The original sometimes sounds to germanophones the way engrish sounds to anglophones. I wouldn’t say it’s mispronounced, but quirky for sure. Although I’m not sure how close Mika’s version is to natural sounding pronunciation for this particular song, her performance for “Call of Silence” sounded like natural English. I’d like to hear Paperblossom also do a cover of “Call of Silence,” since she does some English ones too.

Not German but studied German. In German as in Japanese nearly always the word is pronounced the way it is written, but Mika sometimes did not pronounce ending properly like "heiss wind" instead of "heisser wind". Plus I always hear her sing "a jenem tag" when it should be 'an jenem tag'.

Well german does have its problems but they are more related to some odd grammatic stuff we do.

South Germanic is known to be a bit harsh sounding (especially when spoken by a male) while northern Germanic is known to sound like a melody when spoken. All languages has their charms, including German.

It sounds like German! I know I sound really stupid when I say that, because PB is German and so is the song, but wow! The difference between this cover and Mika's version is uh large for lack of a better word. Mika's isn't bad that said. It sounded amazing; she, as a Japanese and non-German person, had a hard time pronouncing the words as they should have been pronounced. Both are great in different ways. Glad I found this though. It's amazing.

Im no linguist at all… but i guess my ears n how pronounce stuff can say this: Japanese words tend to focus at the front of the tongue. Thats y its pretty easy to pronounce japanese coz most of the vocab sounds very precise. The german tongue is abit harsher. More focus on the back of the tongue. So the “ghh” sound is more pronounced. I cant recall any “ghh” sounds in the japanese language. And it doesnt help that the japanese phonetics have zero “ghh” sounds. That strong “g” is pretty much absent. So for mika nakashima - the original singer - to even sing a full german song.. well, not bad.

There are some japanese musical groups that sings Brazilian Portuguese music, and they also have a hard time trying to pronounce the words. But I don't know which language they do better since I don't know how to speak German.

Als ich erstmals herausgefunden habe, dass das deutsche Lyrics sind und ich da einen genaueren Blick drauf geworfen hatte war das sehr cringe und der Text hätte mir das Lied beinahe ruiniert. It's really funny even though I can speak German, I like the original version better, don't get me wrong it's not the singing, PB did this just amazing when it comes to the singing skills, even almost better than the original, but it's just the pronunciation, it somehow sounds cooler when you don't understand it, the words sound like a mix of Japanese and German language, people hate on that but I just love it, anyways great cover. :D

Can confirm. Japanese pop songs sound a lot more cool and profound when you don't understand Japanese. Understanding the languages takes away some of the magic (the magesty?). The same also applies to English. English is not my native language. When I was young I used to listen to Disney cartoon and movie songs, etc, and it felt much more profound when I didn't know what they were saying.

I heard this cover 7 years ago and all these years I thought it was original 😂 I listened to Mika Kobayashi's version and unfortunately I cannot say I liked it. The cover is much better.
