October 2021 I picked up a 1999 R1100S with 11,000 miles and ABS. Rebuilt the clutch master cylinder, replaced the touring plexiglass, updated all the lights to LED, new wires, adjusted the valves, new tires, and fluids. Sometimes I sit in the garage and just admire it.

They were right. My first bmw was an R1100s. Before this bike came out I thought BMW's were made for old bearded men. I must have liked it and the brand. I now have 10 BMW's including a lovely low mileage randy mamola boxer cup replica. Thanks for the video Chris.

About five years ago we purchased an R1100S used with 23,000 miles. I'm still splitting my ride time between this and a K75. I really love both of my BMWs.

Many years ago I bought a red 1100s, black engine, loved it. Sold it, moved onto Italian bikes for many years, 6 months ago I bought another red 1100s, black engine - love it! When I had my first 1100s the scene was probably +80% Japanese sportsbikes so mine was viewed as an ugly oddity and ignored. Fast forward to 2023, park mine up and it gets attention everywhere as a great looking classic!

I drove one for 2 days and I liked it very much. I had an accident with a k100. Had it rebuild. And later sold it. I rented a r1100s and was impressed. Stil want to buy one. So yes I am interested in r1100s bikes. Currently I am preparing my fathers k100 to get it driving again. Covid messed up my dad so it's a sort of paying respect to him and he will be pleased to see it back on the road again. Fuel pump and al fuel lines are messed up by ethanol fuel. Had another gas tank with good fuel pump and its running perfect. Now I use stabilizer in the fuel and only 98 octane. Just have to do a full change of liquids and oil and filters. Spline lube. And we well get it running again. Thanks for the good and affordable advice al these years.

Chris -- Hope you don't mind my posting ( below) an old video of my R1100s Boxer Cup Prep Bike ( after all I'm in Raymond NH) since I shot the vid I've run the mileage up to over 58,000 miles. I LOVE this maching. As a matter of fact weather permitting I'm taking it to MOntreal this weekend ( got tics to Formula One qualifying) This bike is just the perfect high speed cruiser on the highway. I recently bought a. 2010 Ducati 1198s. But there's no way I'll ever part with my boxer twin. You are so right -- just a wonderful motorcycle

Congrats, excellent video! By the way, R1100S is my present motorbike. I had 16 motorbikes along my life till I put my hands on a R1100S. Never gave this model too much attention till one day, when a friend invited me to take a little ride. That was it! The year was 2006 and two years later, I finally find a nice red R1100S. What a bike! Just love it from the very fist time I rode my "Ingrid"!

Chris,always enjoyed your video presentations on KZbin. My first bike was a BMW R90 followed up with an old 1985 K100( I think though I'm not quite sure about the year it's been a long time) in 2002 I purchased a brand new BMW R1100s and I loved that bike, but sadly I dumped it in an accident. However insurance was able to buy me a brand new one of the same year model and color which I rode hard for two more years and then traded in for a R1100s 2004 model with four spark plugs I still have that bike and I will never get rid of it!I will probably will it to somebody when my trips around the Sun are done. It would be great if you could post more videos with information and the history of this bike. They've helped me maintain this bike over the years and saved me lots of money as well as further appreciating on how good this bike really is. I've ridden bigger,faster motorcycles that belong to friends and even newer BMWs, but as I said earlier this is such a great bike. Thanks keep rocking brother!

I have a 1995 R1100RSABS down with 40,000 miles. A possible drive shaft spline problem?
@martingeraghty88162 жыл бұрын
I'd like to learn more, I have a 2000 R1100S non abs with the larger rear wheel, bigger suspension, no centre stand, includes the steering damper and some Carbon fiber bits. I have a problem where it suddenly dies when it gets hot. I had the HES rewired, changed fuel pump and internal hoses, filter etc. I'll be riding along with it running sweet as a peach and it just shuts down. Checked ignition wires and kickstand switch, ground to frame etc... Can't find the issue.
@chuckchuck35322 жыл бұрын
Exactly same problem here on 2001 R1100S. I would not be able to say though was it heat or something else, it was a sunny day but not really hot. Also did a repair on HES recently , and went for 200 miles after that seemingly OK, but while on a long ride after going 170 miles with no hitches the engine and electrics cut out while riding at full speed on the highway. Would not start at all after one minute , would start but stall again after 10 miinutes. Had to tow it to the nearest dealership as I was 150 miles away from home. Now it sits at dealership in Troy NY waiting for somebody to have a look. Reading about similar behavior on forums, side switch and ignition switch are mentioned as common culprit, apart from HES,

I was looking at buying a 2004 r1100s with 39000 miles till I Google issues with the bike. The one that went back 2000-04 with the tyranny imput shaft and clutch splines stripping out. So with 39k on the bike I backed away. Can you elaborate or tell me what you know?
@trundlebike2 жыл бұрын
He's got a video with his take on the spline issue. Can't find it but the problem comes from the six speed gearbox and riders putting the bike in sixth at around 70mph leaving the revs at around 4k. This, he says, causes wear due to the engine surging in some bikes. His advice is to ride it harder (go to sixth at 80mph) and use the clutch plate with extended splines. I put mine together with stock parts prior to the availability of the modified clutch so I'm trying really hard to go 80 whenever possible. Lots of info at the Pelican Parts R1100S/1200S forum.
@kenmoore71952 жыл бұрын
I think the clutch issue is more to do with not keeping constant pressure on the throttle and allowing the bike to for want of a better word surge which allows the clutch plate to rattle back and forth on the shaft splines which ultimately flogs the splines out and then the bike loses drive. I think I got that right! My licensed here in Oz can't stand 80 MPH so I will take my chances.
@henryhawk9782 жыл бұрын
@@trundlebike I had not heard of the extended splines on the clutch plate. But read where a owner replaced the input shaft and the new shaft was 10mm longer.
