I'm an Indian student of class 11 and in our school we have an opportunity to make a project on anything we like, and after stumbling upon a video of Islamic design I decided to do a project on just that. I've researched a lot and I am really grateful for your videos which show an authentic way of making these designs unlike the modern techniques which you proved wrong so effortlessly...thank you!

wonderful video! I've utilized so many of the "western method" videos you describe and achieved decent results, but I noticed some of the same issues you point out. As long as I simply copied the pattern from the tutorial, it turned out fine, but when I attempted to use these patterns as a basis for different interpretations, the inequalities become quite apparent. I'm so glad you included the explanation and examples at the end of this video. Thank you so much!

I've always been fascinated with the beauty of places all over the globe with these geometric tiles and decided to explore the art of Islamic geometry. However it does seem quite intricate n complicated. But so love it. 😍Truly fascinated. I hope God grants you a long life to pass it on to others interested. God bless.

I did my research and i found that the mughal rulers had to draw one-fourth of the pattern alone and trace them to form the whole rosette because when they drew bigger full patterns, they would be proportional in small sizes but disproportional in larger ones.......therefore , when constructing a rosette to decorate palaces and madrassas , they had to draw only a part of the full rosette...the more you know. He said in the previous video that the western method is incorrect... notice that the western method draws the full rosette rather than drawing only a part of it ehereas he is drawing only a part of the rosette and reapeating it....this repeating method is used to draw bigger rosettes rather than the smaller ones

Sir, at 5:50 you open the compass "a little more than half the distance." but this seems to make a big difference in the final outcome. I experimented three times and it ruins the overall proportion. Can you explain this? What should that compass setting be? thank-you
@BawabatAlkhatAlarabi
@BawabatAlkhatAlarabi 7 жыл бұрын
Dear bluegrassbarry The setting of the compass should not have any effect on the operation. The aim is to divide the distance between the middle of the square and the corner of the square into two equal parts. Please check your compass, sometimes the compass slight opens when you are using it without you noticing. And you end up drawing different size arcs, and you think they are the same size. It is very important to draw the arcs with the same radius exactly. If you have a screw in your compass, tighten the screw to prevent the compass from changing. I hope that would solve your problem. Thank you

This man gets it right. He's using symmetry groups for the constructions. It's all about the planimetric 17 groups family. Arabs already dominated this strategy long time ago. The traditional approach IS the correct one but there are other alternatives for the algorithm. Incorrect methods? Well if the result is IDENTICAL then there are more than one way to generate it. If there are parametric differences in the generated drawing then there is a significant difference in the generative algorithm. The video illustrates the proof. However would be interesting how such ERROR is generated. Traditional methods or original generating techniques are the preference, in my opinion. They evade simplistic interpretations.

Hello, thank you very much for this very clear explanation. Would you be able to explain what is the westen way of drawing a pattern? When I look at westen construced patterns, they seem correct.
@BawabatAlkhatAlarabi
@BawabatAlkhatAlarabi Жыл бұрын
Yes, they might get some simple patterns correct. But when they try the complex patterns they could not do it correct. Some of the so called experts fail miserably, even the most basic patterns like Eric Broug. his books are full of errors.
@raymoore6277
@raymoore6277 6 жыл бұрын
This one seems to be the basic pattern for many creations. Questions, do you think the original artists were able to scale up and down their patterns, we are able to do it so easily, and are there the original workings from these creations still around that gives some insight into how they went about creating them?
@BawabatAlkhatAlarabi
@BawabatAlkhatAlarabi 6 жыл бұрын
It’s a very good question Ray Moore, yes this is a basic pattern in its family. And all complicated fourfold patterns like the patterns from Alhambra and historical sites in Morocco depend on getting this pattern correct. And yes the original artists defiantly were able to scale the pattern up and down, because in this method you start with the square and not by drawing circles or polygons in an open space. And the scaling the square up and down will scale the pattern itself. I recently created a group on facbook to teach this subject, you can join the group if you like by following this link. facebook.com/groups/zakhrafa.school/

Thank you for your reply, I have joined or favourited some of your face book groups, but have not yet investigated them. The different alternatives that you give to the base pattern here (11.14) must also arise out of geometric calculation, I tried creating them but my assumptions were wrong. And the resultant shapes did not conform. Do you discover the calculations, or are they already existent. موقع بوابة الخط العربي
