Wow 4,000 views - that's a big number for me! Thanks for watching! I'm going to film an update to this review shortly to go over wear and tear and what's been replaced since this video. Let me know if you have any questions or thoughts of your own about Bauer NS skates and I hope to reply or feature that in the future video. - George

I`ve just ordered similar from the same shop. I`m excited but also a little skeptical about the amount of ankle support they provide compared to my old Bauer 33 turbos.
@MisterSkids69 Жыл бұрын
Not much to compare with but the ankle support seems adequate. However, they have no flex unlike the Bauers. Some people will tell you that makes a big difference.

Nice video. I haven't skated since the late 80's when I still lived in London. I'm thinking about getting a pair of skates for fun with my son, plus exercise as well. There are a few options, both budget and more expensive so I'm not sure what to go for yet. I definitely want the bauer style as I used to use roces back in the day. I would be interested to hear anyones take on the budget skates available, like the United skates vx4 or the ventro turbos.
@MisterSkids692 жыл бұрын
I've only really skated my Bauers but have had enough conversations with people about their skates to be able to offer some anecdotal advice. The Ventros aren't as nice as the Bauer Turbos used to be, the plastics not the same and more brittle. You can buy Supreme Turbos which are better, but these get up in price. Roces seem like mainly an inline company at this point, with their roller skate range being on the cheap boot, plastic truck end of things. Most cheap skates will be fine for starting out, but often have hard, small wheels which aren't ideal for skating on the streets. So you might expect to have to spend £50 or so on wheels in order to get cheaper boots up to a nice skating level. Once you consider this it might be the wiser route to buy some more expensive skates from the off - saving money you money when you later would decide you need to upgrade. Skates get expensive so if the mid range options are looking cost prohibitive, then buy what you can and enjoy getting into skating. At the end of the day having some skates is better than not having them, and better wheels can always be purchased down the line. Sorry for an essay of a reply!

@@MisterSkids69 Thanks for the reply bro, really appreciate the info. I kinda figured the same, it makes more sense to spend more now than 6 months down the line on another pair. I've ordered some Bauer xlp's and went with colour coded plates and trucks, I'm itching for them to come, I'll stick with the rink ratz wheels they come with for now and didn't upgrade the bearings yet. I loved my old Roces but the pro 80's just dont look the same to me. Watching videos like yours have made the decision much easier for me and I look forward to any more you upload. Thanks again 🤜🤛.

How comfortable are they? How long can you go wearing them?
@MisterSkids693 жыл бұрын
Literally wear them from 9am to 9pm some days. They can hurt the balls of your feet, I've thought about getting insoles but it's never been that bad. Wear long socks and they're proper comfortable. You can also bake them to mold them to your feet. Haven't tried this so can't say much on that.

@MisterSkids69 Жыл бұрын
Not sure myself, but have heard they're a bit heavier. Have you compared to the Ventro turbos? Look like the design is also based on the old Bauer/Supreme Turbos but the Roces look better than the Ventros.

Hey Sean, still running my Airwaves and they're not showing any signs of giving up! Next up is going to be Street Snakes for me. The Quantums look sick but I don't think I've chatted with anyone that uses them. Looks like they're a little smaller and a little harder than my Airwaves though. Price looks good so let me know if they impress you!

Brighton - the war on cars here has lead to some lovely skating space, albeit intended for walking and cycling. Alternatively, great for walking too 😉

I really wanna get into skating as I’m pretty confident on the ice the one time of year I ice skate. Tried Bauer in-line hockey skates a year and a bit ago but completely lost confidence as they hurt my feet, had no heel or toe brakes 😅 but now I’m tempted to try some quads as it looks like there’s way more stability
@MisterSkids692 жыл бұрын
I skated inlines years ago but reckon I found the skates a bit easier to start using. You can just stand on one foot and you've got a whole platform below you from the 4 wheels. It's not going to make it impossible to fall over obviously, but worth a crack!

How do your toes feel???
@MisterSkids692 жыл бұрын
These boots fit me well, so toes don't feel bad. I assume you're asking this since NSs don't have toe padding while newer X-LPs and others have a foam padding in the toe cap. It would be nice to have some toe padding for the occasions that I fall over or ride into something, but can't say I feel too bothered without. I knew someone that would cut up a sponge to create his own toe padding, but if buying new skates then the newer Bauer boots may be the way to go.

Are they lightweight?
@MisterSkids693 жыл бұрын
Short answer: No, dancing shoe style skates are normally going to be lighter. A pair of Moxis is lighter than these for example. The plates and wheels will make a difference too though. They're heavier than the dancing shoe type skates typically are but are lighter than Supreme Turbos. They don't feel that heavy on my feet though. I'm glad to have the support and sturdiness in them though. Seems like they'll last longer than fabric/leather skates because of the hard plastic construction.

Can't go wrong with krypto wheels you won't be disappointed. Bearing spacers are a must if they're not already fitted, they reduce the bearing being pulled into the wheel reducing friction prevents over tightening for perfect roll speed.
@MisterSkids693 жыл бұрын
Thanks JH, do you know anywhere that stock them? Are they still being made now or they all from years ago? I'd be tempted if they weren't so expensive!

Take the stoppers off altogether, loosen the trucks for quick angling, get sims or cruisers as they are exactly the same
@MisterSkids692 жыл бұрын
Cheers, have changed a lot since this video including new plates with much softer cushions. Sticking with the airwaves because the size makes them roll fast with not much effort but do own street snakes. Also have changed stoppers for little jam plugs which makes things look a bit more finished.

