There was a tornado in Dallas where my sister used to live, and she went to bed upstairs in her bed with her dog that night. In the middle of the night, her dog started freaking out and was trying to drag her downstairs (it was a 100 lb Labrador). So my sister followed the dog downstairs and went into the closet because the weather was so bad. Ten minutes later, the neighbor’s roof was blown off and went thru the upstairs window and landed in my sister’s bed. She’d have died if she’d stayed in that bed. Shelby, her rescue dog, had saved her life.

PLEASE get a Personal Locator Beacon. They're not expensive. And, make sure you have a couple of lighters, a ziploc with cotton balls dipped on Vaseline (fire starter), layers of clothing, a fleece hat and gloves, bear spray, water, granola bars, and a water filter straw. I also keep a couple of heavy duty, lawn and leaf bags in my pack. (to sit on wet ground, for a rain poncho or sun canopy, to use as a shelter or windbreaker, or as a layer for keeping warm, or even wrapping up a broken bone). I also carry a travel size, first aid kit (plus an ace bandage, a couple rolls if gauze, and small size roll of duct tape), and a good sidearm for whatever/whomever might view us as potential prey. (Better safe than sorry!) To make it easy, I keep a dedicated backpack, ready to go, in the trunk of my Jeep, along with a case of water, and a couple boxes of granola bars and trail mix. That way, I don't have to remember to take it. I just refresh the water and food when we get to the trailhead, and go. My pack is relatively light, other than the water, but that gets lighter as the day goes on. I keep the empties for recycling, and when I come across a spring or fresh water, I fill up a bottle or two, just in case. (I can use my filter straw, if it becomes necessary to drink them.) There are just too many stories of people getting injured or lost and dying from exposure, hypothermia or dehydration. And, we can't be in denial that even a day hike can turn deadly, if you become lost, get chased off trail by a predator, trip and break an ankle, or take a bad fall. A park ranger told me that, even with a PLB, it could take rescuers 24-48 hrs. to get to you (depending on your location, the weather, and the availability of personnel, i.e. if there are multiple rescues), so you better be prepared to spend a cold night or two. Also, really try to hike with a friend, or join a local sports (hiking) group to go with. Safe Hiking! ❤

I do not believe in religion. When I was sent to Iraq on a deployment (US Mil), I found a St. Michael's copper pendant shining remarkably-bright buried, partially, in the dirt by one of our checkpoints. It shouldn't have gleamed like that... It felt right to keep it in my left breast pocket, at all times. I had some wild thing happen afterwards.... running over pressure-plate IED's but not blowing up, having a round cut the pocket off my flight suit, and maaaany more things that just didn't make sense. I still keep it with me to this day (found in '07).

According to people who have had n.d.e.( near death experiences) we all may have 2, 3 or more other spirit beings watching over us.( we are spirit beings in a human body). They may have intervened in that situation or your sisters spiritual self may have sensed the danger. If you watch a few videos about n.d.e. You may learn about what this life really is. Those n.d.e. Testimonies have totally changed my belief. I just listened to a interview of Nikolai Tesla ( the brilliant inventor)It just blew my mind about what he talks about, also I think he stated that he had I think 10 angels with him all the time.

I do believe in miracles. One of the many experiences happened during my hike of the PCT in 2017, camping for the night at Idlywild camp site. Another female PCT hiker showed up and set her bivvy maybe few yards from my tent. I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. Hearing me, she got up too and followed behind me. I apologized to her for waking her up with all the shuffling when I was trying to get out of the tent. As we walked off to the bathroom together, we heard a very oud thud. It was dark and foogy and we couldnt see much although we guessed it was probably a tree or big branch had fallen to the ground. We waited for a while but there was just silence so we went ahead to the bathroom. Upon returning, we found a big huge branch laying right across her bivvy. We were both shocked, and humbled at the same time. It could have been a very different outcome had she not gotten up and gone to the bathroom that night. Anyway we became good friends after that and remain friends to this day.

I appreciate that you don't sensationalized. these accounts. You are very respectful to the families, you're factual in gathering as much information and that the details are correct, to the best of your abilities. I will say that I've been one of those hikers in many years past, who have chose to hike alone. To this day, I realize just how foolish I was to do so. I was over confident and certainly inexperienced to hike alone. I am truly grateful I was not hurt or died. It could have easily happen to me. I am grateful that nothing did. Great channel and presentation style. This video in particular brings back a vivid memory. Something similar happened to me as a teen. Every morning on my walk to school, I would take a shortcut through a back alley, across a small field and onto the right sidewalk at the outside corner of a near 90 degree bend in the road. Usually, I would continue to walk along the right sidewalk for a few blocks then cross as there was no sidewalk on the other side of the street at the bend. However, on this day something in my head (in a distinctly feminine voice) told me to cross to the inside corner of the 90 degree bend. I crossed and got about 20ft from the comer when a car came flying around the corner, slammed on its brakes and jumped the curb on the other side, exactly where I would have been walking. Shaken, I stood for a moment then crossed the street to check on the vehicle that was now on someone's lawn with a damaged front wheel and two flat tires. A young woman exited the car and was clearly in distress of some kind. I helped her change her tires and was late to school. I have told this story to my siblings and my children but to them it is just a story but to me it is something more.

