there was a non believing old woman who needed help carrying her items. A man came to help. She praised him for his help and during their walk she warned him about Muhammed, calling him a lier and a man who destroys families by poisoning the younger generation and the woman with the belief of one God. At the end she asked him what was is name. He answered "Muhammed" at that very moment she said her shahadah and became a muslim. This is a man who rarely sought justice through violent means. A man who forgave his enemies. When he enter the city of Mecca with his giant and strong army. He declared that there will be no blood spilt. He even gave protection to the members of the house of Abu Sufyan, where Hind lived. Hind was the woman who had Hamza killed. Hamza was one of Muhammad's most favorite uncles. He was one of the first really important and well respected men of Mecca to convert to Islam back in its early years.

I came to Madina (holy city for muslim beside Mecca) and saw a magnificent pattern of geometry inside the Mosque of Nabawi. It was 3 p.m and the roof was open automatically and warm sunlight hits every one and the wall which contains beautiful geometry pattern. That beauty still left me wandering.

It’s fascinating to know how they managed to achieve this level of geometric complexity at that time, and on massive scale. Therefore, I find the clip offensively simplistic. In Islamic art, these designs were a medium of meditation in the geometry of nature, which leads to the praise and show of gratitude for the creator, the original designer, Allah\God.

The reason why Muslim artists turned to geometry in expressing themselves is the need for keeping the faith monotheistic( in the Islamic sense that god cannot be contained in any form or shape and that he cannot be defined>> anything that is limited cannot be worshiped). Muslims also stopped drawing prominent persons in the religion so people would not turn into idealizing them and worshiping them. These patterns all have meanings though. Some say that certain patterns refer to the story of creation and even certain personalities. It's quite interesting

The Cute Kitty - The time in which this art was originally produced was when early Islam was actually one of the most scientifically progressive places on earth. But this was all thrown aside as fundamentalism was introduced, the main face of Islam these days unfortunately. Maybe if the people are reminded of their history, this could change.

I was in a team of student graphic designers during my study in Islamic high school. There was one school event where all the designs should be islamic-themed, and I tried do do five-fold tessellation (and I didn't know it was called tessellation too back then) And yes, I never expect it was hard to tessellate five-fold patterns so I went back to four-fold patterns lmao. However, later on the end of my study, I finally able to make five-fold one as basic background texture for my friend's self-handwritten Quran cover. I didn't make one for me because I never finished writing my copy of Quran by that time.

This was when Muslims lived in just societies, they got the real meaning of Islam, to worship god through building the earth and making it a better place, but now because of the dictatorships in most Islamic countries, all is there is people fighting for their very basic rights like having food and a safe place to sleep in. These regimes made people ignorant and angry and extreme. They forgot the higher goals of life. May this change very soon, and the whole planet lives in peace, love and respect. and we'll see more of this amazing art.

Last year I've visited Andalucia, and there I saw quite a lot of these patterns on many old buildings. They are truly amazing once you see them repeated hundreds or even thousand times on walls, domes etc. Beautiful.

I'm Muslim and whenever I visit my family in Tunisia or go to a Mosque I see those amazing patterns, I think to myself that those are really complicated, but I learned in this video that all you need is a compass and a ruler. And now I also know that this is a 1000-year-old tradition. Also, the word "Masada" means school in Arabic.

There are many views regarding realistic art in Islam, as a Muslim Artist I fall into this conversation a lot, my opinion (which you should never take as a religious Fatwah) is that Art makes the world a beautiful place and a religion as beautiful and peaceful as Islam probably wouldn't stop such a soul fulfilling thing. I've read some Muslim leaders and Sahabas left the art from other empires untouched and didn't damage it, indicating they're okay with it, while others argue that you shouldn't represent living creatures in any form, so I would repeat what I said about asking a well educated, respectful scholar (Sheikh) who'd help you with such a intellectual religious matter. I have been asking around a lot and many seem to think that it’s better to lean on the safe side and avoid human faces and try to shift to still life and oil paintings and calligraphy. So I might stick to that for now and wait until I get proper answer regarding faces and I’ll continue them if It’s allowed and I had this intuition to stop them like I didn’t feel like working on them suddnely since I started praying “don’t make me do anything that might make you angry and only help me do the tasks that involves your blessings and happiness” so inshallah I’ll find an answer soon :)
