Couple of suggestions from an old man. For blizzard camping find a space in the trees where you aren't directly under them, but very close. That will keep snow accumulation to a minimum. We also put down a bed of branches when we camped in the open. I never really used a tent, just a a staked up tarp. The branches we covered with a horse blanket, and a 'hack' I learned as a teen was to use blow-up pool mattresses to with another horse blanket on top. As for sleeping bags I still have a Korean Era winter down filled mummy with an inner and outer liner. It's lasted since the 1980's. As for your camp stove, find a $5 simmer plate it keep the direct heat off of cheap camping cookware. You can wrap a steak up in tin foil with potatoes, carrots and onions with some herbs and spices and cook it directly on the simmer plate or coals in a fire pit. Tonight, in my very well insulated tiny off-grid cabin it's about -10 degrees outside. I know a little about staying warm. well, my old dog is snoring and I'm gonna read a bit in bed before I drift off. Really enjoyed your video. Godspeed & bless, David Hanna

You must have had 2.5 to 3 feet of snow to dig out. Carry an Ace Bandage w/ you. Never know. Pulling that sled requires leg power. If u get hurt on lower extremities, bandage might be enough support to aid your departure. Just a thought. Don't know how you feel about it, but do you know that you spent ⅓of the total vid shoveling snow? Well edited considering you stayed inside. Glad you took the insulated tent. Be safe. God bless.

Never used metal stakes before in winter snow camping. I use about a 8-10-inch branch that might be an inch or more in diamiter. I wrap the guide rope around the branch, then dig a hole and bury the stick sideways. It set up in a few minutes and provides a very secure anchor.

Cool video! Really liked the air insulated tent. Two other suggestions on heating up the tent, in a safer way, that you might want to try out on another trip: 1 - Leave the snow piling up around the tent and maybe even put it on the tent after setting it up. The snow will also act as another insulating layer. 2 - Hot water bottles, rather than the candle lantern. A hot bottle in the sleeping bag seems to be the way a lot of others go with.

@@BaumOutdoors Yes, my son uses a hot water bottle camping. Also, get a removable/washable soft/furry cover for it. I am already looking to buy one for my other son.

Hot water bottles only last for an hour in really cold Temps, then that bottle becomes your worst enemy..learn how to increase the R value, sleep in morano wool long John's, wear wool socks and gloves, keep a hat on when you sleep, I've slept in the mountains when it was 15 degrees out, also used a tarp pitched in an open A- frame set up with the cold air coming through relying only on my sleeping bag and my sleeping pad ..I slept like a baby, my friend on the other hand woke up freezing, he was using a tent which produced condensation. I'm not a fan of tents because of this ..condensation can kill you

@@gimmedahhcookies4341 If you are using a water bottle inside your sleeping bag and it goes from near boiling at the start to frozen while in your bag, then you yourself are probably dead from hypothermia. There's no world where you are comfortably warm inside the bag but your bottle freezes. A quality thermal bottle and quality winter bag will retain that warmth from the water and your own body heat forever.

I am moving to Fargo North Dakota this month. Couple more weeks left. This is what I’ve wanted to do my whole life. Winter camping. Winter survival. And after living in California desert my whole life, not ever seeing that kind of weather and not being able to travel out to experience it. I’m finally able to put those plans into play. Winter camping in North Dakota. Wooohoooo. Can’t wait.

I see other people did give you a few ideas but you don't have to be just like them. Tents and camping is a lot of fun. Chili was a good choice for a meal. I like to add a baked potato or two cut up into little slices into the chili. The baked potatoes can be baked and made before you get to site and then just slice and drop in. Stretches the chili flavoring and ingredients a bit more.

I have had one of those crua insulated pods for several years now. Absolutely love it. Yes I often sleep in because you don’t get woken by the sun! I use it inside a larger tent so that I can stand up when I get out of it. So cozy. Expensive but well worth it.