I grew up just an hour and a half from Yosimite and Sequoia, hiking many trails in both these parks from 1970-1998. Novices should never hike these areas alone and actually I don't recommend anyone hiking them alone. All it takes is one twisted ankle or fall with a broken bone and you are done for if no one knows where you are. They are vast wildernesses, that being said, I wonder how many "lost" cases were intentional, especially for those in advanced years who maybe want to "go" in the places they loved spending so much time in througout their lives or they might have been depressed an decided to do it this way. I do think in most cases the people just get lost in the enormous outdoors and in a few cases, foul play happens, especially with lone female hikers. I was hiking Sawtooth one time with a friend and we crossed paths with a girl in her early 20s hiking alone in the high country and wearing only Teva sandals! Another time at Big Arroyo it was about 930 pm and we (3 of us) were around our campfire when this guy in his late twenties and a little overweight came up huffing and puffing into our site as it was right next to the trail. We offered him some coco and snacks and he stayed for about 10 minutes talking to us but he was ill prepared in my opinion. He had a plain rucksack that was very heavy (just a thick cotton bag with straps) and had only brought a huge bag of rice for food and had the cheapest, falling apart boots on (like Kmart). He asked us where exactly he was. We told him and after awhile he thanked us, put on his pack, and trudged off into the darkness (I think he had a flashlight). My point is people come totally unprepared for these areas and it's a wonder more don't go missing.

You were hiking in DESOLATION WILDERNESS, some really tuff terrain, I’ve been backpacking out there. Lived in SOUTH LAKE TAHOE for 13 years.

It wasn't your time and it shows miracles do happen!!!!! The beautiful open spaces are to be explored but with great care and caution what starts with excitement can end in tragedy no matter how experienced a hiker you are things can turn bad very quickly I understand people wanting to go on these hikes on their own but strength in numbers, though I know from your content even in numbers people go missing it's very sad for family&friends of those never found its a life of wondering. You to Bryan take care on your hikes and as you say the proper equipment can make all the difference.

In groups it often is 'point of separation." In other words one will get separated either sick, tired, whatever. Then group goes forward, later comes back to find person missing. Heck sometimes it is just one leaving to go the bathroom in bush.

@@changeintheair9648 Thank you for info,so sad that someone branching of from a group can go missing in seconds/minutes does make you wonder how that can happen

Wow, after hearing your experience of almost detouring from the trail there is no doubt that you were protected my friend, you are a good soul

Don't hike alone! Totally learned that lesson hiking over Momo Pass. Slipped & fell. Luckily I was not hurt too bad & made it out. At the time, I remember thinking I'm out here alone, nobody knows where I am and if I was to fall I would never be found. I saw no one throughout the whole hike. The area is very isolated, scree on the trails, very steep. I lived in Yosemite area for over 30 years and getting lost is very easy if you lose the trail, which is easy to do, and you have a poor since of direction. That was the last time I ever hiked alone. Keep in mind, Tenaya cursed the trails from the valley to the East side. Do not disregard the Native American lore.

I thank God for divine intervention concerning you and your bothers safe keeping during the storm and tree incident! I too am a walking miracle and believer in God's divine protection and guidance. Thanks for keeping these cases to light and hope for closures for their loved ones!

God stayed the hand of danger for me also. I know the amazing sensation of intervention. I heard the voice. This happened in the woods by the way. Later I asked God why he saved me.....what am I here for...what do you want me to do?...He said " oh Arlene, all I want you to do is be yourself. " That I can do.,! Love to you.

Thank you Bryan for recapping all these disappearances at Yosemite. It’s a beautiful and mysterious park and I’d love to hike it one day (not alone of course!) . Before I saw how crazy climbing up Half Dome-I wanted to scale it too. I’ve tempered my expectations. Your cabin story is incredible! Thank you 🙏🏼 for sharing your cabin story. Definitely wasn’t your time-divine intervention 😇

I agree with your philosophy, Bryan, and on how things can quickly go wrong even for the experienced. There are explanations for the missing but some remain a mystery for the lost. So important to minimize risks. I hope I can get one more rustic New England Christmas in. Watching you from my tent in lush desert cactus forest with coyotes occasionally yipping.
