“Bay Area Now 9” artist Arleene Correa Valencia creates paintings, textiles, drawings, and installations that reflect on patterns of migration and family separation. Her work piercingly takes up the pain and physical and psychological losses associated with the immigrant experience in the United States.
In this video, she shares the impact of visiting a decommissioned US Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center, and how it led to her work on view in the exhibition.
