I’m 65 and my dad’s lessons in orienteering, survival skills, etc have served me well. Despite going deep into wilderness areas, I’ve never been lost. However, watching videos and reading about the experiences of others who have been lost, had time slips or disappeared are always swirling about in my mind when outdoors. I have on several occasions lost time, especially in deep woods. Thank you for relating such stories, Bryan. I’m a believer in the unexplained. We can never be totally prepared in the wilderness.

You can be on a trail, but when going back, it looks completely different! So, it would be easy to veer off on a deer trail, which can even be similar in size. Just because you're in a group, doesn't mean anyone is lookin out for you. Scary.

Yes. Im a logical man and skeptical when people say they saw stuff but in the wilderness i firmly believe in forces not seen. I believe from my experiences there that there are where vortexes and gates to spiritual realms. Sounds crazy but i firmly believe it. I think we who venture far off the trail by ourselves relate to it
@BUBBLESPOGO3 жыл бұрын
@@navigator1372 Hi David I firmly believe that too. Why? Revelation 12:7-13 talks about the rebel angels being cast out of the heavenly realms and confined to the earth's realm until their judgment comes. Since they are spirit beings, they exist within a spirit realm here within the earth's vicinity. I believe they cannot function in our organic world without serious consequences to themselves. Their ability to materialize into human bodies and live in them were taken away when they were forced to return to the spirit realm from which they came at the the time of the Noachian Flood. These portals and gates, like the one at the Skinwalker Ranch, and those seen by persons deep in the woods and elsewhere, explain how they enter our organic world for a limited amount of time to deceive and torment God's creatures.

I recently went cross country skiing in an area I am quite familiar with. Since I was leaving a fresh trail I had no fear of being lost, as I could just follow my tracks to get out. The light was flat and cloudy, the sun was blocked out and it is in a timbered area with no real landmarks. I skied for about an hour, stopped, rested and had a snack. I was absolutely certain I was following a straight course. After another hour I looked around and recognized nothing, I was completely lost except for my trail. Decided to go another fifteen minutes to try and find something familiar and saw fresh tracks in the snow ahead. Upon getting to the tracks I realized they were mine. I had skied in a big circle. Even though I was not really lost, it was sobering for me, as I am skilled in the outdoors and can use a compass well, I had simply chosen not to so I could test myself. I followed my original tracks back, and I was ten minutes away from my truck.

We were there just after sunrise and approx 1.5 miles into the hike, we encountered that sound x 5. We didn’t see the animal that made those sounds but we turned around and left right away. The other couple heard it even though they were a ways behind us. They kept going. We think maybe it was a black bear either protecting her Cubs or her food. Once off the road and in the forest it quickly became impossible to keep our sense of direction. Visibility was around 100ft given the dense forest. The sky was overcast and it began to rain and daylight was fading. We had a compass for oreintation. We were hunting on the south slope of a long east-west ridge with the Hoh River to the south of us and the crest of the ridge to the north. Every so othen my dad would look at the compass. On time when he pulled it out and checked he just stood there for a long time with a scared look on his face. We knew the direction back to the car was downhill to the south, but the compass was telling us that if we went south we would be going uphill. It made absolutely no sense. Do we trust the compass or do we trust our knowledge of the terrain? I made a desparate plea to God that if He got us out of there safely, I would never go elk hunting again. We opted to follow the compass and got out safely. It's been more than 40 years since that day and I have never been elk hunting sense. That excursion into the woods demonstrated to me how easily and quickly someone can become disoriented even when experienced as was my dad.

@@jazamaraz8029 I know that ridge, it's between the Bogachiel and Hoh River. Beautiful area with good game but a foreboding maze. Thanks for sharing that!

That last story is spooky!! They should definitely contact David Paulides of the CanAm Missing Project or Missing 411. Wow, incredible experience. The lady camping with her husband gave me giggles. That line about "waking Bear Grylls" was a good one, haha. My heart goes out to the family of the missing father. Thanks for the content, have enjoyed your channel for quite some time now.

My husband and I used to go camping/backpacking way off trail in Washington state… up past Salmon Le Sac and way up logging roads with no one for miles and miles… it never once occurred to us to carry a gun - ( although we live in Texas now we are not gun people) and we don’t carry bear spray, maps or compass- I mean we were young and invincible…. I was honestly more scared of a creepy murderer lurking in the woods then I was about bears, wolves, mountain lions, etc … or even that we would have a serious injury. We camped out on the Ocean at Second Beach - on the other side of the Olympic mtns and in the Olympics- we actually had one experience where we are 99% certain we heard a bear woofing nearby. We’ve also been swimming in the Atlantic up in Nova Scotia and my husband saw a great white about 40 ft from him… now when we are there in the summers I use the OceanseTch Shark tracker to see if any are in the area…. We still camp in remote areas with our kids but I am definitely more cautious and pay attention to everything….

I was laughing out loud listening to the second story about listening to animal sounds outside your tent. I backpacked 8 miles into Mount Rainier in Washington State. When we set up our tent, after leaving the clearing it was in, we came upon 2 black bears eating berries. We were quiet and they left us alone, but at night, all night long I could hear animals (not small ones) walking outside the tent and breathing heavily right by the tent. Bears looking for food. I never slept a wink in 3 nights there. They did not bother us, but, they could have. Remains my only wilderness camping experience.