I’m a size UK8.5, would you recommend me getting a size UK8 or UK9?
@MisterSkids693 жыл бұрын
So they all come in half sizes but are supposed to fit the full size below. So 8.5 is 8. Probably best to go size 8, what are you basing your foot being 8.5 off of though? I was told it should be based off of boot size not trainer size as there's a lot of variation in trainers.
@nathe94743 жыл бұрын
@@MisterSkids69 thanks for this. I was basing it off trainer size as all of them are UK8.5 except my Air Force 1s which are UK8 as they are wider. In boot size, once again it depends on whether the boot is narrow or wide.
@MisterSkids693 жыл бұрын
@@nathe9474 I bought mine from Oli's skate shop and I will say they were great with returns (I bought too big to begin with). They sent a courier with new boots and swapped them over so I had minimum possible wait. I'd just suggest buying a pair and seeing what they're like. Sounds like an 8/8.5 would be the way to go (by this I mean box size 8.5), but don't be scared to return them if they don't fit! You want these to be pretty spot on for the best skating 🙂

@@MisterSkids69 the old skool skaters love their sims because they were the must have wheel back in the day, seems like a nostalgia thing. Those wheels are NOT like Sims Street Snakes, they are a totally different shape of wheel with a wider contact area and a square outside wheel edge and much more clumsy to skate on. Airwaves Street are like Sims street snake, both have a narrower contact area and have rounded outside edges and are a way nicer wheel to skate on and more agile too. I have a pair of Bauer NS and they have sat in the cupboard since the first skate on them, the boot is stiff as concrete and has ZERO upper flex and if your a fast skater who relies on upper bot flex and uses hard bushes that are also tightened down to limit truck steer when powering though bends, they are not the skate for you. I ended up going back to my Bauer Turbo's for a while and then replaced them with Supreme Turbo's which have upper boot flex and suit my skating style.
@MisterSkids693 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, thanks for the comment! I highlighted that the hardness of the Air Waves (78a) is similar to Sims Street Snakes (also 78a) which I think holds true. Interesting to know about the differences in bevel and contact area though so thank you. I'm keen to try out some Street Snakes but the diameter of the Air Waves makes these so nice for cruising along the Brighton roads, especially where some are a bit past their prime. I skateboard and enjoy cruising on a similar shape and sized wheel, but have used smaller, harder, and differently shaped wheels before. What do you think about Kryptronics Wheels Steve? I've had some people swear by them but can't read much about them anywhere... I understand that the Bauer/Supreme Turbos take up a higher price point than these NSs so would expect there to be some improvements. For me the solid boot helps me feel sturdy (not that I have much to compare it to), I feel like they'll last me!

@@MisterSkids69 What size of those Airwaves have you got 65 or 62mm as both sizes are available in that wheel. im sure you said 62, the Airwaves Street and Sims Street Snake are both 62mm and are the same diameter of wheel if you have 62mm and the diameter ive always skated on but with a different contact area and outside wheel shape as i said before. Never skated on Kryptos but the Krypto Cruise has rounded edges on the inside and outside of the wheel giving it a marginally smaller contact area than the Sims and Airwaves street wheels but should feel pretty much the same as its the outside edge that makes the biggest difference. The street wheels feel so much more agile than those Airwaves in this video, you would love them, i have both the Airwave and Sims street wheels here and they are essentially identical in every way except name and i cannot feel any difference between the two to skate on. Worn wheels? you should see the set of Airwaves i have that are the same as what your skating on at the moment, im a very hard skater and i wore the fronts from 62mm to 54mm lol. Thats not caused by dragging the wheels, i dont do that, its pure wear from hard and fast skating on tarmac :) Bauer Turbos are stupid money now but also very brittle due to the age of them, i have cracked two pairs of them and as much as they are a fashion thing as its what i skated on as a teen, i moved over to the Supreme Turbos because they are basically identical but have the durability! If you were someone who speed skates a lot like me, i think you would see what i mean about boot flex, i have hard bushes and have them tight and use upper boot flex to get an angle through my ankles as i lean in turns. With the NS i couldn't do that and no matter how much i played with the trucks i couldn't find a happy medium and they had to have the trucks fairly soft which results in over-steer when powering though bends and they tried to kill me ha ha. Its a real shame as the NS are a very nice looking boot but i just cant get along with them :( As for Olis, i know Karl and Alison who own the business, they also run a roller disco near me (Olis Roller Disco) , they are a family run business and are a family of skaters- Oli is their oldest child which is where the name came from, he also used to handle the DJ part of the disco. They are a nice bunch who deserve our custom.
@MisterSkids693 жыл бұрын
Mine are 65mm - 5'8" so I need all the help I can get ;) I'll look at getting Street Snakes. I wanted to get one of each colour for each wheel but they're not available as mixed sets... Tempted to buy 4 packs and sell the left over sets of mismatched wheels.
@stevefox37633 жыл бұрын
@@MisterSkids69 i think you will like the smaller wheels, the airwaves like your using now that i had were 62mm until i wore the fronts down to 54mm lol but the 65mm are massive and very clumsy to skate on and also have a massive amount of wheel flex which zaps your power! since killing those wheels ive gone back to skating on only the street wheels and loving them. on paper they look the same width but if you hold them side by side you can see the difference in contact area and shape and the feel very different and much more agile, that rounded outside edge makes a huge difference! The 62mm Airwaves 'USA' take 8mm spacers if you ever try those, the 65 you have now take a 10mm spacer, the Airwaves street take a 10mm spacer but the Sims Street Snake take 8mm. If you go for a separate set of wheels for indoor use only, i highly recommend ceramic hybrid bearings (all ceramic balls in metal inner and outer races), they are so fast to skate on but i dont recommend them for outside use as violent shock 'can' crack a ceramic ball. I also recommend you ignore the misinformation out there in some places you look that ceramic do not need lubrication, they do but you can use very light oil like sewing machine lubricant.
