Fantastic walkthrough! Much appreciated, I don't own the E82 or E88 coupe models but do own the E81 (3 door hatchback 2007-2011) and I can confirm the door assembly is identical which is the most time consuming replacement. The rear speakers for the E81 are either side of the parcel shelf when you open the boot, very accessible. This guide is just perfect for replacing the speakers which i definitely intend on doing, thankyou!

Thanks for a great video. I used it to retrieve Grandma's credit card which had accidentally been "posted" into the window slit while using a parking station payment terminal! And yes this video applies to an E87 hatchback, the only difference being the third screw is located behind the door release mechanism and not in the map pocket.

Hi! what sizeis the midrange speaker in the e81 2007 standard speaker system? And what is the mounting depth of said speaker and additional mounting clearance. I am looking into retrofitting some 6.5"s. Wish me luck...

OMG! Why can't this happen to me in my HOME state? Unfortunately, I live 3000 miles away in NYC. You could bet your last dollar I would have had NO problems coming on down for that install on my X1. By watching your videos and the young man doing them, it shows you give a damn about customers cars, it would have been a no brainer. I hope you do find a loaner X1 and get a kit together for them, BTW, a video for the forgotten rear speakers would also be a great thing to do. Thanks for your offer.

@bavsound thanks for your quick reply! Now I'm sure your set of speakers fits my car, I'm about to order them for my BMW. Still I'm wondering; will only replacing the speakers be enough to improve the sound quality that much? Won't I need another amp..? It's kind of tricky, there I'm not able to first try your speakers. On the other hand, I consider you as an expert on car audio systems and the sooner the terrible sound in my car is gone, the better! Kind regards from Holland, Reinier

@bavsound: I just figured out that the shipping costs to get your gear to Holland are very, very high. I'd love to place your speakers in my BMW, but are there any other possibilities for transporting them than the website offers..?

I have 1series e87 and driver side sound stopped working,only left an back work,at first i thougj it was some kind of eror and the balance went all left(it happened 1-2 time strange) but not this time,did anyone had this problem?

The speakers should fit the profile of all the newer vehicles, so we'd have the drivers but have not created an install video yet or created the exact speaker kit. If you happen to be in LA we are looking for a car for R&D. If you purchased a Stage I we'd provide a free installation in exchange for the opportunity to film the process! Your car would be a star!

@rainman25a Hi Reinier, I think you'll be amazed at how much better the new speakers sound. Very open, smooth, detailed sound. We plan on providing an amp upgrade in the future, but we have literally never had a customer feel like they need an amp upgrade after installing a Stage I! The speakers are by far the weakest link in the chain.

Tempted to go ahead with this but i sent them an e-mail and haven't had a reply. Let see if i get a response on here, i want to know what this system is classed as i have the same system. 4 speaker and 2 tweeters. Base or Standard? I know its not premium.

Not to sure about other 1 series, but for some reason, mine dosent have tweeters. How does that affect the installation?

+BAVSOUND The only issue is , the panel in which the tweeters go, dont have dots, its just a plastics panel.

Reassemble the door handle trim in reverse order - starting at the top clip. See my comment on part 2/2
