick 1 roll to force from 3rd ed.

First: Happy Birthday Rob! I really enjoy your content. For me it is you and (as a SCE player) of course the guys from Stormkeep, that make the best content on KZbin. I wish we Germans had some creators that would only be half as good as you are. I did the math with yout 100 shots of Vanguard-Raptors with Hurricane Crossbows. I don't like the outcome and I even don't think it is very fun, because you have to bring an additional bucket to roll all the dice... Here is the damage, if they have +1 to hit because of the Aetherwings. Left is enemay save, right is damage: 2+ 5.14 3+ 10.29 4+ 15.43 5+ 20.57 6+ 25.72 - 30.86 These seem like okay numbers, but if you consider it is half your army.... well, does not feel right for me. Of course you could also include 6 Longstrikes to give your opponent one of the worst experiences in his AoS life and shoot all the chaff AND a monster/hero off the board... untill you meet StD or any other army with high safes. PS: Got get that potato machine!

Thank you for the video and break down! I like your generally positive attitude through out the review, and the optimistic outlook on many units. I'm a little tired of how stormcast get treated in their tomes. The generic (non-priest/wizard) heroes are generally always mediocre, and the book always hard pushes the brand new subfaction. This edition looks fun, but I'm still a little down after finding out huge chunks of my army became "legends", and I personally don't like the "grim dark" of the new subfaction, and I'm not really a fan of the thunderstrike style armour. I'd play my ironjawz, but they aren't great right now (fingers crossed they get rid of the momentum stuff for the big pigs).

As a stormcast player I am depressed, literally nothing changed from the index except the comet casting on 8 instead of 7. Stormcoven will be cool but everything else staying the same means we'll see the same lists as before. New units all look poopy.

So big GW has to squat some, although only to instantly release new models, so it is w bit counter intuitive for a player with an army. Still in reality the actual model range of stuff worth taking is very small for SCE . Why can't knight heroes be slotted in to detachments of lords? Why force people in to running special characters to get access to units like long strikes? Multiple melee infantry units and most of them do nothing. Two chaff units, but one is clearly superior to the other. There is no Less efficient k but have cool utility. Then there is the whole new starter thing. One would expect that the models in a starter should make core of a list or even multiple lists. A new player should feel good about what he bought. He shouldn't learn that in order to play for real , he has to ditch everything , and start buying those dragons, longstrikes , spells&buildings etc

I just now realize that Bless weapons "upcast" on a 12+ says all stormcast units, so is it no longer limited to infantary then? Still need an infantry unit to be the initial target, but RAW would suggest that on a 12+ also non-infantry (and I think even heroes and monters with the SCE keyword) would get the +1?

I think the ruination chamber ability of ignoringing non-core abilities on a 4+ can be very effective against covering fire, as it is non-core. Will an opponent choose to spend a CP with a 50% chance of it not working?

Shouldn't your 6th cup bearer carry the box with buildings, dice, spells etc. The first and second carry you, the third carries the heroes, the fourth takes care of the units box, then there is the monsters box guy. All nicely topped off by eight peasents who drag the wagon you all are one.

Don’t sleep on the reclusians, they don’t seem exciting in paper but a reinforced unit with bless weapons is doing 25 attacks with crit mortals (2). That’s getting around all the high armor saves and ethereal saves and just putting damage through. AND if you run the ruination battle formation you’re giving 5+ wards every hero phase. It’s surprisingly tanky too

Great vid as always! Yndrasta yessssss!!! I agree with the battleline being a bit junk, sad to see given that so much of the sce identity is quality frontline brawlers. I think they should push their infantry up in quality and cost and make them standout a bit more as an elite infantry army. Overall I'm still a Yes to running sce and experimenting with them because there is so much fun to be had! Might not 5-0 my local meta but fun is worth more than a win. Another great video - thanks Rob. Honestly not bothered that Tornus is lame as his mini is AMAZING! Think you’re right about G dubs not really understanding their own IP when it comes to Stormcast, they keep trying to fit them into a pseudo Space Marine mold but they are actually far more interesting and morally nuanced - I feel that they should feel more like a cross between Custodes and High Elves of old. Still it looks like a fun book.

I would honestly point out that you think Iridan's Ruination Chamber ability only triggering on a 4+ is unreliable, but a Ward 5+ is somehow the pinnacle of survivability. Being able to cancel one non-Core ability a turn on a 50/50 chance is great (how many non-core abilities will target him in a given turn?), while having the potential to negate any point of damage on a roughly 30/70 chance is okay (would a 5+ save characteristic on Nighthaunt be just as good or better?) I just think that, while good, you have an odd fixation on ward rolls, despite how rare they genuinely are. They are good to have, but judging someone as "not great" because it doesn't have an in-built ward is odd given how few things in any given army get wards.