This was great! I'm a very new subscriber and really enjoy your channel. Praying for Duane Miles. Praying that giant cow wasn't harmed by whatever was growling outside the couples tent!! Now that was scary!! And why was a cow out in the woods? Unless there's a farm near. But usually farmers don't allow their cattle to just roam everywhere. And the 2nd story was weird. Thanks Brian. God bless 🙏🤗❤️

How creepy! I loved the second story! I wasn't expecting that. I find those type of stories unsettling. Something about one minute yr with friends then boom your alone and lost. I believe him. Maybe just a suggestion seeking hypnosis could help recover what happened that day. Either way awesome stories.

It's only been 13 days, and Mr. Myles' family member posted here...I wish people would keep that in mind when they comment. Unless you can predict the future, you can't know whether he will be found (soon) or not. An elderly man left the hiking trail (it said he likes to explore off-trail) and got lost and/or injured. Not knowing the exact route he took complicates the search; there's nothing mysterious about this.

The second story sounds like an encounter with little people. Like the ones that the Cherokee talk about.. They can really confuse you in the forest and they can move landmarks. If you survive the encounter and find your way, it is said they will be impressed and never put you through the ordeal again. They can even become allies, when treated with respect. You can leave them gifts like Bread, Tobacco, Whiskey, and Candy. Just don't over do it. They can get hooked on those things and become over demanding. It's rare for adults to see them, but sometimes at night you can here their drums and singing.

Never saw any, but have left many gifts. It is always a good idea especially when out in the wilderness.
@thegreencat99473 жыл бұрын
I have seen them.....There is a tree where you leave gifts before you enter....I lived in a trailer there....I would see them out my back door. I felt I was being watched. They helped me when I was being attacked by my very bad husband. I have since moved.

For us...people from The Netherlands it is hard to comprehend how immense these US national forests and parks are. Here in dutchland it is close to impossible to perish because of getting lost while hiking. The USA has forests as big as our entire country..

The flaming hell I would go and do something like that again after hearing that bear just inches from the tent wall!! I don't know how you guys got the guts to come out of the tent and cross the empty ground to get to the car. I loved camping in my younger days; my father was British and had met my mother here in Canada while he was training RCAF pilots during WWII. He came back after the War and married her and spent the rest of his life here. He was fascinated by the mountains and we camped every summer, something I continued with my own children and they are now doing it with their children. But we always camped in designated campgrounds where there were plenty of other campers. We did a lot of hiking but again there were lots of hikers on those trails. I'm not into the solo remote camping mindset. I don't know what or who is our there living in the backwoods but I absolutely do not believe we are the only life forms on earth. We have already stolen SO much territory from wild animals, we can't push much further before tragic meetings between animals and humans become more frequent.

A lone cow or bull walking sounds a LOT like a human. They can also make a variety of noises that you wouldn’t necessarily associate with cattle if you are not around them a lot.

Wow awesome..... something like that happened to my husband and myself...we got very frightened at the fact that we ended up in a second 3 miles away from the highway we just began to drive out on towards the hills...we suddenly looked at each other saying where are we????...then we said how did we end up here!!!!.....my husband was a highway patrol and would never be miss directed especially on a highway....there was no explanation.

Why are intelligent men & women still going on solo hikes without Beacons so they can be found if lost or hurt? Seriously ...how many solo hikers need to be lost & never found before hikers will stop hiking alone.

I don’t think you understand what drives solo hikers. It’s that feeling of independence and self reliance that is so alluring. I spent last week camping alone with my horse and dog. We do it regularly and it’s amazingly cathartic.

It's hard to find people to hike with us. If I wait to have somebody hike with me, I'll be waiting forever. Either people work or they don't want to get up early. Even walking groups don't hike during the week, only weekends. So, it's either stay at home, watching TV or getting out into the woods and get fresh air. I do like being in the woods alone, it's so peaceful and the smells of autumn are so fantastic. The trees are so colorful and beautiful, I think people go missing because they don't pay attention to where they are and go off trail. If you are not out of there before it gets dark, it is hard to see which way to go, I like hiking mornings because I know I'm off the trail before dark..

I live in the Pacific Northwest, about 40 miles away, been in the Olympics lots of times, last was about 7 months ago. It's not an area to go alone, females only in groups, the trees are huge, brush thick, and I've seen bear, cougars, and wolves. But the early explorers and settlers said the Native Indians called the forests Green Hell and refused to spend any long time in it. Partly because of the storms that would blow trees, huge branches, etc down on them. And then there was Big Foot, the Indians called them the Stick Indians, because they were tall and slim. Of course the two legged wolves were the scariest (men).

That story with the lady who called her snoring husband « Bear Grylls » was hysterical. Their next campout should either be at a developed campground, or with a dang trailer. I freaked out a bit once while camping alone in cougar country, and I said, the hell with it, and made my way back to the car and slept inside it.
@eleanorcramer79863 жыл бұрын
Cougars are silent, stealth predators. Fear factor rivals snakes in trees and ponds.