Karazai Dragon moves 12 to be at 6 inch charge, deep strike praetors at 9 inches away from unit about to die, charge dragon, dragon base is over 6 inch so always with 3 of bodyguard. Eat all enemies, heal with banner man

I've played two games with a list that included Hurricane Raptors and what i can say : - they are far worse from their E3 counterpart (their dmg output is literally halved) - they are still strong (quite good dmg output, especially against infantry, plus they are relatively cheap) - they really fall behind against tougher enemies (having no rend makes them borderline useless in few cases) - I honestly would not dare to use Aetherwings as obj scorers, their utility is simply too good (especialy if you have 2+ VGR units)

First off Happy birthday Rob!!🥳🎉, and thank you for the video. Stormcast seem very bland and they missed the mark, heros with subpar attacks and auto wound???? Like wtf is this shit on 3 attacks? Make it crit mortals or just add more attacks or rend? Having all these units but then having them in regiments is terrible as you want to bring more heros, but they don't do much. Lord terminos should be like a sub hero, like the banner and knight questor. All these small heros should be able to be picked if you bring a bigger hero. All the new stuff looks amazing but missed mark again and looks trash on the battle field, Iridan the witness he looks mediocre and just bring Ionus. The points in 4th is very high and most of these maybe make it into the list are just too high and don't. I would have like to seen better wargear for more flavour, but seems like the Dais is all we get ....which is just a moving vortex that was removed from the game years ago lol. And WHY!!!! Doesn't Ionus have a rampage????? Please explain to me why a hero on a DRAGON!!! DOESN'T HAVE A RAMPAGE!!! 🤬. Are they dead and need to be shelved no, but GW definitely missed the mark on them, which is sad.

The terrain piece seems really good. You can actually buff units then teleport then. Hate faction terrain as a thing. More to buy. Free in game and no way to balance across the game. Burt yeah. It's not bad

Thanks for great video I'm really disapointed by this battletome which is almost "now you pay your index" All new models have sad rules, new terrain make priests definitively out of the lists, all bloated warscrolls remain bloated (so much dust on Annihilators & Gardus)

Incredible how nothing changed from the index and the new units are all total ass. SCE have so many units but only a handful are actually fun or flavourful. Stormcast are supposed to be elite and heroic and then you get stuff like Dracoths which are 10 wounds for 230 points with Rend -1. Yeah, compare that to Dawnriders or most of the other 5 man cavalry. Redeemers all do absolutely nothing and have zero distinct roles between them. That means that once again the cheapest one of them that does the most damage will be picked exclusively and the rest will never see play. And we see this pattern repeat through out the book. The internal balance is horrible and there's hardly anything here that makes you feel like you are playing an army of heroes handpicked by a god and imbued with his essence.

Iridan for 220-250 to clock in sounds about right. But he'll probably be 300+, let's be honest. Comparing him to the mounted heroes, who are already between 200 and 300 points and considering Iridans 12 health he's clearly meant to be "bigger". And even if his warscroll doesn't support 300 points, that's where he'll end up. I've had the Knight Vexillor next to Krondys and Praetors before and let me tell you, it broke my opponents spirit x) You also kinda glanced over the +3 Control score he gives the D3 units he picks. That is a big deal alone before you even consider the healing potential. Liberators roll is shared with all the other foot-sloggers. Running for the cheapest to be sitting around as screens and speedbumps. If they are the cheapest, you take them, if not, you don't. Why the fuck do the Dracothian Guard units only have 5 health in units of 2? They should be more burly than the speedy Vanguard Palladors, so why not give them 7 Health each or something in trade-off for all the bonus abilities that Vanguard Palladors get. And then Palladors are around the same price for 3 compared to 2 Dracoth guards... I'm so fucking angry about my boys getting shafted like this x)

Stoked the battletome didn’t change. Not stoked about the lack of hero options. May still have to run krondys and knight vex till some points drop. Also the internal balance still seems off, especially with the cavalry

Stormstrike Palladors are great. Literally just sacrifice a unit of Vanquishers by having them kill a chaff screen (which is their job anyway) and then get picked up, and boom: every Palladors unit has fight first and reroll charges. I mean, you’re going to be losing units anyway, that’s how AOS works. At least with this you’re getting something from it, *and* this will work on multiple Palladors with the loss of a single cheap unit. There’s literally 0 downside. Tbh this whole review could be renamed ‘Honest Wargamer doesn’t understand Stormcast.’
